  1. Happy #LetterboxdFriday ! My #LastFourWatched for this week:

    Comes a Horseman (1978) - 4/5, a conventional story but Fonda/Caan/Robards are brilliant

The Grifters (1990) - 3.5/5, everyone is evil

    To the Wonder (2018) - 2.5/5, I wonder what I just watched

Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) - 4.5/5, one of Allen's best

    Happy viewing!

The Kingdom (2024) - Excellent taut drama about the relationship between a Sardinian mafia clan leader and his daughter. Both first-time actors are impressive, and the low-key way in which the action takes place serves the story well. Covers similar ground to A Chiara (2021), which is also worth seeing.

Black Rain - Michael Douglas as Jeremy Clarkson and Andy Garcia as sycophantic Richard Hammond in good-looking but pretty silly Ridley Scott noirish cop thriller.

Sheep Detectives - I quite enjoyed this Miss Baa-ple episode.

Phantoms of July - Julian Radlmaier’s languid story of history repeating in Germany’s Harz mountains is charming, with enjoyable performances from its lead actresses.

  3. #LetterboxdFriday

    • DEKALOG parts V, VI & VII •
    • A SHORT FILM ABOUT KILLING •
    • A SHORT FILM ABOUT LOVE •
Watched three more episodes of Dekalog, and the expanded theatrical versions of two of those episodes.

    • BARRY LYNDON •
Another wish granted from my “movies I’d like to rewatch on big screen” list. The costumes, enormous paintings, interiors, exteriors and pastoral views are all experienced as Kubrick and cinematographer John Alcott intended.

  4. By the time I remembered yesterday was #LetterboxdFriday I was too tired to say anything about it! So here we are now. #LastFourWatched

Forbidden Fruits - 3.5 stars - definitely don't watch if you've ever been scared of escalators!
Best in Show - 4.5 stars - so fun, as always.
Friday the 13th part 6: Jason Lives - 3.5 stars - not the worst.
Keanu - 4.5 stars - hilarious and cute.

  5. @dlundh It’s been a weird week film-wise. #cinemastodon #LetterboxdFriday True Romance was a lot better than what I remember, but also a lot more violent! Watched the #arrowvideo disc with the DC cut. @UKFilmNerd @LaserdiscTurtle @Eg0nJN

  10. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched for this week- I mean, The Royal Hotel was from a previous week (not watching a ton of movies lately), but I did see three flicks since the last time. Finally took in World War Z (weird) ahead of its sequel. The Well was awesome- great twist- and Mike and Dave was hilarious.

  11. #lastfourwatched #LetterboxdFriday After seeing the trailer I can confirm that The forbidden city is a poor Chinese woman John Wick, brutal. SW is classic. They will kill you had a very fun vibe. Shelter is a slower Statham doing Statham. And yeah, this is a severely late friday update. 😊

  12. Happy #LetterboxdFriday !

In contrast to normal, no new releases here. My local multiplex only has a single new movie I'm interested in, The Sheep Detectives, but I'm gonna catch that with my wife next week. If only Blue Heron would expand outside the city...

So I stayed in and started working my way through my unwatched discs, starting with closing out Keaton.

Also, I think Joe Begos is becoming one of my favorite filmmakers? His sense of style and gonzo sensibility are a BLAST.

  14. My #LastFourWatched for this week's #LetterboxdFriday :

Killing Them Softly - 4/5, much better than I expected

The Luckiest Man in America - 2.5/5, I never got the intended purpose of the story

    A Room with a View - 4.5/5, a happy re-watch

Femme Fatale - 4/5, another surprise, I would have rated this higher if not for a cringe-y night club scene

    Happy viewing!
