A dear friend of mine and one of the people if not THE person who made me vegan, @Arseni, launched a new website regarding veganism. It explains what veganism is and tackles lots of questions and issues, all through archived Instagram posts he's downloading and posting on the website. It's really educational for vegans and non-vegans. Since lots of people (rightfully) avoid Instagram and Meta services in general (Particularly those on the fediverse.), this is a great way to share informational posts without going to any of those services. Neither of us are earning any money from this, by the way (Closest thing is him having a button to donate on the website, but the website isn't earning money.).

The subject of the seminar was based on the new book by academic Chiara Stefanoni "The human and the meat". Here's a link for the book:

"Over 85 billion animals are killed in slaughterhouses annually to sustain a profit-driven meat production system - devastating animals, workers, and the environment. How did we get here? How has capitalist society reshaped human-animal relations? Elaborating a novel materialist and intersectional framework, Chiara Stefanoni conceptualizes the social form of human-animal relations and its centrality within the interconnected structure of domination in capitalist societies, especially in relation to gender and class. Through a historical analysis of industrial slaughterhouses, the study reveals how the human/animal divide and meat-based diet are not timeless facts, but concrete social solutions crucial for the reproduction of capitalist society."

The first "bug" was a bug who was killed in an early computer's relay flipping the bit and confusing the programmers. This is usually told as a cute & whimsical story but as an antispeciesist vegan I think it should be told as a tragedy. We talk about "squashing" software bugs the same way we talk about exterminating real bugs, framing bugs as nothing more than a nuisance to our work when it was the original bug who lost the most.

Carnist and speciesist assumptions make their way into games in many ways, its almost always more satiating to eat flesh in survival games even when abundant plant sources are available, other animals are often treated as resources or objects even when other resource gathering mechanics are available killing other animals is often the only way to progress.
With alien species, if theyre humanoid theyre usually friendly if theyre non-humanoid especially if theyre spiders centipedes or worms or sometimes other bugs theyre hostile
Also many cozy games portray fishing as relaxing when its literally impaling someones mouth with a hook
Sometimes other animals are even reduced to the point of set dressing and killing them has no benefit or drawback whatsoever and their body disappears in a few seconds
In the pokemon series one of the games antagonists are a non human animal rights group, this was undoubtedly a response to critique of the game being pro exploitation and confinement but it comes accross as them doubling down
These things matter not because simulated animals matter but because normalisation of speciesist assumptions subconsciously affects us and it says something about the values game developers have. Thats not to say that fiction can't have elements of speciesism, fictional worlds can be morally imperfect without narratively framing carnism or speciesism as normal natural and necessary.

Human supremacist/speciesist/carnist thought patterns are shockingly similar to fascist ones, you can't be principally against fascism but then pro carnism
In both fascism and carnism there is mentality of:
-Survival of the strongest & most violent (its a kill or be killed world if we didnt do it some other species would have evolved and done it to us)
-Pseuodoscientific classifications of who "feels and thinks more authentically"
-Collaboration with capital to create a systematised killing machine (the nazis took inspiration from factory farms and all the death camps killed non humans too, but the allies didnt free those, only the humans)
-Mocking disregard for the rights and freedoms regarded as other "chickens? with rights?? lol"
-Objectification/Deindividualisation of those regarded as other "a pig is a pig and all pigs are the same"
-Normalisation of violence as a necessary part of life, fascists always paint themself as the victim even as they are mass killing
-Criminalisation of those trying to free the victims (A.L.F. AnimalRising, various undercover farm footage takers)
-Axiomatic deference to the moral superiority of the ingroup ("Human interests always come first", "I'm an unapologetic speciesist", I've even been called a traitor to the human race)
-Sexualisation of the other (generally fascists sexualise those they oppress because they get off on the domination, this I believe is the same reason farm animals like cows and pigs and horses and sexualised its about control)
