I've always pronounced #GIF with a hard "G" because the G stands for Graphics.

But I was today years old before I realised that, by the same logic, #JPEG should be pronounced "jay-pheg" because the P stands for "Photographic".

So now, for self-consistency, I guess I'm going to start pronouncing JPEG "jay-pheg".

I just merged a nice patch by Richard Allen for @GIMP's JPEG import plug-in.

With a recent enough libjpeg-turbo (most used JPEG lib), loading 8-bit JPEG through the 12-bit pipeline brings huge quality benefits.

It comes at the expense of all JPEG being loaded as 16-bit per channel, which means bigger files. Yet the qualitative difference is making this change a no-brainer.
Loading as 8bpc then converting to 16bpc, you already lost data (unlike loading directly as 16bpc).

Как оно будет звучать?» Спойлер: иногда — удивительно хорошо. Иногда — как из унитаза. Но всегда — интересно. Hey @gianni I was just chatting with @yawnbox about a wild range of tech things, and, since I am starting to host an Immich instance in my home, I am considering to convert all my emails to JPEG XL, and I was wondering if there is a way to do so without risking to lose any metadata.

I am happy to read any links you might have but I need them to be as simple as possible because encoding/decoding stuff confuses me a lot. Not my thing… This is why I found your article explaining how AV1 works in simple words absolutely illuminating! Anyway, I just want to save storage space.

Also, I am a big big fan of Aviator, and I have been following your work for a while. Thanks so much for all of it!

Il y a une version transparente et l'autre avec blanc à l'intérieur au cas pour les impressions sur fond foncé. Je crois que #Qlub gère bien ce format d'image contrairement à #meta qui comprime tout en #jpeg comme un sauvage 🤪 . Comon, Mark! haha
