  4. each day a graveyard

    I leave flowers as I go;
    each day a death each
day an unknown becoming known –
there was always time enough for this,
    there will always be time
to mark as we pass, there
    will be memory even
in action; there will be a
    remembrance worth remembering.

  5. A Little Humanity And Compassion, Could Really Improve Someone's Day;

    #Disability #Poverty #Aging #Health
🚨 URGENT HELP NEEDED TODAY 🚨

I am a 48-year-old disabled man living in poverty, and I am struggling to survive.

Every day is a battle against constant pain, sleepless nights, hunger, declining health, worsening vision, vertigo, mobility issues, cognitive decline, and the harsh reality that my disability income does not come close to covering the cost of living.

I face impossible choices every day:

    Food or hygiene.
    Medication or necessities.
    Survival today or survival tomorrow.

I have no safety net. No financial cushion. No family support. No meaningful support system.

I am asking for help because I genuinely do not know how much longer I can continue carrying this burden alone.

    My Reality

    I live solely on SSDI.

    I have no health insurance.

    I do not drive.

I live in a rural area with no public transportation, meaning everything I need must be delivered or depend on finding someone willing and able to help.

My housing situation is unstable. Part of my rent is paid through helping maintain the property where I live, but my disabilities and declining health are making even those responsibilities increasingly difficult.

I am aging in poverty, and every year brings new physical limitations, more pain, and greater uncertainty.

    I am not getting better.

    I am getting worse.

    My Health Is Declining

    My days are consumed by:

    Chronic pain
    Exhaustion
    High blood pressure fluctuations
    Vertigo and dizziness
    Poor mobility
Knee, hip, ankle, and joint pain
Numbness and weakness in my hands
    Cognitive and executive functioning decline
    Vision problems and light sensitivity
    Dental issues
    Anxiety, PTSD, and Bipolar Disorder

Some days my vision becomes a fuzzy blur. Bright light hurts. Low light makes basic tasks difficult.

If I sit too long, my joints lock up.

If I stand too long, my legs burn and stiffen.

If I lie down, pain spreads throughout my body.

Simple daily activities that most people take for granted are becoming harder and harder to accomplish.

    Why I Am Reaching Out

    I am exhausted.

    Physically.

    Mentally.

    Emotionally.

    Spiritually.

I have spent years contacting organizations, charities, government agencies, advocacy programs, nonprofits, and anyone I could think of for help.

Most of the time I receive lists of resources, referrals, phone numbers, websites, and suggestions.

What I do not receive are results.

I desperately need someone willing to understand my actual circumstances and help create real, concrete solutions.

I do not need more lists.

    I need advocacy.

I need a social worker or case manager who can help navigate housing, healthcare, benefits, food security, transportation, and long-term stability.

    I know resources exist.

I simply cannot seem to access them on my own.

    A Recent Example

A few months ago, I developed a serious dental problem.

The pain became so severe that my landlord had to take me to the emergency room simply to obtain antibiotics.

After extensive effort and repeated requests, I was able to receive an examination and X-rays, only to be referred elsewhere for additional care I could not afford and could not reliably travel to.

Multiple emails and follow-ups produced little more than apologies and delays.

This experience reflects a much larger problem:

Many disabled people are given information about help.

Far fewer are actually able to obtain that help.

    What I Need Most
    Immediate Needs
    Food and groceries
    Hygiene supplies
    Clothing
    Medical and dental care
    Transportation assistance
    Household necessities
    Relief from immediate financial crisis
    Long-Term Needs
    Stable, permanent housing
    Consistent food security
    Reliable healthcare access
    Advocacy and case management
A sustainable future with dignity and security

    My greatest need is stability.

I need a forever home where I can live safely for the rest of my life without constantly fearing homelessness, displacement, or crisis.

    This Is About Dignity

This is not a request for luxury.

It is a plea for dignity.

    Poverty is expensive.

    Disability is exhausting.

    Hunger is cruel.

    Isolation is crushing.

I am trying to survive while my body and mind continue to deteriorate.

Despite everything, I continue to fight every day.

    I continue to hope.

I continue to ask for help.

    Financial Needs
    Today's Goal

    $8,455

    Annual Survival Need

    $27,255

    Monthly Survival Need

    $1,500

    Immediate Stabilization Goal

    $25,000

    Long-Term Housing and Security Goal

    $5,000,000

A stable, accessible, permanent property would not only give me safety and security, but potentially allow me to spend the remainder of my life helping others who struggle as I have.

    Final Words

    I am tired.

    I am hungry.

    I am in pain.

I am scared of what tomorrow may bring.

But I am still here, still fighting, and still hoping someone will hear me.

If you have ever known hardship, loss, fear, hunger, loneliness, disability, or uncertainty, then you know that compassion can mean everything.

  8. A Guide to #BeanThreadNoodles (aka Cellophane or #GlassNoodles)

    December 7, 2020Updated August 12, 2026 By Taylor Jasmine 7 Comments

"Here’s a quick guide to bean-thread noodles, also known as cellophane noodles and glass noodles, among other names — with how to buy and prepare them, with links to recipes. You may find them marketed as #MungBeanNoodles (or mung bean vermicelli), glass noodles, Korean glass noodles ( #japchae ), #saifun, or #harusame.

"No matter how they’re labeled, these fine, nearly transparent noodles are made of a plant-based starch — traditionally mung bean starch. Other types of starches might be used as well, including tapioca and sweet potato starch (as is the case with Korean japchae noodles).

