    Chantelle Smith was with her daughter on Sunday morning on K'gari when they came across a stranded juvenile humpback whale. After she recorded this footage, a number of other local volunteers arrived to keep the animal wet. The juvenile mammal became trapped on a sandbank at the southern entrance of Wathumba Creek, sparking an immediate rescue effort from local beachgoers and wildlife authorities. A spokesperson for the Department of Environment confirmed that the whale managed to free itself and return to the ocean
