  1. I can't get my computer to recognize my second #display. I'm running #Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS on a Minisforum UM890 Pro with an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS and Radeon™ 780M Graphics × 16. There are 64GB of memory. The second display is a EVICIV 13.3" EVC-1301 that always worked fine with my Mac Mini and my MacBook. It's connected with a cord that is #Displayport on the PC side and #HDMI on the display side. I also tried it with USB4 to USB4. [EDIT] Problem solved!

  2. I never would've expected "Neo" as an #Apple product name but #MacBookNeo is looking like it's set to be a market share disruptor. Without any student discount, without any #Shopee sales and whatnot, the Neo's just 2499 MYR lol. That's fucking ridiculous, when #Windows laptops with half the capability and a quarter of the build quality would at least cost 3-3.5k MYR.

    I still think the
#MacBookAir is better value if you could afford it (hard not to, when ~1-3 gen older Airs go for 3k or less brand new, pretty often), but, these Neos are such a sweet deal if u tryna save a lil bit more money or buy in bulk or something for schools/offices. As the tech guy of my family and friends, this laptop is such an easy recommend (assuming that I deem them able to work around #macOS 's weird quirks).

    Notable specs:

    - A18 Pro
#ARM chip (what a flex, same chip as the #iPhone 16 Pro and it's more capable than Apple's M1)

    - 8GB RAM (expected, since other Macs have been upgraded to min of 16GB for a while now - and perfectly sufficient on macOS)

    - 256GB SSD (not a lot but it's never not been enough on my own Macs even as a dev)

    - 1080p webcam

    - WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 6

    The only downsides:

    - Instead of
#Thunderbolt/#USB4 ports, it only has 1x USB-3 (charging, data, #DisplayPort) and 1x USB-2 port (charging, data) - this is a slight bummer and USB-2 in this day and age on a laptop is a little weird and confusing, should've both been USB-3, but at least its USB-3 port is capable of DP

    - No
#TouchID unless you get the 512GB SSD model - prolly not a big deal

    - Keyboard isn't backlit I believe, but yea not something I've ever used

    - NOT a haptic trackpad u might be familiar with on other MacBooks - prolly the biggest deal to me, but to some reviewers who've tested it out, it's not functionally different?

  7. I couldn't sleep last night so I wrote an an extremely simple IOS app allowing an iPhone 17 Pro to display the web browser in the native resolution of an external display.

Then I discovered artificial limitations with keyboard and mouse input on an external display.

I figured having a pocket-able thin-client with wireless input and wearable displays was a solved case based on the technology stack.

I wrote a perhaps snarky feature request in Apple's community support forum - which got removed.

    Wrote a nicer version here:

    Any advice on next steps?
