I bought many #IoT devices. Most of them have now integrated their own #AI into the apps. Thank GOD most are #Matter or #Zigbee !

News to devs of #iot devices: If you include your AI in MY devices when they didn't have them before I bought them, I'll uninstall your apps and just use #Hubitat with them!

Man… #Tapo is just shit and #TPLink just makes crappy hardware and software.

You see… Yet again, their Smart Wifi Plug, which is #Matter over #WiFi, started reporting insane power numbers on a pretty weak Dyson vacuum charger…

To a point it has dominated all the energy graphs in #HomeAssistant… It is also for some unknown reason reseting it self and dropping old entities, while creating new entities in the same HA device.

Replaced it with Matter over #Thread #Ikea #GRILLPLATS…

I wanted to go to IKEA next week to buy some smart bulbs (and some other stuff, candles mostly) for the remainder of my lamps which don’t have them yet. Unfortunately they are all Matter/Thread only now and the ones I have already were Zigbee (like the rest of nearly all my smartphone devices) and my ZBT-1 (my Zigbee router for Home Assistant) can’t be used for both at the same time, only for either Zigbee or Matter/Thread.

I guess I will buy the new ZBT-2 to run that as my Matter/Thread router and keep the old one for Zigbee to have backwards compatibility. And I will also slowly migrate to Matter? I don’t know. I don’t like having so many different technologies. At least now they seem to have compromised on a standard and are keeping that (hopefully).

Wochenendaktivität abgeschlossen. Über 70 Smarthome-Geräte sind jetzt mit Matter verbunden. Viel weniger WLAN-Last. IKEA Tradfri, Fritzbox und Home Assistant Green. Ging einfacher als gedacht. Tür- und Fenstersensoren, Heizung, Taster, Temperaturfühler, Ventilatoren, TV, Soundbar, Lichter, Bewegungsmelder. Bis ich die älteren Tradfri LED-Lampen eingebunden hatte. Yes. I think the social cost is real and shouldn’t be brushed aside.

Leaving Meta can mean losing casual contact, invitations, groups, and people who simply won’t follow you elsewhere.

I don’t think the answer is to pretend that it doesn’t matter.

For me, the question is whether the cost of staying eventually outweighs the cost of leaving.

And that is something each of us has to decide for ourselves.

Is there any way to connect #Matter devices to my #HomeAssistant without Google services on my phone ? I'd have a plain Android and Linux available for free choice. Seems like the official docs tell you to just log in to a Google account on your phone.

Finally finally finally managed to move the sensor to the Arduino Nano Matter and got it to show up in Home Assistant. Getting Thread & Matter to work was … painful and involved a lot of re-pairing/“commissioning”.

Gonna clean up the ~50 lines of code an put it on Codeberg later.