"For simplicity’s sake, we’ll refer to them as bean-thread noodles here. Silky and almost gelatinous in texture, they’re commonly used in the cuisines of China, Korea, and Japan.

"They’re also a staple in other #SoutheastAsian cuisines, including, Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese, and the Philippines. You’ll find lots more details about bean-threads here.

"Bean-thread noodles and rice noodles are often confused for one another. Bean-threads are not fine rice noodles. They’re often shelved near one another, especially if supermarkets carry them both in the Asian foods section. They’re both pale in color, very thin, and and can almost be used interchangeably."

  9. A simple rule for life is that anybody who talks about "curing cancer" in earnest is very foolish and you would do well to listen to them less or not at all.

As a friend of mine once put it, "that's like saying you're going to 'cure virus'"

  10. A while back I was talking to someone about whether it was possible to set up your own GSM cell tower for 2G connectivity to try to revive old feature phones now that 2G is dead in many parts of the world. The idea would be to have something that would broadcast on the GSM wavelengths and communicate with the phone, then have it act as a proxy to allow for browsing the internet and sending SMS or making phone calls, which would be proxied to some kind of Internet service.

Of course, just broadcasting a tower on the GSM spectrum is highly illegal because of how it can cause surrounding phones that still listen in on old 2G networks to connect to that and mess up emergency services and whatever else.

However this would still be really interesting to do in a controlled environment where it won't leak signals into the background. Supposedly there are SDRs that can broadcast on GSM frequencies, and apparently you can target it such that you basically wire it up to the RF receiver on the phone, though I'm not sure where that is on my phone and I assume I'd need to disassemble it to get to it.

  14. A Look Back at X-Men 2099 #24 (1995)

Welcome back, superhero enthusiasts, 1990s culture enthusiasts, X-Men fans and comic book collectors! Today we revisit the Marvel Comics shared universe through one of the many tales of the X-Men 2099 monthly series.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about the X-Men 2099 series was its expansion of the 2099 universe lore as well as the portrayal of uncertainty that mutants deal with in the more desolate parts of America (far away from Spider-Man 2099 and Punisher 2099). Along the way, the futuristic X-Men themselves were really torn down by a series of unfortunate events that includes the departure of their founder and leader Xi’an (eventually Controller X of the Theater of Pain). With the team members separated by circumstances, they were given their own tales and character development periods.

With those details laid down, here is a look back at X-Men 2099 #24, published by Marvel Comics in 1995 with a story written by John Francis Moore and drawn by Ron Lim.

    The cover.

    Early story

The story begins in southern California where the Slaughterhouse gets shaken by the force of a gamma bomb that detonated far away. Inside the facility, Quiver and Sham struggle as they sneak carefully. They intend to escape even though the odds are against them.

Nearby, the demonic Theater of Pain leader Brimstone Love strikes Junkpile (now with SHIELD serving the new President Doom 2099) hard and seriously damages him. With Junkpile down, the evil leader believes that Doom’s best is a failure and the Theater of Pain has nothing to fear from him. Brimstone Love issues an order to have Junkpile disposed.

Several feet below the ground, Skullfire and Luna find themselves contained after getting captured. For Luna, Xi’an is a lost cause and she prefers to find Shakti and escape. Skullfire, however, insists on pursuing Xi’an even though their situation looks very hopeless. As the two try to escape, they end up facing the muses of the Theater of Pain’s bloodsport arenas…Euphoria, Felicity and Bliss. Luna was previously one of them…

    Quality

Shakti represents the remaining X-Men while her former superior Xi’an has fully sided with the evil Theater of Pain as Controller X.

Being the comic book that immediately precedes issue #25, there is a lot of creative stuff here that X-Men 2099 fans will enjoy. The Moore-Lim duo took their time in setting up the eventual restoration of the futuristic X-Men as a team while carefully telling the dangerous events they will face with the Theater of Pain standing in their way.

Fans can find small moments that can be enjoyable or even intriguing to discover such as Luna facing off with her Theater of Pain “sisters” of long ago, the reuniting of Bloodhawk with Meanstreak and Krystalin followed by the justification behind their decision to get involved, and more. What I find very compelling to read is Shakti’s interaction with Controller X (Xi’an behind the mask obsessively serving the Theater of Pain) and the rising danger the Theater’s operation is brewing. There is richness in the dialogue between Shakti and Xi’an, and the symbolic division between them – Shakti representing the X-Men and their former leader Xi’an now serving the evil ones – is really powerful to see.

The storytelling as a whole has a lot of depth behind it, and the build-up of the events is undeniably powerful. As the story progressed, the tension also grew stronger and you can feel the danger that awaits the futuristic X-Men.

    Conclusion

Bloodhawk is back with Meanstreak and Krystalin.

X-Men 2099 #24 (1995) succeeds a lot on setting-up the big conflict of issue #25 and it also sets in motion the eventual reuniting of the X-Men. Along the way, there are small details here and there that will compel you to revisit previous X-Men 2099 issues. Brimstone Love’s evil was emphasized more here and Controller X/Xi’an’s determination to serve him and make a lot of people suffer under the Theater’s operation added a lot of tension to the plot. Consider this a very important read before reading X-Men 2099 #25.

    Overall, X-Men 2099 #24 (1995) is recommended.
