Getting great @kagihq natively into Safari only works via a plugin, and that’s pretty error-prone. So I went looking for alternatives. @quicheindustries and Orion Browser are both excellent.

Orion won, because it also lets me use Firefox and Chrome extensions. Ciao Safari on iOS!

Kagi just shipped two useful updates.

Its Stocks widget now supports ETFs, interactive price charts, multiple time ranges, and more market data.

It also added an “Exclude paywalled websites” setting that automatically removes known paywalled sites from search results.

@Mehrad #Kagi isn't a charity. It's a US for-profit (afaik a Delaware "public benefit corp," but still a corporation). I think they need a non profit control though being #USA based I would still be reluctant to invest my time or give them my money. With Trump, USA or China makes no difference. I appreciate that #Kagi is developing a unique browser using #GTK and #WebKit. We need more diversity in this area. However, the UI of the #Linux version feels very unpolished, to say the least. It seems as if it were automatically converted from the Cocoa framework to GTK. There are quite a few GTK experts who would be happy to do contract work for Kagi to make it look and feel right. A polished product like #GNOME Web with the ambition of the #OrionBrowser would be really unique.

I went ahead and gave #kagi a llook last night. Or well ... I tried to. I saw they want to create a more privacy-focused search, then immediately asked me to create an account. I might just be pedantic but that feels really mixed messaging to me, like ... I need to register myself with you, giving you a method I can be reached at, before i can use the service, and that is somehow more private? Sure, I have no doubt they will track me less, or serve fewer ads but this first impression just really doesn't do it for me

Well, here’s a fun usecase for AI. @kagihq makes a bunch of AI models available via their assistant. One being Google’s Gemma 4 31B (dumb name, bruh.) Hoping/assuming Google would allow its own model access to maps data…

ANYWAY. There’s a directory wiki of places you can buy postcards on the @postcrossing forum. So I copied a list of LA-area spots, dumped it into Kagi Assistant and asked which are open until 7 or later. And got a nice majorly abridged list. This is a time saver. Though, I’ll need to confirm…

I've tinkered with local AI coding setup. I need to treat it as a thief and crook. I configured few MCP servers, one being Kagi search. I hoped this, with proper api key, would reduce bot blocks. It's understandable sites blocking all these agents.

- Hermes Studio failed to connect to Kagi saying "token looks like abbreviated in config". Solution: added instruction not to abbreviate token. 😂

- After any failure with Kagi the agent switches to duckduckgo (and continues failing there) . Instructed to use only Kagi MCP. Agent start calling curl duckduck... Instructed not to use terminal and curl for searches. Agent starts calling powershell curl duckduck. 😔

No wonder that these agents escape their sandboxes. They are made to permutate commands until they get a step further. Relentlessly.
