Re today’s Telstra outage, there seems to be some circularity involved: I’m with ALDImobile which uses Telstra & just realised that since Sunday I’ve been getting doubles of every ALDImobile message, separated by 2 to 10 minutes (estimate, don’t have accurate times). This is not normal & hasn’t happened in the past. 🤔
Coverage strength has also been unusually weak (sitting on 1 bar more than 2 bars which is the max I ever get) - ever since the last telco outage a few weeks or month ago. 🫤Sorry for anyone critically dependent on the network. It’s made me realise how much I rely on it for everything & how so much of what I do, how I use it, is just-in-time with no redundancy or alternatives. 🙀

Oh.. Telstra fault looks like core network issue! It seems a heap of prefixes (blocks of Telstra network addresses) just got updated through different routes at 3am (i.e. the Internet suddenly realised they can't reach parts of Telstra so there was a mad scramble to find alternate routes!)
So probably NOT BGP (this time!), but definitely a big issue on some core routing/signalling infrastructure!
