This is a perfect demonstration of two different issues that @lauren talks about.

    First, the post itself:

A simple, everyday action that predictably occurs in the real world, because #people are messy and imperfect and make mistakes and bad decisions. A 14-year-old boy does something stupid related to hormones: boy, that's never happened before! Why would we expect that?

Google's #algorithms detect it as CSAM or similar - you can argue this is a false detection or not. Predictable and predicted.

#Google immediately locks not just the account that the kid was using, but every other account that uses the same device. Call it what you will - collateral damage. The whole family loses #access to everything - photos, business stuff, website, email, and more. Again, #predictable and #predicted.

The users find themselves trying to #appeal to recover their access, and Google's systems make it impossible. You can't contact a human. There is no #escalation from the machine's judgment. If you don't know someone inside Google and can't get your story on the front pages, you're just #boned. Lauren *rails* against this dereliction by Google, demonstrated time and time again.

Then, the thread of replies is chock-full of presumably-technophile people laughing at the #victims and saying "You had backups, right? Ahahaha" and "Why would you give all that info to Google, stupid?" and similar. Near- #sociopathic lack of #concern for others. Lauren's right here, too.

    We must do better.

  7. White folks who try to say POC are mentally unwell when we stand up for ourselves are one of the first to be fucking nuked. They pull this shit a lot. It's super predictable, after we call their asses out in public.

You're the mentally unwell ones who lack fucking empathy for POC who have dealt with far too much unnecessary racial violence from your shithead white friends. You're the ones truly fucked in the head.

  19. @Sir_Osis_of_Liver @tod

I'm not a Facebook shill; I detest Facebook and always have; I have never had an account. I would be perfectly happy to drop Zuckerberg into whichever of Hawaii's volcanoes is closest to his private estate.

I'm also not defending Google - I don't use their services and don't have an account there, either.

What I'm saying is that this outcome was both #predictable - it doesn't make #financial sense to pay to link - and #predicted. Acting shocked now is #disingenuous.

  20. @CrazyITGuy42

Exactly. Remember in #Memento, when they did the #experiments on Sammy Jankis, giving him electric shocks to see if he ever learned to avoid those objects even though he couldn't make memories normally?

Our government is Sammy Jankis. Minus Stephen #Tobolowsky's charm.

I said many, many times that this #outcome was #predictable, and many, many people in fact #predicted it.

    And now Canada's #government and #Dinosaur #Media are #shocked.

    #StephenTobolowsky #SammyJankis

  21. @taco

All of this was both #predictable, and #predicted. From the moment C-18 was announced, it was obvious to many, many people that this would have exactly these negative effects on #Canadian #publishers/#sites.

But no-one listened. In fact, most of them still refuse to listen.

I'm tired of #politicians preening for the cameras without a care in the world for the #consequences of their actions - which mainly fall on others, not them.

  24. #Fain on Tues said #Trump & #Musk are out of touch w/ #workers.

"Donald Trump will always side against workers standing up for themselves, & he will always side w/billionaires like #ElonMusk, who is contributing $45 million a month to a #SuperPAC to get him elected," he said, referencing a WSJ report….

The #UAW pres added: "Both Trump & Musk want #WorkingClass people to sit down & shut up, & they laugh about it openly. It's #disgusting, #illegal, & totally #predictable from these 2 #clowns."
