  1. This is interesting. European, privacy respecting payment app for phones. Even Sailfish is on roadmap.

  2. Ok. #newphone time. Want to #degoogle so do i go #sailfish #volla or #murena ? I love the @jolla phone but the @volla one would also do Ubuntu and looks interesting. The @WeAreFairphone and @murena is in the lead so far purely because of the green colour.

My current is a S24 and has at least 2 useful years left but with the changes google are planning to do I don't really think its an option.

I really wish Windows Phone took off, or PalmOS. They were bloody cool.

  3. @Antti98 This #JollaPhone demonstrates for me well what #TechIndependence can and should look like in the #EU. Sure, I still had to download android apps to daily drive this thing, but I find myself more and moving to use services which can be used natively. Now I just hope European companies would 1) make sure their android apps work with #Sailfish 2) start to think of making native apps for European own mobileOS

  4. While I'm on a roll I would like a style keyboard for and on-device voice dictation would be nice but neither was available last time I checked.

Hardware wise I can now cope ok without fingerprint scanner or NFC on the - minor inconveniences not to have them.

Oh and if 's next handset was that would be great too although that might be limiting for apps, both under and in the Jolla app store I guess. I can dream...

  5. I'm still unsure on navigation map options. I have and (Although that does occasionally crash). I love but it's owned by Google.

Will probably install at some point which is also fantastic at walking route.

It does suck that the GPS is pretty terrible on this device without the MicroG GPS assistance though.

  6. Got most of my apps on the now including and which (along with ) makes it more usable use as a daily driver. Would be nice to have good narive apps for it at some point bjt this setup is good for now.

Will leave anything I use for work (Slack/GitHub) off it, and anything Google (Sailpipe for youtube is on there thanks to @flypig - hopefully that will get download support at some point for offline use)

  7. Defintely liking on the . at the moment. The self-levelling feature is useful and picture quality feels better than on the default camera app.

  8. @rubdos Alright, that build worked like a charm. Thanks for the impromptu debugging and nice to see the #sailfish community alive on Mastodon! Gotta make that tech world a better place!

  9. First identified friction with #Jolla phone that I'll either need to find an existing workaround for or start making one myself - DPI/zoom.

I'm old. Those five icons wide app panels and the extremely tiny text sizes in Android apps where I can't modify it (the only system wide setting is for text in the #Sailfish OS UI) did get problematic as dusk set in yesterday evening.

There seem to be community documented dpi settings to modify using the shell but I'd rather look into if there's any issues or work done at system level and maybe hop in.

  10. I have no expectations that there will be lots of native #Sailfish OS applications - just logging those I had some hopes for.

    No #Nextcloud app
    No #Proton apps

I'll always search for native apps first, followed by seeing if Android apps work if they don't exist.

  11. Unimpressed with my C2 somehow using over 4GB of mobile data yesterday. I often don't go through that in a month ... I said this before but I really wish the device had per-app data counters ...
I did switch the SIM card in it in the last week but I wouldn't have thought it would make a difference. I wasn't off wifi for much of the day as I was working most of it.

  12. Btw this was posted via #Sailfish's direct #Mastodon integration. It's really cool to see a phone have that. (Cheers @abranson and @jolla).

  13. @leanderlindahl After beeing in #jolla #sailfish land for 2 weeks and had #eos #murena on #fairphone 6 for 6 months….

I prefer currently #eos mainly for those reasons (now) even when sailfish would be my choice of heart and I will reevaluate in 12 months again …

Fairphone 6 with murena 4.0 (not using google services)
    0) Ux seems currently a bit better on fp6 ( productivity)
    1) more often software builds (since they are Android fork) / faster updates
    2) all my important apps (password mgr, banking, government) run since 6 months (… lasted 6 months to get them to work)
    3) the community seems more professional and less „emotional / hardcore“
    4) nfc payment works

What I really liked about sailfish:
    0) Less to no ties to the google / apple universe
    1) the ui seems more focused and less nagging
    2) the hardware of the new Jolla phone at least for me feels much better (even if it is midrange)

Bottom line: both worked well, BUT sailfish has some Android app compatibility issues still (can not set a security pin on the app / Android universe… therefore many apps refuse working), if critical apps work I give it another try.. (

    #mobile #sovereignity and #dataprotection in #EU

  14. I usually don't post links to commercial websites, but for this I am making an exception.

What a quirky product launch. Emotions exploding, at least by northern European standards. I love every second of it and now I am upset I didn't go there!

    :awesome:

Jolla and SailfishOS should be much more in public focus. It is a great product and driven by a European mindset. Data protection, privacy, functionality and design (Of course, it's from Scandinavia!). We have a European mobile platform and should use it!

And no, modified Androids are not really the answer... We need sovereignty from Big Tech in hardware, software and usability/ecosystem.
