Всё началось с принтера. Точнее — с 1700 рублей, типографии на Театральной и фотографии моря в Абхазии. Кадр был невероятный: бирюзовая вода, низкое солнце, плачущие эвкалипты, и такой цвет, что хотелось окунуться в дисплей. Я выбрал баритовую бумагу, хотел потом вставить в рамку. Прождал сорок минут в очереди и... На выходе грязно-голубая лужа. Нормальный человек сказал бы «плохая типография» и пошёл дальше. Но у меня профдеформация, я полез дебажить цвет. И через пару вечеров кроличьей норы и экспериментов на коленке я знал о мониторах столько, что мне стало физически некомфортно на них смотреть.

Всем привет! Представляю вашему вниманию третью часть цикла статей по мотивам лекций курса по алгоритмам вычислительной фотографии, которые я, Егор Ершов, руководитель группы «Цветовая вычислительная фотография» в AIRI и заведующий сектором репродукции и синтеза цвета ИППИ РАН, читаю для студентов МФТИ и ВШЭ. Мы начали с того, что попытались ответить на вопрос о том, как сделать так, чтобы снимок нашей камеры в точности уловил всю красоту пейзажа, а также как воспроизвести эту красоту на экране, проекторе или фотобумаге. На этом пути мы уже обсудили первую математическую модель формирования изображения и стандарты CIE 1931 года . Сегодня мы поговорим о явлениях и эффектах, важных для цветовосприятия, но не учитываемых описанными моделями. Мы посмотрим на попытки инженеров хоть как‑то их унифицировать, и в целом окинем взором всё многообразие современных цветовых стандартов, уделив особое внимание sRGB. Приятного чтения!

I guess this was it I can no longer use kitty, after the lastest version kitty is explicity requiring sRGB color encoding. My poor old video card doesn't have sRGB support, I'm fairly certain even before this change the colors was displayed incorrectly. Not that I cared that much about sRGB ever.
It's just another thing that I can't use in this old system, at least I have xterm that I used as a backup terminal emulator up until now that was also a requirement to have for my window manager xmonad.
Not that I don't like to xterm but I really liked kitty, plus it was the only GPU accelerated terminal emulator that I was able to use. -

Since COLR (v0) fonts have their colours specified in sRGB colour space (insert *oh sure jan* meme), harfbuzz hb-view should make PNG files with sRGB chunk.

But when it’s RGB, you usually get an embedded profile. (Also works in Safari, wouldn’t expect that anywhere else though.)
#sRGB is overrated.Over time… you see things… at some point, one just gives up wondering.

Now that looks nice. It doesn't look like "anti-aliasing," just smooth period.
I modified my engine so that it does everything in linear color. Simple and fast. I use a lookup table to convert colors.

[Перевод] Инструмент подбора красок для покраски миниатюр. Часть 1: теория
Эта короткая статья посвящена приблизительному описанию того, что происходит в моём инструменте для смешивания красок. Инструмент предназначен для виртуального смешения красок, он содержит солвер, генерирующий рецепты для создания цвета из имеющихся красок. Инструмент поставляется с замеренными мной данными для красок Kimera. Он написан на Python 3; в репозитории есть все исходники, и если у вас есть дистрибутив Python, то его можно просто запустить. Также в репозитории есть исполняемый файл Windows, созданный при помощи PyInstaller (см. раздел Releases справа). Ещё я добавил версию для Mac; это файл .dmg и в нём что-то есть, а если нажать на него, инструмент запустится, так что, кажется, всё работает. Но, честно говоря, я редко пользуюсь Mac, поэтому мне сложно сказать, есть ли там всё нужное, или требуется что-то ещё... Вы можете просто скачать инструмент и экспериментировать с ним. Развлекайтесь, надеюсь, он покажется вам хоть немного полезным. Ниже представлено более-менее полное описание его работы (и условия, при которых он не работает).

I've had one foot stuck in this #DCI-P3 #ColorSpace rabbit hole for days. Found a simple test page for browser support: https://www.wide-gamut.com/test
But even in iOS Safari it did not show #P3 support... Last night I found out why - my #DarkReader extension blocked it. Disable DarkReader and the differences from #sRGB are obvious. (Safari's native Reader Mode allows P3, but it breaks a bit of the page content.) Other iOS browsers also support P3. No Windows or Linux browsers I tried can.
