Ein kleiner Koala

Im Zoo Zürich ist ein junger Koala zur Welt gekommen. Bezüglich der Geburt von Koalas gehe ich nicht zu sehr ins Detail, aber nur so viel: Der Kleine war nach seiner wirklichen Geburt als bohnengrosses Tierlein schon länger in den Beutel seiner Mutter (ja, Koalas sind Beuteltiere) gekrabbelt, dort zu einem Koala-Baby herangewachsen und zeigt sich nun immer häufiger ausserhalb des Beutels. Zum grossen Teil ist der Kleine jedoch immer noch im warmen Beutel und trinkt bei Bedarf die Milch seiner Mutter.

Gestern pilgerte ich deshalb nach Zürich, in der Hoffnung, einen Blick auf die Koala-Mutter und ihr Kleines werfen zu können. Dies erwies sich als enorme Geduldsprobe: Als ich gegen 12:30 Uhr eintraf, schlief die Koala-Mutter herrlich in etwa fünf Metern Höhe in einer Eukalyptus-Astgabelung. Mit mir warteten total sechs oder sieben weitere Leute darauf, dass sich da oben etwas täte.

Kurz nach 14 Uhr geriet Leben ins Gehege: Mutter und Kind erwachten, das Kind schlüpfte aus dem Beutel, die Mutter rutschte – das Kind erst auf der Brust, dann auf dem Rücken oder seitlich festgeklammert – den Baumstamm entlang abwärts, knabberte etwas Eukalyptus, um anschliessend ein wenig hin und her zu rutschen, zu -springen und sich auszuruhen.

Wir Fotografen kamen voll auf unsere Kosten. Es gab sehr tolle Sujets – bevor Mutter und Kind unvermittelt nach gut zwanzig Minuten wieder oben im Blattwerk des Baumes verschwanden.

Der Ausflug hatte sich gelohnt!
