  1. ok @Vivaldi I just installed the browser on 3 different machines: linux laptop, android phone, windows desktop. In less than four hours:

    1. Took me 90 mins to set up and required how-tos (wtaf)
    2. Syncing between devices does not actually sync anything of value: no workspaces, no open tabs, no reading list
    3. I managed to crash the browser (windows desktop) by dragging a tab to open in a separate window (wtf)
    4. 1password has issues & the 2FA is not time synced which means it does not work.
    5. Tried to share a tab from Android phone to Linux laptop: nothing. No pop up on laptop (I was in front of it), no error on phone. Nothing.

I know I get what I pay for, but for such a hyped up browser, the functionality is zero.

  2. Tip #814

Make the right choice between closing and deleting Tab Stacks on mobile.

Tab Stacks in Vivaldi on Android and iOS can be both closed and deleted. Though it sounds like they should do the same thing, there is an important differences between them.

Closing a stack will remove the group of tabs from the Tab Bar and the open tabs view in the Tab Switcher, but it will keep the stack available in the Tab Stacks view in the Tab Switcher. That way you can declutter your actively used tabs view, but easily access the stack again whenever you need it.

Deleting a stack, expectedly, will actually delete the stack and close all tabs in it. But if you deleted the stack when you meant to close it, you can still recover the tabs for a while from the Closed Tabs view in the Tab Switcher or from History.

  6. On a functional question...

Can anyone who uses @Vivaldi on an #Android device tell me how I can close *and reopen* tab groups? I feel I'm being dense.

Firefox forks save "tab groups" as "Collections" of bookmarks, which is a close enough for now. But I don't want to close a Vivaldi tab group and lose the tabs either.

  10. Just arrived today and I'm genuinely amazed! 🔥
My Vivaldi cap and full sticker pack finally showed up.
The quality is excellent, the logo looks sharp as hell, and the stickers are just pure joy.

Now I’m fully prepared for the inevitable questions at work:
    "What’s that logo?"
    “Where can I get this?”
    “Is this browser actually good?”

Yes, it's good. Yes, you should try it.
And yes - I already have all the answers ready 😄

If you're tired of being the product, give @Vivaldi a chance. It's one of the last browsers that still feels made with love.

  16. I have this funny habit of holding onto my internet history - I just love knowing exactly when I created my accounts across the web. While digging through some old emails today, I found an absolute gem.

Here is my original registration email for my vivaldi.net account, dated January 30, 2015. I looked it up, and Vivaldi's very first Technical Preview was released to the public on January 27, 2015. I signed up literally three days after they launched!

It is crazy to think I have been with them for over 11 years now. Watching Vivaldi grow from that very first preview build into the powerhouse it is today has been such a cool ride. Proud to be a Day One user!

  18. I was just reading a great piece on how the browser wars shaped the internet (hackernoon.com/how-the-browser), and it hit me with a massive wave of nostalgia.

I had been using Opera since my school days. The classic Presto-engine Opera was truly ahead of its time. Does anyone else remember Opera Turbo, Opera Unite, Opera Link, and the original Speed Dial? The competitors had nothing even close to that back then. Yes, websites occasionally broke because of the different engine, but I absolutely loved that browser, even if I couldn't always explain why.

When the original Opera essentially ended with version 12.18, it was a sad moment. But the second I heard about @Vivaldi launching, I immediately jumped on their first Technical Previews. I was so relieved that the spirit of the old Opera didn't actually die - it just reformatted and got a new name.

I have followed them ever since, and lately, I've been using Vivaldi a lot more actively. I cannot recommend it enough.
It is incredibly convenient and customizable, exactly like the good old Opera. I am even planning to buy some of their merch to support the team and spread the word.

If you are looking for an alternative, just give it a try. Even though it uses the same Chromium engine under the hood, the experience is infinitely better than Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

  20. Receiving this reply from the @Vivaldi team was unexpectedly uplifting. It is rare for a simple developer response to bring this much genuine joy.

I have been a fan since the classic Opera days, and honestly, I still deeply miss the Presto engine. But seeing Vivaldi not just survive, but remain highly competitive in today's monopolized browser market, is truly inspiring.

The people behind this project are absolute geniuses and I sincerely hope they continue to grow, thrive, and capture the significant market share they deserve. This is exactly why supporting independent, user-focused tech is so important.

  22. Tip #805

Choose your Tab Stack style for Vivaldi on iOS.

