Der Film war nur noch heute abrufbar, aber er klang vielversprechend und so schaute ich ihn mir an, immerhin ein paar bekannte Gesichter und manchmal mag ich den Charme von alten Detektivserien- und -filmen.
Die Stimmung des Filmes hat etwas für sich, auch der Charme des Genres ist gut umgesetzt, aber die Dialoge sind... irgendwie schräg, manchmal so aufgesetzt direkt und dann gleichzeitig viel zu überzogen, wenn es darum geht so gut wie alle Fragen nicht direkt zu beantworten. Als würde man nicht einem Gespräch zwischen zwei realen Menschen lauschen, sondern als hätte man die klischeehaftesten Dialoge des Genres einfach zusammen geworfen.
Wieso sämtliche Frauen in dem Film so offenherzig sind und direkt sexuelle Anspielungen machen, erschließt sich mir so gar nicht und fand ich so bescheuert, dass es einer der Hauptgründe ist, wieso ich den Film kein zweites mal ansehen möchte.
Es ist wirklich schade, die Schauspieler, das Setting, die Atmosphäre, die Musik würden einen wirklich gut unterhalten, wären eben nicht ein paar Punkte, die es einem schwer machen den Film durchzuhalten.
Ich blieb aber dabei, weil ich wissen wollte, was passieren wird.
Die letzte halbe Stunde hat dann völlig unlogische eigenartige Actionsequenzen, erinnerte mich ein paar Sekunden an einen schlechten Pulp Fiktion Verschnitt, völlig unpassend zum bisherigen Film und die Dialoge werden nicht besser, von dem unlogischen Verhalten der Charaktere fange ich erst gar nicht an.
Schade, sämtliche Schauspieler*innen fand ich symphatisch, aber kein Film der mich überzeugen konnte.

On the telly: it’s got Bogey, it’s got Bacall and William Faulkner co-wrote the screenplay. I tend to love this kinda stuff.

Just watched "Marlowe", a neo-noir with a great director and a perfect cast but nobody talks about it.
Sadly for a reason: it is quite forgettable.

OK, so that was very good.
Not perfect. Marlowe's relationship with the cops was a bit too cordial. And teaming up with another character in the third act was very un-Marlowe.
But I suspect Jordan made that choice because so much of the exposition in the books comes from Marlowe's internal voice. By eschewing a voiceover he had to give #Marlowe people to talk over the case with (though I guess Anne Riordan in Farewell, My Lovely means it's not entirely unprecedented).
Anyway, a fine #film.

About halfway through Neil Jordan's MARLOWE and very pleasantly surprised.
I like Jordan, I like the cast, I adore Chandler, and Philip Marlowe may be my favourite fictional character.
Which leaves a lot of room for disappointment, so when the reviews were lukewarm I feared the worst.
But, and I say this as someone who has spent a lot of time reading & rereading the books, this film captures Marlowe. Bravo!
Ah there's the ping for my popcorn (such a cliché). Back to the film.

Film du jour : #Marlowe.
Exercice de style consistant à réaliser un film noir "comme à l'époque" (mais en couleurs). Avec une petite couche postmoderne en plus, dont on se serait honnêtement passé tant ça tombe comme un cheveu sur le Jack Daniel's.
À part ça intrigue classique, quelques dialogues bien sentis, montage parfois un peu bizarre. Rien de foncièrement mauvais mais rien de foncièrement bon non plus, il manque une étincelle... Ça se regarde mais ça n'apporte strictement rien au genre. -
