What a strange day. A Prothonotary Warbler sighting made the Rare Bird listing today. After breaking the long-term temperature record of 38.8℃ yesterday at 39.4℃ woke up to cool weather and rain. Since today was a volunteer workday we worked on the large tree recovery (a Red Oak) by starting the bucking process and removing as many dangerous limbs and bent trees as possible. It rained the entire time with a stiff north breeze and a steady temperature of 21℃ for which I was not ready. Chilled and soaked to the bone. Had to use the gas pole saw since my battery unit can't handle rain. Still much to do there next week. The whiplash from 39+ to 21 is tough. I'm sure next week back at 38℃ will be just as tough.

Prepping a couple of meals for the parrots. The front bowls are dinner and the back ones breakfast tomorrow, which they will get mixed in with some pellets. Dinner is steamed veg and fruit: Butternut squash, baby carrots, baby peppers, tenderstem broccoli and sugarsnap peas. Breakfast is a fresh chop mix (spinach, bell pepper, chillies, radishes and broccoli, with some of the steamed veg added. Fruit added to both mixes consists of: golden kiwi, cherry, blueberries, steamed apricot and some pomegranate for Toby. Breakfast is topped with a little pinch of ground flaxseed - very good Omega 6:3 ratio with the Omega 3 high. And, because it's Saturday, dinner has a wee dusting of turmeric powder - good for liver function. Jadie has the smaller bowls as she will only eat her wet food off the flat perch and is very fussy about what she will eat 🤷🏻♀️
My parrots eat better than I do 😂

It's set to be hot the next wee while, so I have made the parrots a smoothie. Frozen berries (strawberry, blackberry, raspberry and blueberry) with half an apple and a good helping of kale and some tenderstem broccoli. Kept one container in the fridge and popped the others back in the freezer so that we can give them a smoothie ice when we take them outside into the heat over the weekend 🙂
Now to see how the smoothie goes down with them....

Parrot Kitchen is up and running 😊 Today we're making fresh chop with bell peppers, tenderstem broccoli, curly kale, chillies and carrots as well as making broth mix (pearl barley, red lentils, yellow and green split peas) , quinoa and lightly steaming some apricots, plums, snap peas and red pepper to mix into the quinoa for their lunch today.
