  1. Java SDK updates for Slackware all across the board

Today I pushed fresh Slackware packages (for 15.0 and -current, and 32bit as well as 64bit) for various new OpenJDK releases. This is a quarterly process where the Java developers release a "GA" version. The "GA" stands for General Availability. The "GA" version indicates that the software is considered stable, feature-complete, and ready for use in production environments.

  2. Okay, this is pretty cool:

If you grew up in the golden era of syndication, you probably saw the show "WKRP in Cincinnatti" every afternoon for who knows how long. Do you remember Johnny Fever, Venus Flytrap, Jennifer Marlowe, Bailey Quarters, Andy and the rest?

Well, this guy extracted all of "Dr." Johnny Fever's on-air bits from the show, filled in the music that he mentions, and created a 3-hour audio segment from it. You can stream it or download it.

I have a particular fondness for this, because as a teenager I worked at a restaurant for a guy who looked and sounded exactly like Dr. Johnny Fever. He was cool, he treated us like real people, and he was the one who let me know just how good gin & iced tea go together. His name was Perry Grabowski, and I'm guessing he's not around anymore.

    Anyway, enjoy.

#icedTea #fountainpen #photography

Eye drops, which used to be for waking up, have become a necessity before long. Many times I make the mistake of buying the wrong ones.

  4. There's a Mexican restaurant that's famous for their 100yr-old mole sauce. A bit hyperbolic, but they keep adding to the leftovers from the previous batch for a continuous sort of 'sauce of Theseus.'

I do something similar with iced tea – adding fresh or leftover tea regularly, along with lemon and sugar syrup. It's generally pretty good, with occasional days where it's spectacular.

  5. Visiting the states for a bit. One of the things I miss is easy access to large amounts of unsweetened iced tea. McDonald's doesn't sell it in Ireland #ireland #icedtea #mcdonalds

  6. Drinks including #water, #soda, #beer #wine sold in #glass #bottles contain more #microplastics than those in #plastic bottles, according to surprising study released by #France #foodsafety agency Friday. The researchers found an average of around 100 #microplastic #particles per liter in #glass bottles of soft drinks, #lemonade, #icedtea and beer. That was five to 50 times higher than the rate detected in plastic bottles or #metal #cans. phys.org/news/2025-06-glass-bo #publichealth

    What is your favorite drink?

As the title entails, it is Iced Tea and Cold Coffee.

    1. Iced Tea

I fell in love with tea, green tea, black tea and oolong tea in particular when I was 14 years old.

At that time, I was looking into drinks to aid my weight loss and I came across green tea and oolong tea being suitable drinks in facilitating weight loss when consumed without sugar.

Thus, I brewed my first proper sugarless green tea and fell in love with the taste. Ever since then, I started drinking it on a regular basis and it has pretty much replaced water for me.

Did it aid with weight loss?

Perhaps in the beginning, eventually, I continued drinking it because I enjoyed the taste be it warm or cold.

As I started working, I would usually prepare cold brew green tea in order for me to bring to work the following day.

    Why cold?

The environment that I’m working in can get rather warm and considering I am a person who perspires easily, the temperature of the tea eases me and provides immediate rejuvenation.

Even after a long day at work, nothing refreshes me more than a cold brew green tea served in mason jar and a straw.

    2. Cold Coffee

I am a HUGE fan of coffee, black sugarless coffee in particular.

My love for coffee began since I was in primary school, which I think is a bad thing since children are not supposed to consume coffee.

Back then, my mother would used to prepare coffee for my father and milo for me prior to my father sending me off to school and heading to work.

Me and my father would then switch drinks after he has drank half of his drink.

Then, when I turned 14 years old, I started pulling an all nighter or getting up at midnight just to study.

Eventually, I developed immunity towards coffee and is able to fall asleep even after consuming it. Thus, I merely consume it out of addiction and routine.

As I started working, as mentioned in my explanation for cold tea, the environment is rather warm for me to be consuming hot coffee. Hence, I would prepare my mason jars of coffee the night prior and transfer it into my flask the following day.

  10. First sip is very similar to the previous beverage. The tea and lemon are present, and it doesn't seem to be significantly sweeter than the previous version, so that's a plus.

  11. First sip is not hiding the alcohol so much as just existing alongside it with a tea that matches their description - slightly sweet.

  12. It hasn't been engineered to look like particularly good tea, but the homogeneity of the tea is reflective of a very cookie cutter perspective when it comes to producing beverages

  13. Tea looks a lot like tea. As a bonus, no one at the factory chimed in with the bad idea of adding carbonation to it.

  14. And now for something completely different...

A quick Arnold Palmer. This is to make a tall 500ml/16 oz glass.

Brew up a mug of your favorite tea (actually coffee works really well here as well.) Make a bit stronger than usual.

While it is still hot, pour it over an equal amount of ice. I use about 150ml water and 150g ice. Stir in a tablespoon or two of frozen lemonade concentrate (I use about 30g.) Give it a good stir until the ice melts. I usually do this part in a Pyrex measuring cup, just in case. Pour that over some ice in a nice tall glass, balance for sweet/tart with a bit more lemonade or sugar.

    Enjoy!

  15. @pelielios I am open to tea recommendations for #IcedTea - there's this korean barley tea, I think its Dongsuh brand, we get at H-Mart which a refreshing and somewhat unusual decaf option.

  16. Been making tea from Lemon Balm/Melissa leaves and chilling it in the fridge in old-style bottles. It’s amazing, and the lemongrassy zing makes it such a good mixing drink with anything else.
