I decided to dedicate my weekend to server maintenance and documentation.
Yesterday, I managed to install Immich using Quadlets, following the instructions on this very insightful repository, then I tried to migrate a Nextcloud installation from YunoHost to my new homelab. I started a #tmux session so that @sirodoht could kindly join to help me. We tinkered for two hours, but there was too much to do 🤯
Today, I spent the whole day writing documentation for these and many other things I learned/did in the past couple of months, since I am terrible at taking notes of the technical experiments I do.
I am exhausted, but also quite discouraged. The more I write, the more I feel there is to write. I really think I don’t have the time and the energy, but when it’s done it’s very fulfilling, and it’s very useful to have a lot of references in the future.
I will edit this post once what I wrote gets published on tommi.space.

You might have noticed that I have spend some time in my Quadlets Repo, taking care of some Grafana stuff.
Took me a bit to understand it but I’m quite happy with the result.
Check it out if you’d like to deploy your Grafana instance with a few extras in your homelab!

Out of boredom, I thought why not give the Zammad Quadlets another try.
Originally, I planned to work on them next month but I just couldn’t resist. And would you look at that, adding two more variables to the nginx container fixed the problem.
Now the Quadlets are working like a charm, meaning I need a new project for next month.
The wiki will probably be finished by the end of this week.
Check them out and give them a try by cloning my codeberg repo!

New Blog post out now!
I'm talking a bit about my progess of this months project and about the new one for April.
5 Minute read time, nothing big but I think I covered the most important points.
Check it out and let me hear what you think about it!

March is halfway done and I’m already starting to work on next months project.
Some of you may know the ticket system Zammad.
I’m working on Podman Quadlet files for it.I’ve already got quite far, only one DNS Issue left to be resolved.
It’s already up on Codeberg in its own Repo so you might want to take a look at it yourself.
I’m now gonna continue working on the Ansible Playbook for Arcg Linux post-installation.
Cheers 🍾

Jo he començat a fer servir els #Quadlets al meu servidor amb la integració de #Systemd i em sembla una completa passada! 🔥 Adeu a les configuracions complicades per gestionar contenidors. 🚀

In recent times my Raspberry Pi server with #MicroOS has been behaving weirdly.
My server sometimes goes down and it seems it's because of an automated system restart according to the logs (when I have transactional-update disabled, so that shouldn't be happening).
When that happens, it takes a bit for me to ssh to it. It seems like my #podman #quadlets are not obeying #systemd enable-linger and starting on boot with
WantedBy=default.target, because they only start after I ssh to it. -
This is a goldmine of #podman #networking tricks:
Example: Use socket units with `ReusePort=true` for your container units to let multiple containers share one port and let the kernel do the load-balancing via SO_REUSEPORT
-
This has been what's it's all been for...
Bots raising PRs when a container is updated. I have the ability to roll back these back if something goes wrong and the same is true of OS updates.
-
I think I've come to the end of the road with bootc.
I've spent a good few months building up my #HomeLab with rootless #Podman and #Quadlets but getting a self hosted CI/CD pipeline to update the machine has been so painful, and now I've got everything "working" I'm finding issues like the one linked below.
I think I'm going to have to join the #NixOS band wagon and start over.
I know I can do podman or docker in Nix, but I'll want to do it fully Nix I think.
-
I find myself using quadlets more and more often, but the networking threw me for a loop when I first moved over from docker-compose.
Here's a quick post about getting your quadlets onto the same networks:

Dear all,
for playing around with the Ghost CMS / blog system I put together yet another vagrant-libvirt setup using Ansible and Podman Quadlets
https://codeberg.org/johanneskastl/ghost_podman_vagrant_libvirt_ansible
https://github.com/johanneskastl/ghost_podman_vagrant_libvirt_ansibleHave a lot of fun.

New post is up, this time on #opensource #networkmonitoring with #libreNMS. More goodness with @Podman_io #quadlets, check it out!

Aaaaand another one:
I played around with @Tronde's #OpenCloud #Ansible collection.
Easy to use, feature-rich and very nice in general. Get up and running with a OpenCloud container via Podman in a matter of minutes.
Here is a vagrant-libvirt setup using that Ansible collection:
https://codeberg.org/johanneskastl/opencloud_tronde_vagrant_libvirt_ansible
https://github.com/johanneskastl/opencloud_tronde_vagrant_libvirt_ansible(Actually, it is using a fork that contains some fixes, links to the pull requests are in the README).
Have a lot of fun!
