xfwm4-gl is a compositor forked from Xfce xfwm4, adding support for OpenGL compositing.

This fork is shipping with #PorteuX a Linux distro based on Slackware.

I'd like to point out that this article is inaccurate as far as official #Xfce development goes.

The merge mentioned in this article is for an unsupported fork of #xfwm4

At this point, there are no plans to take these commits and merge them into the xfwm4 repository at https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfwm4

As far as I can tell, this was kinda sorta retracted/corrected in the comments.

@Anarcat The #wayland protocol devs should step up and thank #sway developers, who did not need to do the extra work to create wlroots wayland library, which has largely saved the entire wayland ecosystem and allowed it to have a chance. @xfce for example in 4.19 I believe is using wlroots in #xfwm4 if I'm not mistaken. But it still leaves 6 primary compositor libraries to deal with, plus any number of minor ones.

Hmph, #xfwm4's microcurve theme seems to have disappeared on ubuntu 19.04's package set; it looks like fedora 30 still has the xfwm4-themes package from 4.10 which is why it's still got it. I do like microcurve, because well, it's micro and it's curvey.
