I'm all for the open web, and all the results requiring me to create an account I'm really not interested in those.

Verlasse Google und Bing und nutze datenschutzfreundliche Suchmaschinen wie StartPage oder die Bezahlsuchmaschinen Kagi oder Metager. Die speichern keine persönlichen Daten und verfolgen deine Suchanfragen nicht. Für maximale Privatsphäre kannst du auch auf SearXNG setzen – eine Open-Source-Suchmaschine, die du sogar selbst hosten kannst.

does any Startpage user also experience that, when the searching query ends with the word “website”, it will trigger captcha verification, but if the query only contains the word “website”, or if there are words after “website”, it will go through…boomer like me who loves visiting someone’s website through search engine really suffers

i wonder why they set up this RegEx rule (i guess)…

@CafeJunkie Das musst du dem HR schreiben und nicht mir. 🧐 Ich habe den Beitag lediglich geteilt. Aber du hast schon Recht. #Startpage ist in der Tat eine gute Alternative. Beim Messager ist es so eine Sache. Je mehr man die Sicherheit hochschraubt umso unbequemer ist es ja auch. Es geht ja darum einen Ersatz für den Otto Normalverbraucher zu haben. Da bietet Signal einen guten Mittelweg. Für #Conversations #XMPP z.B. braucht man wieder einen eigenen Server, da steigen viele ja direkt aus.

Some people heeded the call for a while, only to quietly return to Big Tech later on.

Now, many have been jolted awake by our dependence on Big Tech, and another #quitday and other variations are gaining momentum.

I’m sure I’m forgetting a few, but there’s a European and open-source alternative for every American Big Tech and closed-source application.

What I’ve noticed is that many people are afraid of what they don’t know and therefore don’t dare to make the switch (completely).
(Some people just don’t give a damn and convenience is all that matters)

Any fear is unfounded, and if all of us switches en masse, Big Tech’s power will be quickly broken, and the development of alternatives will proceed much more smoothly and quickly.

Vroeger hadden we #deleteFacebook #deleteMeta #deleteWhatsApp en noem maar op.

Sommigen gaven daar even gehoor aan om later toch stilletjes terug te keren naar Big Tec.

Nu werden velen even wakker geschud door onze afhankelijkheid van Amerikaanse Big Tec en komt er weer een #doeidag en andere varianten op gang.

Persoonlijk ben ik die reis al jaren geleden begonnen.

Ik vergeet er vast nog een paar, maar er is voor elke Amerikaanse en Closed Source toepassing wel een Europees en Open Source alternatief.

Wat ik merk is dat veel mensen bang zijn voor dat wat ze niet kennen en daarom niet (geheel) durven over te stappen.
(sommigen interesseerd het gewoon geen reet en is gemak het enige dat telt)

Eventuele angst is ongegrond en als we met heel Europa massaal overstappen is de macht van Big Tec snel gebroken en verloopt de ontwikkeling van alternatieven veel soepeler en sneller.

Get a new Start Page look on mobile every day with Daily Images.

When you open a new tab in Vivaldi on Android or iOS, you likely see the Start Page with your favorite Speed Dials. To give the Start Page some character, set a unique background for it. You can go for an image from the defaults, use your own image, or get a new automatically updated photo every day from Unsplash.

To enable Daily Images on mobile, either:
