  1. I have not been following developments in the #GPU market but have GPU manufacturers started putting USB-C ports on their GPUs?

Because it would be very cool if they did. Then USB-C could really become the everything port and you could plug in your Monitors using USB-C too.

This would also be great to finally end HDMI and replace it with DisplayPort since it's the better standard in many ways.

  2. Ich hab 'ne Linux-Büchse mit Displayport und einen alten Fernseher mit HDMI. Bekomme ich über ein demensprechendes Kabel oder einen Adapter auch Audio zum Fernseher?

  7. I followed the instructions on how to install the #DisplayPort driver on #Ubuntu, but it made no difference. I just wrote to #Minisforum support. Hopefully they can help me. I don't like having to use that precious USB4 port on the front panel for a display, when there is a port on the back that is literally called "DisplayPort."

  8. I can't get my computer to recognize my second #display. I'm running #Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS on a Minisforum UM890 Pro with an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS and Radeon™ 780M Graphics × 16. There are 64GB of memory. The second display is a EVICIV 13.3" EVC-1301 that always worked fine with my Mac Mini and my MacBook. It's connected with a cord that is #Displayport on the PC side and #HDMI on the display side. I also tried it with USB4 to USB4. [EDIT] Problem solved!

  12. I never would've expected "Neo" as an #Apple product name but #MacBookNeo is looking like it's set to be a market share disruptor. Without any student discount, without any #Shopee sales and whatnot, the Neo's just 2499 MYR lol. That's fucking ridiculous, when #Windows laptops with half the capability and a quarter of the build quality would at least cost 3-3.5k MYR.

    I still think the
#MacBookAir is better value if you could afford it (hard not to, when ~1-3 gen older Airs go for 3k or less brand new, pretty often), but, these Neos are such a sweet deal if u tryna save a lil bit more money or buy in bulk or something for schools/offices. As the tech guy of my family and friends, this laptop is such an easy recommend (assuming that I deem them able to work around #macOS 's weird quirks).

    Notable specs:

    - A18 Pro
#ARM chip (what a flex, same chip as the #iPhone 16 Pro and it's more capable than Apple's M1)

    - 8GB RAM (expected, since other Macs have been upgraded to min of 16GB for a while now - and perfectly sufficient on macOS)

    - 256GB SSD (not a lot but it's never not been enough on my own Macs even as a dev)

    - 1080p webcam

    - WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 6

    The only downsides:

    - Instead of
#Thunderbolt/#USB4 ports, it only has 1x USB-3 (charging, data, #DisplayPort) and 1x USB-2 port (charging, data) - this is a slight bummer and USB-2 in this day and age on a laptop is a little weird and confusing, should've both been USB-3, but at least its USB-3 port is capable of DP

    - No
#TouchID unless you get the 512GB SSD model - prolly not a big deal

    - Keyboard isn't backlit I believe, but yea not something I've ever used

    - NOT a haptic trackpad u might be familiar with on other MacBooks - prolly the biggest deal to me, but to some reviewers who've tested it out, it's not functionally different?

  17. Dear people, does there exist such a thing as a to adapter? I have an elderly machine that only has VGA, and my KVM only has Displayport. The usual suppliers of cheap electronic tat are only advertising DP-to-VGA adapters, and I'm not convinced that cheap electronic tat will convert in the direction I need. I definitely don't need high resolution or ridiculous refresh rates - this is VGA, and I'm not an video gamer.

  20. Thought my old Monoprice 27" monitor had bitten the dust. But it was just a bent DisplayPort cable terminal! Phew!

I rue the thought of having to replace this with a newer monitor with only a hint of a bevel. My decade+ old monitor has bevels for days! Plenty of room for command hooks and hanging all my doo-dads & Casio watches around it.

  21. If you are not aware:

    ⚠️ HDMI is not Linux-friendly
The HDMI Forum ❌ rejects open-source implementations of HDMI 2.1.
This is hostility toward Linux and open source, not a technical limitation.

    ✅ Use DisplayPort instead !

  22. @jolla Is it already known whether the new #jollaphone will support USB-C #altmode to connect a #displayport/#hdmi adapter? #jolla

  23. HDMI is a terrible port & HDMI 2.1 will not support open source!!! Please everyone switch to the superior (mini) DisplayPort or USB-C (TB3/USB4) ASAP

(Even DP 1.2 would be better than any HDMI 1.4)

  24. Since my old #TV is dying I am looking for a new #television this black friday. I am currently doing a final check for some of the most interesting offers. And one thing I noticed only now is that apparently #Hisense #65U8Q has a #DisplayPort input 😍 Not mentioned in specs on the product page or on DisplaySpecifications web page. Just shown on one photo, and I found a YT video testing it. Looks like an awesome TV for a #Linux PC with #AMD #Radeon GPU ( #HDMI Forum does not allow 2.1 support).
