    Cardinal and a Flower

    I sat outside watching birds one morning. First came the brown headed cowbirds, then the house finches, finally the northern cardinals. Each group would stay awhile and leave. Individual birds like chickadees, titmice, and woodpeckers come to the feeders for seconds, get what they want and leave.

    This is a female northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis), a young bird I think, who was accommodating enough to pose by flowers of a crepe myrtle tree.
