Has anyone run into this?
The built-in macOS text-to-speech engine isn't respecting the speech rate I've set. No matter what I choose, it keeps speaking at what seems like the default speed instead of my preferred rate.
Has anyone found a fix or workaround for this? Thanks!

Big update for NVDA Coach. 🌏
NVDA Coach is my free add-on that teaches the NVDA screen reader from inside NVDA itself — short, guided, hands-on lessons, one command at a time. No videos. No PDFs. Just press NVDA+Shift+C and start.
Version 1.5.7 is now fully available in Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese — all six chapters, every spoken prompt, and the documentation. That joins Spanish, Russian, Turkish, and Portuguese. More blind and low-vision people learning their screen reader in their own language — that's the whole point.
Free. No account. Works offline after install.

If you’re a Mac user who creates content, livestreams, podcasts, teaches online, or records videos, do yourself a favor and check out Ecamm.
I’ve been using it for quite a while now, and one thing that continues to impress me is how responsive the team has been to accessibility feedback. The app was already usable with VoiceOver when I started, but they’ve continued polishing the experience with every release, making it even better for blind creators.
I’m also really impressed with their new Duo Mode feature. Being able to create horizontal and vertical versions of your content at the same time is such a smart workflow improvement.
There's also zoom integration which is so cool! I'll provide a link to the website so y'all can check it out. Oh yeah, and the developers would love to get more folks on board with providing feedback, so let me know if you are interested and we can go from there.
https://www.ecamm.com/ If you’re on a Mac and haven’t tried Ecamm yet, it’s definitely worth a look.

I'm proud to announce the launch of Blind Productions.
Blind Productions is a showcase and community I built to celebrate blind creative professionals — musicians, DJs, actors, authors, podcasters, and content creators — and to give us one place to discover each other's work, collaborate, and connect.
Here's the honest part: this is the ground floor. The doors are open, the foundation is built, and now it's time to fill it up. I'm inviting you to help shape what this becomes — a living archive that future generations can search to discover the musicians and creators who came before them, and a moderated space where we create, support one another, and network as a community.
What's here today:
• A searchable directory of blind creatives, each profile with a bio, links to their work, audio to listen to, and video to watch.
• A moderated community forum for collaboration, support, opportunities, and networking.
• Accessibility built in from the ground up — screen-reader friendly, fully keyboard operable, with adjustable text, themes, and high contrast on every page.
So here's my ask: start submitting profile suggestions. Nominate yourself. Nominate the artists you admire. Bring the people who deserve to be found. Create a free account, join the conversation, and let's build something that lasts.
This is how a legacy gets started — together.
Explore and submit: https://blind.productions
You must be 18 or older to join.

Friends, I've been pouring my heart into something for a long time, and I can finally share it: my book, No Sight Required: The Blind User's Guide to AI, is coming to Amazon in 2026. 💛
Here's the truth that drove me to write it — for the first time in history, the computer can meet us halfway. As a totally blind musician, assistive-tech professional, and advocate, I've navigated my whole life through screen readers — NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack. And I've watched AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini open doors I once thought were closed for good.
But too often that technology comes wrapped in jargon and gatekeeping. So I wrote the guide I wish I'd had: clear, practical, and written from inside the blind community. No fluff, no barriers — just real, step-by-step help. How to navigate every major AI platform with your screen reader, a ready-to-use prompt library, and real-world wins: on the job, troubleshooting, gaming, even building your own accessible software.
Because independence shouldn't be a privilege. It's a right. And to claim it — no sight required. ✨
It launches on Amazon in 2026, and I'd love for you to be the very first to know. Drop your email here and I'll send you one note — no spam, ever — the moment it's live:
(And in the spirit of the book: Written by me, helped by AI, finished by a human, checked by more humans. 😊)
Thank you for walking this road with me. Every single share helps this reach someone who's been waiting for exactly this. 🙏
With gratitude,
Tony

I think I may have asked this before, but does anyone know of a way to access shared Google Drive folders directly from Finder on macOS without having to open the Google Drive web interface? I’m specifically looking for a way to browse and work with shared folders as if they were regular folders in Finder.
The only workaround I know of right now is adding a shortcut to the shared folder, which I usually do through the Google Drive app on my phone. Once I do that, it shows up in Finder. I’m wondering if there’s a better or more direct way to access shared folders.

Tech Tip Tuesday
Screen readers help blind or low vision individuals access digital spaces by reading text aloud & supporting navigation through keyboard commands, touch gestures, or Braille displays.
Today’s accessibility tip: Make digital content screen reader friendly!
Screen readers open doors, but accessible design keeps those doors open.
What screen reader tip or shortcut would you share with others?

💙 Did you know PCB is more than just an organization?
PCB is a statewide peer network where people who are blind or low vision, (as well as their families & caregivers), can connect, learn, share & support one another.
Find a local chapter, join a discussion call, and become part of a welcoming community across PA.
You do not have to navigate vision loss alone.

Exciting things are on the horizon at BITS!
Our members are hard at work developing a growing collection of software and applications designed to empower users, creators, and accessibility advocates alike.
Coming soon:
• Quill, a robust and accessible text editor designed with productivity in mind.
• Chapter Forge, an MP3 editor and chapter creation tool to help users organize and enhance audio content.
• Glow, an application designed to help ensure documents meet accessibility standards and best practices.Several of these apps are being developed as open-source software, creating opportunities for users and developers to contribute ideas, testing, documentation, and code.
These projects reflect one of BITS' core strengths: technology created by blind and low-vision innovators and improved through collaboration. The goal is not simply to build tools for our members, but to create resources that can benefit the wider accessibility community.
We're excited to share more as these projects continue to grow and evolve.

Your screen reader does not have to read everything at full detail all the time. JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack all let you adjust verbosity settings to reduce what gets announced. Turn off punctuation announcements for casual reading, then turn them back on when editing. Tuning verbosity for the task you are doing saves a lot of mental energy.

"The next time you’re scrolling your phone, take a moment to appreciate the feat: The seemingly mundane act is possible thanks to the coordination of 34 muscles, 27 joints, and over 100 tendons and ligaments in your hand. Indeed, our hands are the most nimble parts of our bodies. Mimicking their many nuanced gestures has been a longstanding challenge in robotics and virtual reality."#AssistiveTechnology #Accessibility #MedTech #Prosthetics #InclusiveInnovation

My hope is that both Samsung and Google take into consideration the backlash over privacy concerns with Google Glass, and its negative affect on those who are blind or have low vision and depend on this technology.
What are your thoughts about smart glasses and how they can be used to benefit the visually impaired?

Hey guys. Curious what methods on Windows y’all are using for this. Let’s say I have a huge library of sound effects on a drive… what are y’all using to sort through everything easily, search by keywords, preview sounds quickly, and still do all the normal copy/paste and file management stuff?
I know about REAPER’s Media Explorer, but I honestly haven’t used it in a long time. Just wondering what else is out there these days, especially anything accessible and fast to navigate.
