Why does it seem like anytime I make a call anymore, robotic voices and hold music are unnaturally loud but human voices, which are what I actually need to hear, are so soft an static-y?
Is this just me and my auditory processing issues? Or have other people noticed this as well?

Thought they were asking for help when what they were saying was for me not to touch the bar. Ended up with them pissed at me when I thought I was helping, and now my mood is low. The most embarrassing part of auditory processing disorder is not always knowing which direction sounds are coming from.
Folks I work with is get impressed by how I identify them when they walk up behind me. But I really can’t tell they’re there at all by sound. I have a mirrored pen holder on my desk to compensate for this problem.
I’m just as shocked they don’t notice how I do it.

I just realized why I hate #remoteworking when everyone around me seems to love it: it fucks with my #AuDHD #masking.
I didn't realize until I was forced to WFH in 2020 just how much I rely on #bodydoubling to function: everything from assessing how hard I'm supposed to be working based on the people around me, to remembering to each lunch. I'm much better at conversation IRL - being on the phone constantly with people whose lips I can't see messes with my #auditoryprocessing, which makes me more socially anxious, which makes it harder to focus and retain information. It threw off the daily routine I was precariously managing. I can't just copy the emotional reactions of everyone around me = I don't know what the "appropriate" emotional reactions are for situations = I just default to constant anxiety.
I feel bad because so many #neurodivergent folks really prefer #WFH but I selfishly want y'all to come back to the office so I can unfuck my life 😩 Am I alone here, @actuallyautistic ?

Today I learned that my #hearing / #AuditoryProcessing isn't getting worse - it's that #TV shows and films are now increasingly likely to mix their #audio for #SurroundSound, where the dialogue track is intended to come out of the speaker close behind you, so they tend to put it really quiet in the mix. Hence why I need to put subtitles on to follow dialogue on shows, but I never used to. Which is... bonkers, because who tf uses surround sound? Aren't we all streaming on our laptops?

@JonSparks I loathe #Dubbing, but it's the norm for "foreign" films both here and in Italy afaik. Theatres at some of the larger cities in Spain show new releases without dubbing, but Granada cinematheques don't really do that.
I'm #Hyperlexic and have #AuditoryProcessing issues, so #Subtitles are just fine for me.
