CW: Introduction post with lots of hashtags
New server, new #Introduction, I guess
I'm an #ActuallyAutistic #Queer person in #Edinburgh, #Scotland. I usually post about my interests or random thoughts in my head. I also often complain about technology around me. I also like to read about sustainability. Trying to keep my #HousePlants alive.
What you should know is I'm lactose intolerant. So please keep dairy away from my feed, haha.
I like watching #SciFi ( #StarTrek, #StarGate, #DoctorWho, and others), but I also like #MurderMystery. If you don't want to be murdered, don't go to Cabot Cove ( #MurderSheWrote). Occasionally I watch some #musical.
I try to get better at Go ( #weiqi, #baduk)
For games I usually play on my #NintendoSwitch (casual gamer - #MarioKart, #AnimalCrossing, #MarioParty, main series of #Mario, #Splatoon, #WarioGames, and more) and #BoardGames (a casual fan - I genuinely enjoy playing #Cluedo and #Munchkin. I also enjoy #Fluxx, #GiveMeTheBrain, #Scrabble, #TheSettlersOfCatan, Pandemic (that hashtag would be confusing), #ExplodingKittens, #Dixit, and more)
#TheHobbit is still my favourite book, but I also like #MissMarple, #Poirot, and #SherlockHolmes. #TheHitchhikersGuideToTheGalaxy series is great. So is #Discworld by #TerryPratchett. Enjoyed #EarthSea series.
I like to drink #Tea, especially #GreenTea. Enjoy animated shows like #Daria, #Amphibia, #TheOwlHouse, #ScoobyDoo, #GravityFalls, #BobsBurgers, #SpyXFamily, #InvaderZim, #DuckTales, #AvatarTheLastAirbender, old #TheSimpsons, #SpongeBob, and others
Occasionally watch some #KDrama
Fan of #sriracha

Matcha from Ocha no Kanbayashi: Kyoto’s tea legacy are back in stock!
For over 400 years, Ocha no Kanbayashi has crafted Uji matcha, blending tradition and innovation. Their shaded tencha leaves, hand-picked and stone-ground, create a matcha of vibrant green color, rich aroma, and deep umami flavor. A taste of Kyoto’s finest tea heritage. Discover more about their history on https://www.ikiya.it/en/blog/ocha-no-kanbayashi-uji/

In a mouse experiment where obesity was induced with a high-fat diet, subsequent addition of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG)--a compound found in green tea--to the diet for four weeks resulted in lower body weight, better insulin sensitivity, no hippocampal shrinkage, and better memory. The brains of the EGCG-treated mice had lower inflammation and normal cellular recycling.

Of course, a pitcher and strainer is a fine way to make a larger batch of Longjing/Dragonwell green tea. I sometimes use a press pot (just don't use one you've used for coffee). Longjing/Dragonwell green tea from Bitterleaf teas.
-
One common way to drink Chinese green tea, especially Dragonwell/Longjing, is to simply put the dry tea leaves in a tall glass, add water, (typically 185F/85C), then wait for the buds to drop to the bottom of the glass. As you drink down the tea throughout the day, add more warm water to the glass. It does require more patience than, say, gong fu brewing, but it also teaches a lesson. Plus, the dancing leaves are pretty. This is Longjing/Dragonwell from Bitterleaf Teas.

🚮 Oh joy, another so-called "riveting" analysis of Go's garbage collector, because watching memory management is what we all dream about at night. 🙄 Apparently, Green Tea is the new darling, but I bet you didn't actually realize your subscriptions were funding a microscopic tour through the digital landfill, did you? 💸

Woo! Last of the 2023 White2Tea greens! Mao Jian King, (despite Google autocorrect's insistence on calling it Mao "Joan" King,) is always a treat, even if it is a bit "vintage".

It looks like a shriveled, dehydrated weed,
Dropped in a glass mug, a strange looking seed.
Add boiling water, and give it some room,
To watch the tight onion explode into bloom! It’s performance art you can legally drink,
Far fancier than the stale bags in my sink.
A botanical showpiece, elegant and grand,
Until a rogue petal gets stuck in my teeth again.#FloweringTea #BloomingTea #TeaTime #Teastagram #BrewBeautifully #FancyTea #GreenTea #LeafLife

🏝KISS THE BREEZE🏝 - Charcoal-dried Wild Green Tea from Vietnam
Those who appreciate the fresh character of green tea but dislike pronounced bitterness will love this tea. The gentle drying over charcoal gives it an exceptionally smooth and harmonious aroma. Fine marine notes, barely perceptible bitterness, and a pleasantly sweet aftertaste provide gentle refreshment and a particularly well-balanced taste experience.

Gaiwan brewing purple silver bud only green tea just for variety. (I don't usually brew green tea in a gaiwan.) But I figure, since it is almost more like a baihao yinzhen, why not?
-
White2Tea's "Purple Silver" is technically a green tea, but it drinks a lot more like a bud only white tea from Fujian. Grain sweetness, low astringency, and no bitterness to speak of.

Despite being a bit "vintage" for a green tea, White2Tea's 2023 cloud mist green is a very enjoyable. Don't immediately disregard well stored slightly old green teas!

Did you know? On hot days, cold-brewed teas (especially green ones) are the perfect way to refresh and hydrate.
The secret? Infuse them directly in cold water (10-15 minutes at room temperature), never hot then cooled, or they’ll turn bitter. We always recommend it cold when temperatures rise, it's the best way to enjoy tea in summer!

For International Tea Day, my Green Tea Chemistry print. This linocut illustrates green tea and its chemistry. There’s a tea pot, two cups of tea and a tea plant (Camellia sinensis) on a tray, and in the steam, you can see some of the organic chemicals found in green tea. Up to 27% of the composition of green tea can be a member of the flavonoids called catechins like the molecule illustrated on the right. 🧵
