Reported assaults on Great Britain’s mainline #railway rose sharply in the year to March 2026, according to annual safety statistics from the Office of Rail and Road (ORR).

There were 11,289 reported assaults on rail workers, up 12% year on year, including 6,390 cases of verbal abuse, 2,487 physical assaults and 2,412 threats.

Assaults against passengers and members of the public rose 36% to 13,464, the highest figure since records began in 2004. Harassment increased 52% and common assaults 30%.

On #London #Underground, assaults against passengers and the public rose 20% to 5,534, while workforce assaults fell 3% to 3,525.

There were 18 passenger or public fatalities across Great Britain’s rail networks, including 11 at mainline level crossings. Mainline injuries rose 6% to 12,551, while train accidents fell 43% to 252. ORR said the rise in assaults was concerning and urged employers to strengthen measures to prevent violence and harassment.

It was a warm summer day. We were staying at a friends cabin in Sierraville. Our 3-year-old wanted to explore trains. On our hunt for trains, we came across this old railroad yard.
