You plan the trip around restaurants and hotels — not the roads that get you there.
Steve Clayton from Cisco makes a brilliant point: AI is the same. The network is invisible infrastructure most people never think about, but without it? Nothing works.
We take it for granted until it's gone.

"AI, as exciting as it is, simply doesn’t happen without the network."
— Steve Clayton, SVP & Chief Communications Officer, Cisco
It reminds us that every AI breakthrough relies on a robust network backbone.

Steve Clayton from Cisco joins us to discuss why narrative, not tech, is the scarce resource in the AI age — as models outpace what enterprises can absorb. Real AI scaling starts with credible stories from the field, not HQ, and depends on networks: “Take your phone and switch it into airplane mode….”

AI's magic doesn't happen without the network. Like a phone in airplane mode, enterprise AI needs connectivity to scale. Steve Clayton (Cisco) explains why narrative—not tech—is the scarce asset in the AI age. Field stories beat HQ spin every time.

Steve Clayton from Cisco joins us to talk scaling AI in enterprises. He says the scarce resource isn’t creativity but attention – the narrative that earns it. We explore Cisco’s story from the field, plus silicon and quantum networking. “Switch your phone to airplane mode – very little works. AI won’t happen without the network.” Listen: https://www.analysepodcast.com/attention-is-the-scarce-resource-not-creativity-in-the-age-of-ai-with-steve-clayton/ #AI #Narrative #Cisco

I was a Webex user from their very early days in the corporate space. I always had a fine experience. Then came Zoom and its explosion during the pandemic. And most companies running to MS Teams for meetings (including mine.) Zoom wasn't as polished and was kind of obnoxious in its early usability.
When I joined our nonprofit it was a Zoom org and I grew to tolerate it but always longed for pre-pandemic Webex. A year or so ago we lost our complimentary Zoom accounts from a sponsor. Webex was a little less expensive so we went with them.
WELL. For those who haven't used Webex in a handful of years, it's as obnoxious or worse than Zoom was in its early days. I'm so disappointed. This is a great example of Cisco buying something and hanging it out to dry.

Attention is the scarce resource, not creativity, with Steve Clayton. 🧵
Cisco’s SVP @SteveClaton on why narrative is the true asset in the AI era. You can’t just scale tech; you have to scale stories. Silicon and quantum networking are fascinating, but the real work happens on the ground.
Take your phone out of airplane mode. Very little happens without the network.

New episode with Steve Clayton, Cisco's SVP & Chief Comms Officer. His take: as AI floods us with content, attention becomes the scarce resource — not creativity. Winners? Those who tell credible stories.
We dig into why narrative tops the AI pyramid, why regional beats HQ assumptions, and why AI needs the network.

I don't know that I've seen Cisco do this before?
I'm sure cisco telling us a week ahead of time that some sort of patch is coming out for a bevy of products is totally fine and not at all a sign that these products have one or more 10.0 score trivially exploitable vulns in them.

New episode: Steve Clayton from Cisco joins us on AI at scale. His take? Attention is now scarcer than creativity — storytelling becomes the differentiator when models flood us with content.
We also dig into why truth lives in the field, not HQ, and why "AI simply doesn't happen without the network."
