Один DNS‑запрос породил 329 запросов. Я полез разбираться, куда они все ушли
Один DNS‑запрос. Пустой кеш. И 329 исходящих запросов вслед за ним. Сначала я решил, что где‑то неправильно понял цифры. Потом полез разбираться и выяснил, что recursive resolver внутри делает намного больше работы, чем видно по обычному dig . Разбираю, откуда берутся эти сотни запросов, при чём здесь CNAME, glue, DNSSEC, IPv6 PTR и почему разные версии BIND на одном и том же запросе могут отличаться почти в три раза.

@meuon 👏 👏. So called cloud providers has taken away the joy in doing things old school. This annoyance is what made me come with a secondary dns service. Run your zone even at home on a raspberry pi if you have ipv6 or ipv4 if you are lucky. Just send us axfr and we replicate your zone. https://anyzone.org #dns #axfr #secondarydns #ipv6 #raspberrypi

For those relying on #IPv6 in production and using long uptime systemd-networkd, there is an integer overflow bug in some versions where the RA assignment will flap every five minutes following 497 days of uptime.
This is fixed in v250 but does NOT appear to have been backported to Ubuntu 22.04 which is exposed to this. Fix is in:
commit 16bc8635d551f73cdd9cf5c9d452f3ad9c34e9e4 from Oct 21 2021 ("network: address: use usec_t for handling lifetime")

Fyi, if you need IPs for your #HomeLab I'd recommend looking at https://hostiko.com.ua/
They're so far the only cloud provider where I got an active/active #IPv4 AND #IPv6 uplink via BGP on the cheapest VPSes they sell.
So basically get yourself a few cheap VPSes and then open a ticket asking for BGP (you'll need a bit of money in the account, they charged me a setup fee and they also charged for the first few months).
That way nobody can DDOS your actual ISP IPs and you've static public IPs.

So basically get yourself a few cheap VPSes and then open a ticket asking for BGP (you'll need a bit of money in the account, they charged me a setup fee and they also charged for the first few months).

In the Opener Initiative, we collaborate on implementing the #DectNRPlus standard.
The standard provides license-free radio (no cellular operators) in the 1.9GHz band, with all bells and whistles of a 5G radio standard for #IoT applications.
In Opener, we are working on a portable #FLOSS stack from the bottom up. Joining forces where possible, the hophop project builds on @ariel and starts top-down to provide efficient #IPv6 connectivity for DECT NR+ connected devices.

I've found that lynx and wget won't resolve IPv6 addresses from hostnames, and curl won't work at all (these are SGUG pre-compiled binaries). But hey, I'm loving it.

- Elite: Dangerous (disabled by default, but IPv4 can also be disabled)
- World of Warcraft (disabled by default)
- Guild Wars 2 (no IPv6 support)

This might be counting chickens before they've hatched but on the Frontier FIOS network in Connecticut I've just been able to receive an IPv6 prefix delegation from the upstream router! It's only a /64, I need something a bit larger, but this will do as a starting point. Maybe this means the Frontier network is starting to getreconfigured to the way the Verizon network is, after the acquisition was completed late last year.

Note to self: Just don't touch #ipsec. It's shit all way round and always breaks. Just use something else.
Why?
Every time I want an encrypted tunnel between two public IPs I think like "oh yea, using IPSec here would be easy and straight forward".
And then it never fucking works reliably. And if it does work it stops to work the next time you try to apply the exact same config. And it fails with shit like this...
What have I done wrong?!? Why work sometimes??

Improvement suggestion for #ipv6, when you've configured a non /128 prefix on an interface (e.g. 2001:DB8::1234/56)
then that should allow you to configure any of these IPs as if it was configured on the interface (similar to how 127.0.0.0/8 is being handled). And the OS should automatically start to reply to NDP packages for that IP too (until it is no longer bound to a socket).
And it also should automatically do ND-Proxy when a longer prefix is configured on another interface...
