  1. Currently in the middle of my #CCNA revisions. Finally got my hands on a #Cisco 2960 to have some fun with real equipment and move away from Packet Tracer.

    I just rebuilt my homelab architecture. It's a classic but effective setup: #OPNsense firewall, managed switch, and multiple VLANs

    I documented the whole topology, IPAM, and some troubleshooting steps on my personal wiki.

    ### Технические новости и релизы
    * **Оптимизация маршрутизации (v0.5.12+):** В последних патчах (февраль–апрель 2026) разработчики внедрили улучшенный алгоритм выбора пути. Теперь система минимизирует не только «стоимость» линка, но и дистанцию до цели в дереве топологии. Это исправляет старую проблему, когда пакеты могли идти длинным путем через «корень», игнорируя более быстрые прямые маршруты.
    * **Быстрое восстановление:** Параметр maxbackoff (время ожидания перед повторной попыткой подключения к пиру) теперь можно снижать до **5 секунд** (раньше было минимум 30). Это критично для мобильных узлов и нестабильных mesh-соединений.
    * **Ресурсоемкость:** Оптимизировано потребление памяти при расчете путей, что позволяет протоколу стабильнее работать на слабых роутерах и одноплатниках (типа Orange Pi/Raspberry Pi).
    ### Главный вызов: «Гонка вооружений» за корень
    Одной из самых обсуждаемых проблем сообщества в 2026 году стала нестабильность сети из-за появления мощных узлов с очень «сильными» ключами (high addressed root).
    * **Проблема:** Когда кто-то генерирует ключ, претендующий на роль корня всей сети, но имеет при этом плохую связность или нестабильный канал, это «раскачивает» всю глобальную топологию.
    * **Решение в v0.6:** Разработчики подтвердили, что в следующей версии (v0.6) дизайн **spanning tree** будет радикально изменен, чтобы лишить смысла попытки захватить роль корня и сделать сеть более устойчивой к таким колебаниям.
    ### Текущее состояние (Status Quo)
    1. **Overlay-сеть:** Yggdrasil по-прежнему работает преимущественно как криптографическая сеть поверх интернета (IPv4/IPv6), обеспечивая сквозное шифрование.
    2. **Стабильность:** Проект официально в статусе **Alpha**, но фактически признан сообществом достаточно стабильным для повседневного использования (SSH, локальные сервисы, мессенджеры).
    3. **Платформы:** Поддерживаются практически все ОС (Linux, Windows, macOS, Android, iOS), а также прошивки OpenWrt и Ubiquiti.

    Went to the library and there's an AT&T truck between it and City Hall, fiber trunks on the ground.

    Friends, I used to work on Pier 39 (best office) and Every Time an AT&T van would show up at the box across Embarcadero, the pier would lose Net and everyone showed up in My Office (Lawyers office, Architects, Incubator downstairs, and the Kyak Rental).

    Finally I threatened to chain the AT&T guy to something heavy and drop him off the pier. No more problem.

If you want to get a server or an IP address of IPv6-only, will you try to do it and adapt to this evolving world?   35. This morning I successfully converted my internal DNS to corp.avvira.us. I’m glad that I read about the whole problematic fake internal domain thing yesterday because that could rear its ugly head. I also learned about something very important. I made yet another mistake in my planning.

    I’ve never designed anything that would ever grow beyond a /22 or 1022 hosts on a network. Now I find myself in a situation where I have to plan for a case where this could happen: my own business. So I read up more carefully on variable length subnet masking. Apparently, you have to estimate what your largest subnet size will be and then carve up from there. So again I planned poorly with thinking I’d just carve up 172.16.0.0/12 into a whole bunch of /24s. That would leave a large and inefficient routing table.

    So it’s better to think this one through carefully. I’m seeing this now. It might make sense instead to carve this up into several /18s, and from there, further divide into smaller units as needed here and there. I guess I need someone with more advanced #NetworkEngineering experience than I have. Feel free to weigh in on this.

  39. I have a very weird issue with my #tailscale + #mumble server setup:

    I have a murmur (mumble) server that binds to the tailscale interface on my server.

    I have shared that endpoint with a friend and we're both connecting via tailscale to that mumble server to talk.

    Every few minutes (3, 5, something like that), one of us gets reconnected. Mumble (client) says "Server failed to respond to TCP ping". On the server it says (murmur log): "Connection closed: The remote host closed the connection".

    The tailscale log on the server says something like "adding connection to derp-* for ..." at that very moment of reconnecting.

    How to debug this issue? I don't even know where to start. It looks like (to me, as a networking noob) that tailscale reconfigures connections and breaks the mumble connection.
