Lese gerade alte Nachrichten und bin unsicher ob wir in Europa dumm oder korrupt sind? Oder beides?
Da gab es den Versuch eine eigene EU-Cloud zu etablieren mit dem Namen #Gaia-X
2020 wurde da der Einstieg von #Palantir bekannt gegeben. Nach und nach sind dann die Stakeholder ausgestiegen und das Projekt hat sich in Wohlgefallen aufgelöst.

The EFU Ecosystem: A New Operating System for Human-Scale Resource Governance
Introduction
Over the past months, a quiet revolution has taken place within the Nookratic Bloc and the Zenodo scientific repository. The Equivalent Flux Unit (EFU) framework has evolved from a theoretical concept into a comprehensive, modular, and open-source set of standards. It is designed to address the most critical governance and sustainability crisis of the 21st century: the decoupling of economic metrics from biological reality.
The Puzzle Pieces Are Now Connected
EFU is no longer just about energy. It is a multi-dimensional accounting framework that uses the human metabolic baseline (100 Watts) as a universal common denominator for all critical resources. My recently published standards on Zenodo now cover the essential pillars of a sustainable civilization:
* EFU-Energy (v1.0): Measuring physical work and energy footprints through the lens of human metabolic flux.
* EFU-Water (v1.0): Integrating water scarcity and consumption into the metabolic accounting model.
* EFU-Carbon: A radical re-interpretation of decarbonization and carbon intensity based on biological impact.
* Quantitative Ontology: The theoretical foundation bridging physics, biology, and economics to create a “Grammar of Survival.”
Why EFU, and Why Now?
In a world dominated by the EU AI Act, Gaia-X, and CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), decision-makers are drowning in fragmented data. EFU provides the missing Sense-making Layer.
We do not ask for more data collection; we provide a way to translate existing compliance data into a human-scale narrative. When a board of directors sees their “Physical Balance Sheet” not in abstract Megajoules, but in “Metabolic Equivalents,” the strategic risk becomes undeniable and actionable.
A Call for Professional Partnership
The EFU framework has reached a level of maturity where it is ready to move from the research lab to real-world application. I am actively seeking professional partners—academic researchers, ESG consultants, software architects, and policy-makers—to collaborate on the following:
* Pilot Audits: Creating the first EFU-based Physical Balance Sheets for corporations or data centers.
* Methodological Peer-Review: Refining and expanding the existing Zenodo standards through expert feedback.
* Software Implementation: Developing automated EFU converters to “plug into” existing ESG and IoT databases.
EFU is not just another “green label.” It is a language of sovereignty and a tool for moral innovation.

Today, the #EU will launch a new legal entity aimed at supporting the development of the #DigitalCommons.
The so-called European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (#EDIC) is a legal instrument that allows EU countries to pool resources and "coordinate with communities to develop, maintain and scale digital commons and facilitate their uptake."
Depending on who leads it, this #DCEDIC might become something great, or it could end in failure just as #GaiaX did. 🍿

Die „Totgesagten leben länger“, heißt es bei Gaia-X und dem CISPE-Verband europäischer Cloudanbieter – 3000 europäische Cloud-Angebote sollen nach EU-Standards gelistet werden. Doch Achtung: Hyperscaler wie Microsoft oder AWS aus den USA und China mischen mit, Palantir inklusive. It was the same with #gaiax. Nowhere could you ever find out what they offer and what it costs unless you contacted them so that a sales rep (who won't be interested in some private user anyway) can contact you.
And people wonder why everyone goes to aws/azure. It's a lot more beginner / agile friendly than this shitty European model.
Heck, on the SpaceX site I can see what a satellite launch would cost me and download the payload manual. Try that with a European space provider.

… Es müssten jetzt also ganz schnell Alternativen her. Zu dumm, dass sämtliche Alternativen, über die man in den vergangenen zehn Jahren nachdachte, keine wirkliche Souveränität liefern, sondern allenfalls Souveränität light. Die 2019 gegründete europäische Cloudinitiative #GaiaX etwa wurde jahrelang stiefmütterlich behandelt und nahm 2021 außerdem Amazon, Microsoft und Google auf. Seitdem hört man wenig von der Initiative, obwohl es sie angeblich noch gibt.

Wir bräuchten dafür allerdings eine andere #EU, die ist, wie man am Projekt-Klassiker #GaiaX besonders deutlich sieht, leider unfähig zur Souveränität.
Man träumt von Open Source, Standardisierung und einem daraus resultierenden "Ökosystem für alle", weiter auf derselben Basis und mit denselben Lobby-Einbläsern wie bisher.
»Im März 2021 wurde die Mitgliedszahl um 212 sogenannte „Tag-1-Mitglieder“ erweitert, darunter zählen zu den bekanntesten (Stand: 29. März 2021) auch #Microsoft, #Alibaba, #Amazon und #Google. […]
Im Dezember 2020 überraschte das auf Big-Data-Analysen spezialisierte US-Unternehmen #Palantir mit der bis dahin nicht bekannt gewordenen Information, dass es sich „von Tag Eins an“ dem europäischen Cloud-Projekt Gaia-X als Mitglied angeschlossen habe.«

Wir haben die oben genannte (mutmassliche, aber dementierte) Drohung, dass Starlink für die Ukraine abgeschaltet würde.
Wir haben aber auch die Aussage von @Karlitschek im Interview mit @adfichter, dass Microsoft Geld und Sponsoring geboten habe, damit Nextcloud (und andere) die Kartellrechtsbeschwerden zurückziehen würden.
Daneben geht es auch um #GaiaX, europäische Cloudbemühungen und offene KI.

#GaiaX [Page 108; Q88]: 11 projects started 2022 (will run for 3 years), funding for national Gaia-X Hub has been approved. Annual budget is 45, 42 & 28 MEUR for 2023, 2024 & 2025, respectively, funding will end 2025. Interestingly, #IPCEI CIS (which was not covered by the inquiry), has a 4x higher budget for 2023 and 2024 (see reply thread for more details).
