The Rare Birds Report included Acadian Flycatchers this morning, a bird that should be two weeks gone. These are beautiful flycatchers (tyrants), with distinct calls ('peet-sah'), One has been hanging around the maintenance yard, so not hard to believe the sighting.

Also including a Great Crested Flycatcher, as they should be gone by end of week.

No photos of the Golden-winged, only recordings and memories so you're stuck with a Magnolia.

Also including a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher since it is a favorite. They nest in our area and are amazingly gregarious, a joy to watch.

What a strange day. A Prothonotary Warbler sighting made the Rare Bird listing today. After breaking the long-term temperature record of 38.8℃ yesterday at 39.4℃ woke up to cool weather and rain. Since today was a volunteer workday we worked on the large tree recovery (a Red Oak) by starting the bucking process and removing as many dangerous limbs and bent trees as possible. It rained the entire time with a stiff north breeze and a steady temperature of 21℃ for which I was not ready. Chilled and soaked to the bone. Had to use the gas pole saw since my battery unit can't handle rain. Still much to do there next week. The whiplash from 39+ to 21 is tough. I'm sure next week back at 38℃ will be just as tough.

We did tie a record of 39.4℃ yesterday
and will likely break a record today before a brief respite. Looks like the beast of 38℃ will return next week for another round of torture. I am very tired of this high pressure dome. It is slowing me down and seems to be slowing down migration numbers.

One of our spring/fall migrants is around for a while to refresh before passing south; one of the very difficult warbles to ID. eBird is an excellent resource if you are trying to understand abundance charts and trying to see a particular bird, such as the Nashville Warbler.

One of our fall migrants making a stop-over to build up strength as they move south to their Central American wintering grounds. These are small flycatchers, where the primary feathers are shorter than the tail. Their call is faint, and hard for me to hear so luck and behavior recognition more than anything is a factor.

The heat dome has not gotten the memo yet, we hit 39.4℃ yesterday, and may tie or set a record today /tomorrow with the same. Our "normal" highs should be ~31℃ with overnight lows of 19℃. - not even close.
