  1. Want to know more about how to #track #birds in the #wild?

@alexhhchan.bsky.social produced this #HipHop song "#Frame by Frame" to explain how his #CHIRP #dataset can be used to have a long-term, individual-level, behavioral monitoring of bird populations in the wild.

"No one now gets out of the sight,
Tracking identities from the #morning to the #night,
    Monitoring the wild
    Frame by frame"

  2. Male Red-tailed Minla (Minla ignotincta). Found in the Indian subcontinent & Southeast Asia. Its diet shifts with the seasons, from an insectivorous focus on beetles, caterpillars & ants during the breeding season to supplementing with berries, small seeds & flower nectar in winter. #birds #wildlife #nature #ecology #photo

  3. An Oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus) ran/bounced up my driveway and then decided to jump on top of the giant tree stump that is waiting to be chainsawed and call out for over 10 minutes straight then flew back to the field next door where it is nesting. Photo taken through glass window.
If you would like to hear the call the RSPB have a recording on their site rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife

  4. La pariade bat son plein dans l'Estuaire du St-Laurent. They arrive in may to give birth and leave in september. #birds #bird #oiseaux #oiseau #cotenord #nature #quebec #sterne #tern

  5. Perched Above Still Water

This anhinga (Anhinga anhinga) perched quietly on a dead tree in a pond in west‑central Georgia. I almost missed it because of how well it blended into its surroundings.

Step into a world where even the smallest moments—like the glint in a bird's eye—tell their own story.

  9. Good morning. 🦢🪿🦆

    28 May 2026

I stopped by the pharmacy on post yesterday afternoon to pick up a resupply of meds. There was a short line at the pickup counter, mostly older retirees like me. If they’re anything like I am, it’s probably the only reason they still come to Fort Polk.

I noticed—again—that many of them wore baseball caps covered in military regalia, often with their retired rank pinned somewhere on the front. Over the years I’ve come to think of that whole setup as the ‘pharmacy hat.’ It’s an identity marker, a way of saying I served, even though standing in an Army hospital should be clue enough.

Every now and then I even see someone in the full hat‑and‑vest combo, both pieces covered in patches and pins. I’m not criticizing—just observing. There’s nothing wrong with being proud of spending most of your working life in service to the nation.

I usually wear a baseball cap myself when I go out, one with the letters LA on the front. That’s its own kind of identity signal: it says I cheer for the Los Angeles Dodgers and hints that I’m originally from California—which I am.

And yes, I truly do understand their need to be recognized. For twenty or thirty years they lived immersed in a culture that became the only world they really knew. Then, in what feels like the blink of an eye, they found themselves on the outside looking in—no longer part of the team. It’s quite a transition, and we all handle it differently.

After a lifetime of knowing exactly what to wear, a person is suddenly left wondering, maybe for the first time, what do I put on now?

“We know what we are, but not what we may be.” — William Shakespeare

“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” — Joseph Campbell

“Sometimes letting go is an act of far greater power than hanging on.” — Eckhart Tolle
