    Comics Link Roundup October 11

Welcome to Imprinted Image, my comics newsletter. If this is your first time, welcome! This is the best way to keep up with my comics blog. After links to my most recent writing, I’ll provide a roundup of comics industry links. This can be news, media, criticism, or anything that I personally found interesting.

Please don’t forget about the resources tab on this website. It’s a collection of reading guides, tutorials, and free legal resources like public domain image archives. I want this to be as useful as possible, so if you have any additions please send them my way.

I made a comic! It’s a two-page mini-zine, and you can read it for free here. But! If you would like a cool print version mailed you, there are two ways you can do that. Either support me on Patreon to get this and any future physical media I do, or buy it on Ko-fi for as low as $ 1.

I also have a behind the scenes video previewing the physical mini-comic, as well as some behind-the-scenes information on my inspiration.

I have a Patreon! For as little as $3 a month, you can keep the lights on at this blog and get your name at the bottom of every article. At higher tiers, you can vote in monthly Patreon polls and more! Anything you can offer means the world to me, and I cherish all my supporters.

    Comics Challenge YouTube

I designed and am participating in a comics challenge this year, alongside some friends in the My Marvelous Year community. I have picked 52 comics from 52 categories, shown below. I’d love for you to participate and comment along as you are reading! Note that on this list, categories that match with episodes from the Extra Issues podcast.

I decided to create a YouTube documenting my reading journey!

This past week, I read Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill’s LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN.

    https://youtu.be/6XVppepRkog?si=ummm1sCc0USfvRH0

I’ve also been doing little shorts where I poorly read a scene I liked from these comics. I guess shortform video gets juiced in the algorithm because they have been blowing up. You can check out the playlist of them here.

It would mean the world to me if, in addition to watching this video, you subscribed to my channel and gave the video a like. No one knows exactly how the black box of social media algorithms work, but I do know that if you interact with the video in different ways, YouTube might show it to more people who would be interested. The other easy way you can help is by sharing this video with a comic fan in your life!

    Link Roundup

    News:

Some of the biggest news in the US right now is the creation of “Skydance” out of the Paramount / Warner Brothers merger. Among many likely outcomes, mostly negative, some have speculated this could affect DC comics. It is far too early to tell, but it would be a shame if the new boss started meddling with the recently white-hot DC comic line. I doubt they’d want to toss the line entirely, but I could definitely see much more oversight.

Marvel is sunsetting their Marvel Unlimited app in favor of an app developed in coordination with Webtoons. As long as this doesn’t decrease or change the comics available to readers, I’m all for this. Unlimited was an app that sufferered for lack of care. Webtoons, for the many criticisms that can be levied at it, is objectively good at creating a smooth reader experience. Keep the vast archive and add features like user-created reading orders and you are all set.

The New York Public Library released their list of the best comics of 2026.

List of crowdfunded comic projects you might want to back:
    Comic Book Yeti: 10/3.

    Other News Roundups:

    Comics Beat’s biweekly Digest: 10/2. 10/6. 10/8.
    The Comics Journal’s This Week’s Links: 10/2. 10/9.
    SKTCHD’s Comics Disassembled: 10/9.
    PRANA Bullet: 10/2. 10/9.

    Writing:

SKTCHD posted a Double Take with Oliver Sava looking at and reviewing the new Midnight Comics from Marvel and a look at how comic book shops are trying to capture new readers, who are coming in for the first time with hot books like ABSOLUTE BATMAN and TRANSFORMERS.

Shelfdust published a look at Plastic Man in POLICE COMICS # 2.

Comic Book Herald published his favorite comics of September 2026. He also had a look at the Marvel reprints being published by Taschen.

Heidi MacDonald of The Beat opines about what is coming next for the comic book industry. The industry, she writes, is a $2 billion industry, but in the age of venture capital, that isn’t enough to buy its independence. Inevitable change is coming, but what will it look like?

    My favorite video and podcasts:

    Podcasts:

New Marvel Editor in Chief Stephen Wacker made a podcast appearance that generated a bunch of headlines, all seemingly indicating a positive turn for Marvel. He seemingly repeated much of this at his appearance at New York Comic Con.

OFF PANEL had on Beetle Moses to talk his first print collection, out this week.

LET’S TALK COMICS had on Daniel Warren Johnson to talk CHAINKATA. This is a great interview traveling across all of DWJ’s career. The podcast also had an episode with Rob Liefeld. I haven’t listened to this one yet because the one thing I like less than modern Rob Liefeld comics (yes, his ’80s and ’90s stuff is silly but does have a real kinetic energy) is hearing Rob Liefeld talk. I guarantee he will take multiple potshots at modern comics creators much more successful at this point in their career than him and say that things were better back in the ’90s and the way to save Marvel and DC is to hire him and the other old guard suckerfish.

MY MARVELOUS YEAR posted 2015 Secret Wars pt. 1. It’s the beginning of the end, or the end of the beginning.

    Youtubes:

COMICTROPES posted a video on bootleg comic book action figures.

COMIC BOOK HERALD talked his take on Marvel’s Midnight comics.

  14. My 2026 Reading Stacks #2: The Lost Marvels’ Last Stand?

Previously on Midlife Crisis Crossover: Welcome once again to our recurring MCC feature in which I scribble capsule reviews of everything I’ve read within the past year that was published in a physical format over a certain page count with a squarebound spine on it — novels, original graphic novels, trade paperbacks, infrequent nonfiction dalliances, and so on. Due to the way I structure my media-consumption time blocks, the list will always feature more graphic novels than works of prose and pure text, though I do try to diversify my literary diet as time and acquisitions permit. Occasionally I’ll sneak in a contemporary review if I’ve gone out of my way to buy and read something brand new. Every so often I’ll borrow from my wife Anne or from our local library. But the majority of our spotlighted works are presented years after the rest of the world already finished and moved on from them because I’m drawing from my vast unread pile that presently occupies four oversize shelves comprising thirty-eight years of uncontrolled book shopping. I’ve occasionally pruned the pile, but as you can imagine, cut out one unread book and three more take its place. I’ve previously written why I don’t do eBooks. Perhaps someday I’ll also explain why these capsules are exclusive to MCC and not shared on Amazon, Goodreads, or other sites where their authors might prefer I’d share them. In the meantime, here’re some reading results... ...at shorter length this time, covering the physically heaviest books I've read so far this year. Two of them took much longer to read than the third, and are the main reasons why my total book count won't reach 50 this year unless I really step up my speed and/or set other hobbies aside. […]

  17. OK, this is the scariest fucking thing I've seen in a while: Some #AI slop machine has made and published a fake history of *me*, where all the basic details are my name and my life; publishing #Comics / #GraphicNovels, delivering workshops on narrative storytelling, but all the specific details and sources are fabrications, and it conflates me with a British footballer of the same name.
