CW: Unhealthy relationship with my father
So of course my dad wants me to come visit for four days for Father’s Day. He wanted me to tell him by this week and he’s called me twice today. I just can’t deal with him right now. I feel kind of sick and scared when I think about going back. I want to but not to see him. I hate that I’m 30 and he still controls me with guilt and money basically. I do things he wants just so he’ll stop pushing it. I hate all of it.

Being connected to two fields that have been dealing with the replication crisis in science for a very long time now, it's fun to watch other areas getting drawn in and going through the stages of grief.

Why does it seem like anytime I make a call anymore, robotic voices and hold music are unnaturally loud but human voices, which are what I actually need to hear, are so soft an static-y?
Is this just me and my auditory processing issues? Or have other people noticed this as well?

I couldn't log into this account on Ivory, so I reset the PW, thinking I'd saved it wrong. But I still can't log in on Ivory, and my account stayed logged in on this app.
This has to be the dyslexia? But I've started over 3 times. I hate how confused I constantly feel when I'm trying to solve tech problems. My brain still works, and everything still makes sense upstairs!! So why can't I interact with the world around me, without feeling like my brain has gotten me lost? 🧠🤬

Hand tools vent. Maybe this will save someone some grief and #expense if they find it with a search.
Wiha - great drivers & bits. Love 'em. Well-machined, good tough tool #steel.
But their needlenose pliers? Rubbish. I have a set of full-sized needlenose, plus their "micro" set. With both of them there's too much slop in the joint, so the jaws are never quite aligned. I don't recall if they were bad right out of the packaging, but I certainly noticed it within the first handful of usages. I have the full sized "standard" / linesman-type pliers as well, but you don't tend to notice slop because of the much shorter jaws.
Wiha's micro-needlenose pliers are no better than - or even noticeably worse than - #cheap #Chinesium ones I have.
Save your money.

Typically, drillers burn the #gas they don’t capture, converting the #methane to #CarbonDioxide, a less potent #GreenhouseGas, in a process called #flaring. Sometimes, they release the gas without burning it, in a process called #venting.
The permit applications showed #oil companies requested to flare or vent >195 billion cubic feet of #NaturalGas per year, enough to power >3 million homes & generate millions of dollars of tax revenue had the gas been captured.

Sometimes it's ok to be #smug about some things. The world tries to make me feel like the weirdo constantly, so here are some things I've never done, in no particular order (#rant): owned or used a selfie stick, used twitter, instagram, snapchat, tiktok, ordered from amazon, "created" something with "AI", had a youtube account, tried to appease an algorithm, fretted re: brand name clothing, had Windows or cable TV as an adult, broken my vegan diet, voted conservative.

Feeling really frustrated and overwhelmed lately. The job hunt has been tough, and dealing with the lack of protections for medical cannabis just adds to the stress. CW: Venting over unsuccessful college event
Yesterday I had the technical college event with like all kinds of activities. I started to feel very miserable there, as I could not take out my laptop and do something productive at all - all desks in VR gaming zone were occupied by drinks, handbags and another guy's laptop. Also all chairs have been taken by other classes. So yeah, felt like sh** because I could not do anything I wanted to do and I feel I would feel much better if I could spend that time on myself instead of being forced to participate in it. At least found one student who is furry/mascot - apparently mascot by the looks of the head... The more I think of this, the more regretful I feel, by being basically very quiet and grateful at the same time as no one questions me at the college for being a furry, though I wish I could just not see people there straight up laughing off furries. Yeah... Hope you have a great day and I am probably going to just talk it out with my friends

"When natural gas producers waste gas and emit #methane in Utah, it’s not only the economy that suffers, according to a report. Air quality, public health and the environment lose out, too.
"'It’s not just methane,' Ashley Miller, executive director of Breathe Utah, told The Salt Lake Tribune. 'It’s other hazardous #AirPollutants that we really care about for public health. When you have a real serious air quality problem in these areas, there’s people living in these areas, and we want to protect human health as much as we can.'
"In 2016, the report says, air pollution from the oil and gas industry led to eight deaths per million, as well as 1,040 asthma exacerbations per million among #children.
"Oil and gas production sites emit what are called volatile organic compounds, or #VOCs, according to the report, when companies release natural gas into the atmosphere through #flaring, #venting and #leaking.
"Volatile organic compounds create ground-level #ozone, better known as #smog, which is a major public health concern in Utah. The report notes that volatile organic compounds in smog can worsen respiratory conditions, like #asthma, and even cause #HeartDisease. Also, #benzene, another pollutant released during oil and gas production, has been proven to cause #cancer.
The report was published by Synapse Energy Economics, Inc., a research and consulting firm; the Environmental Defense Fund, a nonprofit focused on finding solutions to environmental pollution; and Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan watchdog group that advocates for the responsible use of taxpayer dollars.
"The report states that Utah’s #FossilFuel producers released 16 billion cubic feet of natural gas in 2019, and 87% was lost from wells leaking natural gas due to faulty equipment.
"Duschesne and Uintah counties — where 85% of oil and gas wells are concentrated in the state — received F grades from the American Lung Association’s State of the Air report this year. Those two counties cover the Uinta Basin, where the #Uintah and #Ouray Indian Reservation is also located.
"'We really understand the importance and value of the fossil fuel industry in Utah, especially to those communities where it’s really the only source of revenue and jobs,' Miller said.
"Petroleum production in the Uinta Basin isn’t slowing down. The oil industry is booming in Duschesne and Uintah counties, and statewide oil and gas employment grew by 16% between 2021 and 2022.
"Emissions from oil and gas production also have concerning environmental impacts. Oil and gas production is a large emitter of methane, a #GreenhouseGas more powerful than carbon dioxide, which is the largest component of natural gas.
"The Environmental Protection Agency has issued a proposal to reduce methane emissions by ensuring that wells are checked frequently for leaks using monitoring equipment. The proposal would also require companies to continue monitoring wells for emissions until they are plugged after production."

So I go to take my shower. While I'm taking it, I hear a bizarre sound in the bathroom. I peek around the curtain and sure enough, the toilet is bubbling. The water level does not seem to be rising, so I just laugh it off.
As I shower, I notice that the shower drain seems partially clogged. Okay, I'm going to have to plunge it.
After the shower, I start plunging, and I plunge, and I plunge. I plunge to the point that I'm thinking I may need to buy a snake to snake it. (I've lost my snakes in the divorce.)
Then I remember the bubbly toilet. I decide to flush it, and sure enough, there's a clog. So I decide to plunge the toilet, and bingo! I've unclogged the toilet and the shower drain at the same time.
Don't ask me how it all works behind the scenes. I've done some plumbing and I know about venting, but I don't design plumbing. Going to the toilet was just a hunch, based on the earlier bubbling, but it worked! 🥳

Next customer to touch me for any reason is either getting their head put through the window or everyone in the restaurant will hear me yell about it, even the dishwasher all the way in the back.
People need to fucking learn to not touch anyone, especially strangers, without explicit consent.
