Wow, the fact that you can't move this 'Maxell' walkman when playing music kinda defeats the object, no?

🎉 In 1985, #Maxell thought life-size #robots devouring #floppy #disks was a killer ad idea. 🤖💾 Fast-forward to now, and it's just a relic of bad #tech marketing—imagine thinking robots are the future when your floppies can't even hold a single cat meme. 🙄

@thomasfuchs One day the Compact Floppy Disks / CF-2 will rise again. Mark my words! And as an adapter, hell, you could fit a CF card in there.

(I bought one of these drives and used it as D2 on a used Apple IIe I grabbed from the local newspaper classifieds back in 1987 or so -- only ever had four blank disks, so it didn't get a lot of use. Was novel, though, especially here in the states.)

UPDATE: Oh, I wrote a blog post about this a few years back:

MAXELL XLII

I had several tapes like this in the late 1980's all because wanted a great sound from CDs.
I really loved those tapes.

Picked up some #floppyDisks at a #garageSale for a buck!

I also bought a floppy drive for my trusty Dell #D630 laptop's module bay. I'll be taking class notes on these... or at least backing my notes up to them so the drive doesn't make too much noise during class when I save.

So... which of these might be unreliable? Sony, #Fujifilm , TDK, #Maxell ?
The 2nd one in my hand doesn't have any brand labeling... gonna save that for unimportant stuff.

Maxell MXCP-P100S is another modern portable cassette player, this time with a speaker

Last month Maxell introduced a new portable cassette player for the Japanese market that combines retro features (it’s… a portable tape cassette player) with modern touches (like a rechargeable battery, USB-C port, and Bluetooth audio support).

Now the company has added another model to the lineup. The new Maxell MXCP-P100S has all the features of the previously-announced MXCP-P100, plus […]

Une cassette neuve encore emballée, toujours bon à choper pour quelques centimes en vide-grenier.

Je me demande de quelle année celle--ci date, rien sur le packaging à ce propos, mais c'est du très commun.

Maxell MXCP-P100 is a portable cassette player with modern features like Bluetooth and USB-C

The Maxell MXCP-P100 is a portable music player that mixes old-school and modern features. Like any good modern device, it has a built-in rechargeable battery and a USB Type-C port for charging. And it has both a headphone jack and support for Bluetooth 5.4, allowing you to use wired or wireless headphones or speakers.

But this isn’t an MP3 player. It’s a portable cassette player. The […]

On the day the #Maxell blank #cassettes arrived I tried to see if if the new-to-me #Pioneer CT-300 #cassette player from the #80s still records fine.
It's going to need some work. The seller sadly somewhat "oversold" its working condition. Fortunately it's fairly easy to find replacement belts, I just need to wait a bit.
I like how this photo came out though 😀

❝The blown-away effect conveyed the power of the music in an exaggerated but effective way, purporting to show that #Maxell tapes could deliver an immersive listening experience unlike any other — whether it be the first time, or the hundredth time.❞ https://www.analogplanet.com/content/tale-tape-spotlight-maxell-origin-blown-away-guy-and-comeback-cassettes

Trying to fix a Koonlung K1S, a probably long-term project. [plus downloads]
The Koonlung K1S is a very nice dashcam, with GPS, emergency button and HD recording and everything is made quite small. The HD video has a bit of a low bit rate, but it’s still not bad. That said, it became a piece of rubbish. No matter what kind of SD card is inserted, the software locks up…

In my room circa 1985 — ninth grade. This image tells a story. On the floor: yellow swim team t-shirt to the right of topsiders with Walkman headphones, a #Maxell cassette and the Under a Blood Red Sky album all within reach.

My component stereo system is center stage — #JVC speakers, #Technics turntable, #Akai receiver, #Pioneer tape deck — paid for by lawn mowing. And in the corner against the wall, my science project — designing and building a two-way speaker with a crossover network.

I am super excited to load it up, downloaded compatible restore disc images from #Internet Archive. Unfortunately, some old blank #Verbatim discs I have are not recognized in #Finder in #macOS Monterrey. I was able to use a #Maxell blank disc I have to burn disc 1, but need disc 2 to finish up the restore.

Had a Sony MiniDisc player MZ R-55 in the late 1990's, and now that's what I still have from that time.
Hoping to have another MiniDisc player again in year 2023.

Zijn hier nog mensen die ik blij kan maken met wat ongebruikte Maxell cassettebandjes (en een Sony DAT tape)?
Ik heb ergens ook nog wel een potlood liggen dat je erbij kunt krijgen 😉

We used to go to the record store in a small group.

Each buy our own vinyl, and pool some money for a big box of #Maxell tapes

First gen copies for all our friends!

Needed them for our in dash decks, and our Walktheys.

Adoro questa serie di pubblicità di #Maxell ❤️

Maxell-e-brate (1988) was a mix tape of holiday music released by Maxell as a promotional product for the holiday season. Its cover image was a new version of Maxell's famous "Blown Away Guy" advert wherein Santa Claus sits in a chair and has his hat blown back back the sound of a tape. Copies are still available on eBay and Discogs.

a rare #selfie & #Maxell brand rep from ~6 months ago.
still need to sort out something interesting to do with that #cassette tape set for a release.
anyway i can’t remember if i did a proper #introduction or not but i make music (#IDM #ambient #electronic etc) & listen to music & like taking mediocre photos of the sky & trees & such.
