Just discovered #Adebar (https://codeberg.org/izzy/Adebar), a nice set of scripts for #Android app #backup and restores.

I spent the evening upgrading my phone from #LineageOS 20 to 22.2 (the latest supported by my #s10e This needed a data wipe, so I backed up my relevant files and settings.

I had some script snippets from before, but Adebar made this more convenient by backing up apk's, making adb backups (for what it's worth...) and making app backup tarballs with root (which worked for most apps).

This past weekend, I upgraded at #SaskTel from a #Samsung #s10e to a #Google #Pixel9. Here are the #Fdroid apps I have installed so far:

Hmm, the #SamsumgS23 and the new #SamsumgS24 aren't as big as I thought they'd be.

But I've eagerly moved my #S10e away from Samsung's look & feel, and had bad experiences with actually getting OTA updates.

I was today years old when I realised that #Samsung #Bixby Vision isn't actually half-bad. Has an #accessibility mode which has a colour identifier, text recognition, scene describer and object finder. #Galaxy #S10e

Dare I swap from Samsung to iPhone ? #Samsung no longer supports my #s10e phone after only 4 years! #updates

@makergeek Is there someone out there who sells an *intelligent* battery pack that fits nicely as a case around an existing smartphone? One that charges with induction and so the phone just holds 20 hours for sure sure and charges simply again with one plug only plugged in and does not wear out the battery thereby. I have one for my Samsung #S10e but it sucks: it does not really work and blocks the camera and then one has to charge 2 separate things and it gets hot.

Beggars can't be choosers when you can't afford more than about €200 for a new phone, but I'm not happy with how photos look on the #Samsung #s10e I just bought compared with on my dying #HuaweiP9.

Sharper, yes. But what glaring colours (and I already turned off HDR).

I am in the process of upgrading from a #Samsung #s10e to a #Google #Pixel #P7Pro and ..I don't like it, but there really is no good small phones in Canada anymore, and with the Black Friday deals its silly to go for something else too.

Any other #LineageOS users noticed #overheating? I have a #Samsung #S10e and I'm getting overheating middle of the night when phone is on charge. I suspect it's some #Seedvault backups process going haywire in the background because I keep noticing a Seedvault notification progress bar endlessly cycling. But I kill the process and the phone doesn't cool down. Bit lost for ideas...

This weekend I have installed #LineageOS (with #microG) on a #Samsung Galaxy #S10e for my SO. It is insane how much longer the battery lasts compared to Samsungs stock ROM (#OneUI 3.1). 🤯 Even after a factory reset you could basically watch the battery drain while doing nothing else. Well, now I have got an idea why the previous owner sold this device. 🙈

With a €/$500 budget, what kind of phone would you recommend to me? I am accustomed to Android, but, not brand loyal. I do want a lot of storage for podcasts, offline maps and other. #CustomROM support would also be nice, but not limited to Android (Sailfish OS/UBports etc.). I'm currently eyeing the #Samsung #S10e but it lacks custom ROM support AFAIK. #Fairphone 3 for it's repairability is also on the list. So if anyone has suggested, please do #AskFedi #DTA #DareToAsk
