  1. RE: hachyderm.io/@ROllerozxa/11689

Yesterday Hetzner launched a new, even more low-end cloud server, the CPX02, with 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM and 20 GB disk space... I'll just let the price speak for itself:

    > 7.49€/mo (IPv4 sold separately)

We still aren't done yet, are we?

For contrast, I am grandfathered into the old CX23 price at 4.99€/mo, with 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 40 GB disk space.

  2. I'm not sure if there are other people out there trying to crack or neutralise these ad middlewares in Java games. Haven't found anything at least.

I was originally going to try to patch it out before I discovered this offline activation method in the code and generated a key for it. But I have another game downloaded which uses Greystripe's ad system and absolutely requires to connect to their defunct servers with no other option. Which will definitely need to be patched out to make the game playable.

Ad libraries in old Android games typically do not treat no Internet connectivity as a fatal error and just doesn't display any ads, which has ended up being much better for preservation.

  3. Installed a J2ME game to my feature phone which requires connecting to an ad server to display ads before the game will load. Given that the ad server as well as the payment server to turn it into an ad-free version are dead (and 2G has disappeared for these phones here even if the servers were up), this would make the game unplayable.

Thankfully there is a numeric code you can retrieve which you are supposed to enter on the computer while purchasing, which can be used to generate a key that can be input manually without any Internet connectivity.

So I just cracked an 18 year old Java phone game... And I might have also discovered the key algorithm that is used in all games with MobileRated's ad system - I don't have any other games using it to compare with.

  4. I think this is the first blog post so far where I've had to wait for something external to happen before I can publish it

  5. A while back I found a collection of neodeer emojis, and I added two of them to a Discord server.

Now I am adding emojis to another server I'm staff in and the owner requests deer emojis along with all the neoraccoon emojis I added. Can someone give me a link to where the full collection is? I don't have it anymore, only these two...

  6. Update - I found an old expired SIM card yesterday, and also figured out how to send files via Bluetooth. Unfortunately this phone has neither Wi-Fi or Micro-USB, the charger looks like a funky ignition connector and cannot be detached to get an USB cable.

Some things have gotten better since then I think.

  7. CW: food, nonvegan

One of those days where you get a culinary experience involving meat so bad that actually, being vegan to get away from all of that does sound pretty enticing

  8. Dug out an old feature phone (Sony Ericsson S312) and the charger for it to try to get some old Java ME games onto it for testing. Charged it up and it NEEDS a SIM card of some old larger variety...

we don't fucking have any of those. that sucks