With the Accordion-style Tab Stacks, all stacked tabs are on the same level as regular unstacked tabs and the stack expands as needed to display tabs in it. Alternatively, with Two-Level Tab Stacks, your stacks sit in the top row of the Tab Bar, and the tabs inside that stack appear in the row below. The second row only appears when you’re inside a stack.

To choose your Tab Stack style:

    1. Go to Settings > Tabs > Tab Stacking Style.
    2. Choose between Accordion and Two-Level Tab Stacks.

  26. Tip #803

Get a new Start Page look on mobile every day with Daily Images.

When you open a new tab in Vivaldi on Android or iOS, you likely see the Start Page with your favorite Speed Dials. To give the Start Page some character, set a unique background for it. You can go for an image from the defaults, use your own image, or get a new automatically updated photo every day from Unsplash.

To enable Daily Images on mobile, either:

    • Go to Settings > Start Page > Wallpaper and enable “Use Daily Image”.
    • Tap on “Customize” at the bottom of the Start Page and enable “Use Daily Image”.

  27. Der Vivaldi Browser hat mich in letzter Zeit so gecatcht, dass ich diesen nun auch auf der Arbeit nutze. Für mich ist dieser Webbrowser nicht von dieser Welt. 28. Tip #799

Use drag and drop to reorder Tiled Tabs.

Viewing multiple tabs side by side in the same Vivaldi browser window can significantly boost your productivity. By default, tiles follow the order of the tabs on your Tab Bar, but if that doesn’t work well, you can easily rearrange them.

    To reorder Tiled Tabs:

    1. Click on a tiled tab’s title bar in the tiled view and start dragging.
    2. Drag it to the middle of another tiled tab.
    3. When you see “Move tile here”, release the mouse button.

  31. Tip #792

Open the Tab Switcher in Vivaldi on iOS with a swipe on the Address Bar.

Whenever you want to get a good overview of all your standard, private, synced, etc. tabs, the Tab Switcher is the place to go.

To enable Address Bar swipe gesture:

    1. Go to Settings > Address Bar > Address Field Options.
    2. Toggle on “Enable Address Bar Swipe Gesture”.

Once the setting is enabled, all you need to do is swipe from the Address Bar towards the page to open the Tab Switcher. In other words, swipe down when the Address Bar is at the top and swipe up when the Address Bar is at the bottom of the screen.

  32. There is much to like about the #VivaldiBrowser but it not cooperating with my password manager ( #ProtonPass ) is kind of a dealbreaker. It seems to have been an issue for a while for a lot of users. I guess I will keep using it along with #BraveBrowser for a while to give it a fair shake, but they really need to fix this.

  40. @Vivaldi #VivaldiBrowser Is it just me…. the ⌥ ⌘B keyboard shortcut in the Vivaldi web browser is supposed to open the Bookmarks page, but for me it does nothing, nada, zilch.

I’ve looked it all OS / App settings I can think of and I can't see any conflicts with macOS / Apps at all, it just doesn't work.
The only way it works is if I click on it with the trackpad.

I've even tried to execute the shortcut via Keyboard Maestro or Apple Script, still nothing.

If you are running Vivaldi on an Apple Mac can you please advise if it works for you?
If you have an idea as to what may be breaking it then please yell out.
If you can boost this post it'd be appreciated.

  41. Tip #787

Restrict pinned tabs to the current site.

Pinning tabs allows you to keep your most-used tabs open and available in the same location at all times. But that doesn’t prevent you from straying from the originally pinned site. To make sure your pinned tabs stays on the site, you can restrict browsing in that tab to the pinned domain.

To keep the Pinned Tabs locked to the same domain:

    1. Right-click on the pinned tab.
    2. Select Restrict Pinned Tab to Current Site.

When enabled, all links from the same domain will open in the pinned tab and all links from other domains will open in new regular tabs.

When you’re done with a project that you created a Workspace for in Vivaldi it’s time to reuse it for a new project, or if there are currently no new projects, just delete it.

    To reuse a Workspace:

    1. Open the Workspaces menu.
    2. Right-click on the one you want update.
    3. Select “Edit Workspace” from the context menu.
    4. Give it a new name and select a new icon.
    5. Click “Done”.
    6. Close all tabs in the Workspace.

    To delete a Workspace:

    1. Open the Workspaces menu.
    2. Right-click on the Workspace you want update.
    3. Select “Delete Workspace”.

Deleting a Workspace will also close all tabs in it. If you want to keep some tabs around, move the tabs first or reopen them from the Closed Tabs menu.
