  1. What are some podcasts that talk about indie games/pbta/story games and stuff?

I used to hear about things from the Jankcast (their old AW actual play really helped the game click for me) but they’ve been dead for ages and I haven’t replaced it in my listening.

I know there are a ton of OSR/D&D ones, but I want something that will talk about stuff like Good Society and Masks and Stonetop and stuff.

Since the beginning of this year, The Bartholomew Collective has been forming a relationship of mutual aid with Sara Abu Rida. Sara is a dear friend of ours from Gaza, doing everything she can to keep her loved ones alive. Her family includes her mother, nieces and nephews, extended family, and community. Since the escalation of the genocide, her family home has been destroyed by bombs, and her family has been displaced numerous times. Amongst rampant starvation, sickness, unending violence, and the complete destruction of Palestine's economy, Sara and her family have a constant need for funds.

  11. Supporters rally for #ProPalestinian #protesters arrested in #PortlandME

    Aysia Reed,WGME
    Thu, July 10th 2025

PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) -- "The #MaineCoalitionForPalestine held a rally on Thursday outside of the Cumberland County Courthouse ahead of the criminal court arraignment of pro-Palestinian protesters who were arrested in Portland in May.

"Twenty protesters, ages 22 through 87, were arrested in May for blocking Commercial Street.

"Ten of those protesters were arraigned on Thursday morning while the remaining 10 will be arraigned later this month.

"The Maine Coalition for Palestine says they were bringing attention to the #genocide in #Gaza.

"The protesters were charged with class E misdemeanors for obstructing a public way.

"One of the people taken away in handcuffs was #BobSchaible, who's in his 80s [87 to be exact].

"He says this was his first time being arrested and said he would do it all over again to inspire action to get humanitarian aid to Gaza.

" 'Congress has to take a stand. We want the Portland people, more of them, to know what is happening,' Schaible said.

"Maine Voices for Palestinian Rights Chair Abby Fuller helped organize the protest in May.

" 'We have written our congressional representatives, we've called them, we've held rallies in the streets, we've done all kinds of things -- everything we can think of. And our government has not changed its policy of support for Israel,' Fuller said.

"Fuller was also arrested and charged with obstructing a public way."

So creative. So sonically rich. So emotionally real and relevant. So of-its-time and yet still forward-looking. For the ages.

  18. We Were Warned and Still Hit Snooze

I woke up, hit play, and got smacked in the face by The Idiots Are Taking Over by NOFX like it was still 2003 and nothing had improved. Turns out, nothing has improved. Cute. There’s something almost comforting about a song that predicted the slow-motion circus we’re all living in now. Not comforting in a warm, fuzzy way. More like, “at least someone saw the train coming before it hit us all.” I respect that level of pessimism. It ages well. The lyrics aren’t subtle. They […]

  19. Such a lovely day today. I was at the pool just before 8.30 & straight into it. 1.5km & an 1 & a half hrs later I was done & happy. Came home got changed & tidied up & was picked up before noon by my friend & off we went for lunch. Veggie quiche & salad for me & it was enormous, I couldn’t get through it all. There’s a fabulous gift store & nursery attached to the cafe & we all had a lovely time checking everything out. Some things were bought, but I saved my purchases for the nursery. I came across a herb supposed to help memory, one I’d never heard of before & apparently also good in salads or tea, so I tasted it - it was foul tasting, I had to spit it out. Still I bought some purple basil & chamomile & I’ll plant them in the morning when it’s cooler. Next my friend had a big list of things she wanted to get from Bunnings, so off we went there & it certainly was a big list. It was actually a lot of fun seeing all the stuff that our biggest Bunnings has, there is definitely a load of the weird & wonderful items in there. We were in there for ages. I checked out a few pots that were a good size for so plan to go back after Christmas & New Year. Arrived home close to 4pm a bit tired but very satisfied, fruit & yoghurt for my dinner. It’s the simple things ☺️. #GoodFriends #GoodDay #HappyDay

  22. CW: my take on The Barbie movie that wasn't, death talk

I've finally seen it. I can see how people would consider it to be a good movie. Moreover, I don't get the conservative ire at this movie.

    However...

As a cancer survivor, as someone who has counselled people undergoing cancer treatment of all ages, as someone who routinely lends a compassionate ear to young folks who have to deal with shitty family, bullies, and mental health issues...

I think that movie could have been much more powerful, but perhaps not as appealing to the general public.

See, when they mentioned ideation about death, I thought they were going to go all in. It would be some *child* having this ideation for whatever reason (illness, bullies, etc.), and it would make the movie all the more poignant.

Going down this route would not have required the movie to have a sad ending. The bullies could have been countered, the illness defeated (like my own cancer was), etc. I know from experience that in real life, not all endings are happy endings. They could have preserved the happy ending for the movie, because people do triumph.

Alas, it was the mother who was thinking about death.

I think they chickened out somewhere, consciously, or not.

When I think about this movie, I think about the movie that could have been, but wasn't.
