Le soft power chinois illustré par les caricatures de « China Daily » : une esquisse de nouvel ordre mondial
À travers ses caricatures, le très officiel média de langue anglaise China Daily s’adresse aux étrangers résidant en Chine. Son objectif : véhiculer une image positive du pays. Entre valorisation d’une Chine bienveillante et critique des puissances occidentales, ces dessins visent à contribuer à la diffusion du soft power de Pékin.
Fondé en 1981, _China Daily_ a le plus grand tirage (900 000 exemplaires, dont 600 000 à l’étranger) de tous les journaux de langue anglaise en Chine. Il appartient au Département de la propagande du Comité central du Parti communiste chinois (CPD) qui lui communique la liste des sujets à traiter et de ceux qu’il ne faut pas aborder. Ce média qui, outre l’édition papier, est intégralement consultable en ligne, constitue un instrument non négligeable de la diplomatie publique chinoise. Il cible principalement les diplomates, les expatriés et les touristes, mais aussi toutes les personnes habitant ailleurs dans le monde et portant un intérêt à la Chine.
Par son intermédiaire, la Chine s’adresse en anglais à l’ensemble de la planète. Le contenu des articles est assez consensuel et peu polémique, excepté les caricatures (« cartoons ») qui sont publiées tous les jours.
