Software made by rapey creeps with no accountability doesn’t take no for an answer or accept accountability any better than they do.

    Weird, right?

  2. I take a stab at the nature vs nurture argument with this Daily Word Prompt from WordPress. I sort of wander into abstract concepts and whatnot. Read it below via link:

  3. 🚀🌿 Wow, breaking news! Moss miraculously survives the treacherous, uninhabitable void of space for nine months—meanwhile, your houseplant can't last a weekend without wilting. 🙄🌱

  4. Watching #foundation on #appletv. This is my second attempt. I never read the books as I have always enjoyed listening to people explain what #Asimov was trying to say not read it myself.

The second time I feel so much more engaged and enjoying it hugely. So fascinating to see #naturevsnurture concepts. He continually folds it in on itself. I can see why people liked the books.

  5. A brother once opined:
“The mountains are calling, and I must go.”

    But for me,
it is the people I most hoe.
    They are thirsty.
    And need some drink.

    And I —
    half-full or half-empty,
    depending on the day —

    still poor, I think.

  6. A quotation from Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Treat bad men exactly as if they were insane. They are in-sane, out of health, morally. Reason, which is food to sound minds, is not tolerated, still less assimilated, unless administered with the greatest caution; perhaps, not at all. Avoid collision with them, so far as you honorably can; keep your temper, if you can, — for one angry man is as good as another; restrain them from violence, promptly, completely, and with the least possible injury, just as in the case of maniacs, — and when you have got rid of them, or got them tied hand and foot so that they can do no mischief, sit down and contemplate them charitably, remembering that nine tenths of their perversity comes from outside influences, drunken ancestors, abuse in childhood, bad company, from which you have happily been preserved, and for some of which you, as a member of society, may be fractionally responsible.

Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. (1809-1894) American poet, essayist, scholar
Article (1860-08), “The Professor’s Story [Elsie Venner],” ch. 16 [The Professor], Atlantic Monthly, Vol. 6, No. 34

  9. A quotation from Josh Billings

A man may git a big fut, or a pug noze, bi birthright, but nine-tenths ov hiz virtews are the effekt ov associashun or edukashun.

[A man may git a big foot, or a pug nose, by birthright, but nine-tenths of his virtues are the effect of association or education.]

  14. How you show up in the world, your behavior, is connected to those wounds you're trying to heal.

Your behavior is a mix of nature and nurture. Nature is just who you are. It's the personality you were born with. Nurture is partially who the pain made you become.

If somebody told you that you were too loud and you quieted down, then pain made you become quiet. That's a coping mechanism and it's not who you are.

The same is true with any of those other messages that you got, particularly as a child. Anything that you shifted about yourself in response to external messages is a coping mechanism. You did so based on pain.

To fully heal you need to shift back the other way. You need to remove the coping mechanisms. You need to find all those little behaviors and shift them.

Behavior is one of the most consciously unconscious things that we do. It's conscious because we're actively doing it. But it's completely unconscious at the same time because we don't think about our behavior almost ever; we just do it.

Becoming aware of yourself in the experience is how you shift the behavior. You have to notice your own reaction or response. You have to notice how you act when somebody does or says something to you. You have to notice how you respond verbally to people. What words are coming out? Are they helpful? Are they based on your own pain? Are they part of a coping mechanism?

Changing your behavior is the final shift that you make to release yourself from the wound. You can't fully heal until you shift your behavior because that's how you stop living from the pain.

The pain will keep showing up in your experience until you stop acting as though you're in pain even though you've healed it.

    Love to all.

    Della

  15. Question:
If you took a bird, say a blue jay, and even before it hatched, it only heard crows speaking, would it speak crow? or blue jay?
I believe they are both corvids, and I'm wondering if it would show how much a bird's speech is innate and how much is learned?
