Ever looked for a good explanation of partial moves in Rust?
I searched for `rust partial move` on https://uruky.com. The very first result was a post pointing at https://whileydave.com/2020/11/30/understanding-partial-moves-in-rust/. It's on-point, conscise and very helpful. These days, that experience using search engines and the web in general has become rare!
Thanks @WhileyDave for an excellent article, and thanks to Uruky for not making me wade through ads, slop or SEO-infested results. (Preparing this post, I also checked Google. It listed Dave's article as the third result, with the first two being less helpful in my opinion.)

@ctt Currently maining #Uruky but there are cases when Kagi (unfortunately) is better. (but I'm doing my best to provide feedback to Uruky dev to improve things).
And Uruky is improving every week.
Yesterday my feature request for a one click link to the Wayback Machine version of a page got added.
This week they also added post-search filtering so that filetype: searches only return that actual filetype (cause some providers don't support it and might just return filetypes that don't match) -
Using a smaller search engine, maybe one with their own index:
Give them feedback!I have been using #Uruky for the last couple months, and besides having provided MUCH feedback on the UI/UX, I've also just been giving feedback about the actual results, and that's caused MANY bugs in result processing and indexing to be fixed. Both for Uruky but also for the external search providers they use (EUSP, #Mojeek , etc).
Shoutout to Bruno from Uruky and Marc from Mojeek for fixing stuff so quickly!

Okay, I have switched to #Uruky as my primary search now (terrible naming tbqh, I keep forgetting how it's called). I didn't want to give #Kagi money because of their questionable pandering to crypto+ai plus "right wing is just an opinion man" style of being "apolitical". I do have my healthy dose of skepticism towards paid search (even easier to track), but they allow for rather anonymous payment methods and don't even require an email for sign-up. And let's be honest, unpaid search engine are good at tracking us just so.
But Uruky states that you effectively need to trust them (thanks for being honest), while giving believable options to reduce footprint. But the search experience itself? stellar. I can configure everything, from what I prefer to what I dislike, what sources to use, have bangs or not, even URL re-writes (e.g., pointing to archive.today by default lol), boosting certain domains (wikipedia), configure interface language independently of result language, and so on. This is amazing actually.

After jumping around FOSS/-ish search providers for a while, and most recently encountering issues with Qwant and Startpage because I started using a VPN, I stumbled upon Uruky (https://uruky.com/) and decided to give it a try as the first time a payed for a search engine!
I've been having a **great** time for now!
Better search, better experience, Uruky!
A blog post with more details incoming.

I love how uruky.com gives me human made websites 10x more consistently than DDG did. I just found out it also can label/block slop using a community maintained list.
I've only been using it a few days, and yet its probably saved me weeks of my lifespan compared to what I'd have lost filtering through halluci-slopped software "documentation" or mental health "information" on most other search engines.

@GroupNebula563 @asklemmy @askfedi I've been daily driving Uruky, it's got a long ways to go but progress is being made. (there's definitely a lot of things that #Kagi still does better.)
Been trying to keep track of bugs and suggestions i have

If you are willing and able to tweak some settings, the Uruky private search experience is on par with that of DuckDuckGo.

The Privacy Dad’s Blog: Interview with the Engineer of Uruky, a Private Search Engine. “Bruno reached out to me mid-April with a suggestion to check out his privacy-first search engine tool Uruky. Uruky works on a subscription model, but one of my kids and I were able to test it out for free for a couple of months.”

-
I have just seen #Uruky, this European alternative to #Kagi (paid search engine) and I like the idea. They seem anti GenAI (something Kagi isn't), only centered on search, and source available (not Open Source unfortuantely). Anyone has used it or has information on the service and the people behind it? https://uruky.com/

🎉 Wow, a search engine that promises not to stalk you like a jilted ex! 🙄 Finally, a solution for those who want to Google in the Witness Protection Program. 🙌 Uruky: because nothing screams #privacy like signing up for "no emails" with your email! 😂
