Our summer has kicked into high gear making it tougher for this old man to get out for hikes and work on the volunteer trail crew. We have had 11 days past the magical 37.77̅℃ (100℉). It looks like the next 14 days will be as hot and likely closer to 40℃+ (104℉ or higher) every day. No records, but it may be close. We worked 4 hours yesterday clearing fallen trees from trails (==wiped out): started early, quit at 11:00am.
Still hearing birds, but sightings are becoming more of a challenge. Trees are showing signs of heat stress and dropping leaves. I hope our lake does not dry out.

Fall Hummingbird migration is in full swing, and the feeders are BUSY. I've been trying to get back into a regular photo-taking habit, so here's my favorites from this week. The Rufous Hummers are putting on quite the show. We have four species here: Rufous, Calliope, Broad Tailed and Black Chinned.

🇫🇷 Pas de grande rando mais un pic-nic sympa et une petite balade et un bain de pieds dans l'eau glacée du bassin "Kneipp" (et aussi les bras dans le bac spécifique) pour activer la circulation sanguine. Et deux rencontres sympa : une sittelle torchepot (malheureusement un peu trop peu de lumières) qui en avait après les noisettes et un troglodyte mignon qui, lui s'est laissé photographié sans protester! Et tout ça au bord d'un petit lac bien sympathique de l'Eifel à Rieden.
🇬🇧 No big hike but a nice picnic and a short walk and a foot bath in the icy water of the "Kneipp" pool (and also an arms bath in the specific tank) to stimulate de blood circulation. And two nice encounters: a nuthatch (unfortunately a little too few light) which was after the hazelnuts and a cute wren which allowed itself to be photographed without protesting! And all this on the banks of a very nice little lake in the Eifel in Rieden.

In the short time since, it has become the laughing-stock of the world, following a manifesto of self destruction, and baby-sitting a petulant toddler. Time to flush them all and seek a fresh restart. Time to face future in a burning world.
