The recent revival of audio cassettes has me thinking about the music formats I've lived through and why they might inspire some nostalgia for folks who didn't live through the same eras. https://jallbarret.writeas.com/when-my-memories-become-someone-elses-nostalgia

Iโm not entirely sure what started it, but a little while back I decided to start collecting all the Shamen albums on tape (Boss Drum was the last album I bought on tape before moving up to CDs), which soon ended up including the singles as well. I stopped after a while but I recently started again, picking up another couple. Iโve only got two more left to get now (Iโm only going for the UK releases), if I can get the original Pro>gen single and the Hempton Manor album, thatโll be the lot I think!

I listened to the World's Most Dangerous City during yesterday and today's morning poodle walks. It was nice.
(Potato quality photo as I had taken it with my potato quality phone camera. Adds a bit to the authenticity, I suppose? ๐ )

An exciting #music comparison, even if it naturally has weaknesses. The choice of devices is debatable and we listen to it on YT. What was interesting: I differ with his findings: For me(!) #Vinyl sounded the worst - too dull. And #audiocassette holds up pretty well. I even prefer it even over vinyl

On the day the #Maxell blank #cassettes arrived I tried to see if if the new-to-me #Pioneer CT-300 #cassette player from the #80s still records fine.
It's going to need some work. The seller sadly somewhat "oversold" its working condition. Fortunately it's fairly easy to find replacement belts, I just need to wait a bit.
I like how this photo came out though ๐

Taking the #physicalmedia to extremes. Just dug this bad boy out. It's 30 years old & works perfectly (except for AM radio). Lost my #tarot card reading cassette though. Had not listened to it... Hopefully hidden whilst on the sherbets & not binned! Time now to make some tapes... Thoughts & feelings etc. No 13 Reasons Why shit though! #K7 #cassette #audiocassette

#Audiocassette tapes first appeared on the market in the early nineteen-sixties, but it would take about a decade before they came to dominate it. And when they did, theyโd changed the lives of many a music-lover by having made it possible not just to listen to their albums of choice on the go, but also to collect and trade their own custom-assembled listening experiences

Went down a bit of a rabbit hole today, checking out vintage Walkmans.
I won a baseball hitting competition back in 1985ish as a kid, and the first prize was a Sony Walkman WM-F10 model, which was at the time (and I think to this day) the smallest cassette tape audio player ever made.
Sadly, someone stole it from me a few years later.
Saw a video on a restore of the WM-10, the radio-less version of this machine, so dived a bit into ebay etc.
HOLY COW. WM-10s, WM-F10s, WM-150s, broken "for parts" are selling for $300, $400, or more. One pristine one with new belts etc sold recently for $750!!!
What's weird is, this isn't audiophile stuff. The WM-10 was horrible for audio. The WM-150, as I recall (my girlfriend had one) was really good for audio on the other hand. Those in working condition sell over $500 today.

This is, AFAIK, my oldest piece of software and dates from 1985. I used to play these games on my Atari 130 XE. It contains the following games:
* Jet Boot Jack
* Airstrike II
* Batty Builders
* Breath of the Dragon (the game was released only in this compilation)
