Great Western #Railway (GWR) and #Wokingham Borough Council have introduced improvements to access at #Twyford station following customer feedback.
Six dedicated pick-up and drop-off spaces now allow drivers to wait for up to 20 minutes, while a new bus stop has been added on Station Road. Relining the main car park has created a small increase in capacity, and drivers with an off-peak ticket can now use the permit holders’ car park after 10am.
The changes follow a customer survey calling for better pick-up and drop-off facilities, bus links and parking.
Further improvements are planned. The council is reviewing bus services, with changes expected from April 2027, while GWR has designed an expansion of the main car park to add 50 spaces and is seeking Department for Transport funding.

Work is scheduled to begin in October 2026 on a major accessibility upgrade at Pokesdown station, delivering long-awaited step-free access to both platforms by early 2028. Delivered in partnership by South Western #Railway, Network Rail #Wessex, and the Department for #Transport, the project will convert disused goods lift shafts into modern customer lifts.
Funding for the initiative includes nearly £3 million secured with #UK #Government support. The scheme aims to remove travel barriers for passengers with reduced mobility, parents with buggies, and travellers with luggage.
Recent station enhancements have already seen deep cleaning, stonework restoration, and interactive technology installed. Further upgrades, including wider footbridge access, are planned alongside AFC Bournemouth’s ground expansion. Pokesdown station will remain operational throughout construction, with hoardings installed and some work occurring overnight or during planned closures.
