  1. AI isn’t magic. In our conversation with Sophie Dionnet (Dataiku), she cuts to the real enterprise AI trap: not models, but change management.

“Taking a decision is one hour, implementation is two years.”

That gap is where AI succeeds or stalls.

  2. P.S.

Fun fact - My Mom has no diplomas - not even High School.

She was forced to drop out when she with child (uh... that would have been me).

But... she is probably one of the most intelligent and well-read people I know.

At (soon to be) 82 years of age, her and I still talk regularly about the world, politics, history, and what we have both read lately. To this day she surprises me with her insights and he knowledge.

  3. “The owners of #ElvisPresley’s #music catalogue are suing artificial intelligence #AI company #Anthropic for allegedly using Presley’s songs to train their models without permission.

Authentic Brands Group, the licensing organization that has ownership of both Presley’s music and likeness, is accusing Anthropic of infringing on the rights of 274 songs by Presley. The #lawsuit, first reported by Billboard, was filed on Friday.

While AI firms have already faced copyright infringement claims from the Recording Industry Association of America #RIAA and music labels such as #Sony, #Universal and #WarnerRecords, this case represents one of the first major legal challenges brought directly by an artist’s estate against an AI developer. The result could set a broader precedent for how AI companies are allowed to use existing #music catalogues.”

“The Elvis plaintiffs bring this action to enforce these exclusive rights against the defendant that has built its entire business model based on copyright infringement at a scale never seen before,” — Richard Busch

“They had a similar background and outlook in other ways, too, including their north-western Sydney upbringing and a small-business mindset.”
That involvement has continued to the present day, with current federal Liberal leader Angus Taylor regularly praising the Brethren and calling out one of the church’s charities, the Rapid Relief Team, for its work in the community.
Reflecting on John Howard’s involvement with the Brethren over the course of his political career, a spokesman for the former prime minister tells The Saturday Paper that the characterisation of him in Bachelard’s book “is like a curate’s egg – it’s good in parts”.
“Many of the economic views attributed to him only evolved over time. He has constantly said that he did not bring rigid ideologic attitudes with him into parliament,” the spokesman says.
“Mr Howard adheres strongly to the view that individual Australians or groups are free to either offer or receive help from others during the course of election campaigns – provided all conduct is within the law.”
In an opinion piece published in The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald earlier this month, former Western Australian Liberal senator Linda Reynolds revealed how in the final weeks of the campaign a senior party official asked her to meet two men described as small businesspeople wanting to help. She recognised them as Brethren members and said they were seeking confidential campaign information and individual logins to Feedback, the party’s voter-contact system, so they could phone voters from their own premises.
Reynolds refused. While she was assured the party would “turn off” its involvement with the Brethren in Western Australia, she soon saw Brethren members arrive in growing numbers at pre-poll booths, briefed by people who weren’t part of the Liberal Party’s local campaign teams, making other volunteers feel uncomfortable and at times intimidated.

When Reynolds raised her concerns in the party room, some colleagues accused her of religious discrimination, an attack line used repeatedly by Coalition members of the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters as they tried to mitigate or deflect questions to Bruce and Gareth Hales and other witnesses during other public hearings.
Even though Reynolds did not allege specific misconduct, she noted that the church’s submission to the committee inquiry denied coordinating its members while acknowledging the many Brethren volunteers “clearly were” coordinated.
“So, if the church did not co-ordinate them, who did?” Reynolds wrote.

According to another Liberal moderate from New South Wales, whenever the Liberal Party turns to the Brethren, it ends up backfiring.

  5. Mbappé double secures Real Madrid late victory at Barcelona after Raphinha leveller
By Sid Lowe at the Camp Nou

Thirteen years later, José Mourinho led Real Madrid into the Camp Nou, and he led them out again with a late, late victory that opens up a whole new world. With three minutes remaining and the energy with which they had played dropping, a wonderful piece of skill from Jude Bellingham found Eduardo Camavinga and set them on one last run on a night in which there were so many of them. Camavinga sprinted into the area, slipped away from Pau Cubarsí and pulled the ball back for Kylian Mbappé to provide the finish.

  6. All models, including large models such as Claude Sonnet, can have a limited context window. The context window is nothing but everything the model can see in one call.

Larger models can have a relatively bigger context window compared to smaller models. A bigger context size can hold more history compared to a smaller one.

We are going to see how we can manage the context size, regardless of the model's context size.

Generally, all conversation history will be stored in the local machine's RAM. As RAM size is limited, we cannot store all the history. So, we can calculate the tokens that are going to be stored in the RAM approximately using a package called count_tokens_approximately.

    messages : 4
    tokens used : 87
    room left : 6913
turn 5: this call = 287 tokens, all calls so far = 1035 tokens
turn 20: this call = 887 tokens, all calls so far = 10140 tokens
turn 50: this call = 2087 tokens, all calls so far = 55350 tokens

So, we need to plan the budget for the context ahead. Instead of reacting when the window is full, decide in advance how much room each part gets:

    WINDOW = 8_000
    BUDGET = {"system": 0.05, "memories": 0.10, "retrieved": 0.35, "history": 0.40, "reserve": 0.10}

Here, we can define that the system can occupy 5% of the total usage. Likewise, memories contain important facts/information about the particular user, retrieved chunks are retrieved from RAG, and recent history/conversation is stored as part of the context.

Set an alarm when we reach the allotted memory usage so we can take action before overflow. What type of action can we take? We can trim the history, clear the old tool outputs, and perform summarization for the conversation.

Trimming - drops whole messages until the history fits. It can trim either at the end, beginning, or middle.

Clear the old tool outputs - keep the newest tool output in full and replace older ones with a one-line placeholder. Keep the same tool_call_id, so the AI message that asked for the tool still has its answer.

Summarization - trimming forgets. A rolling summary compresses the old part into a short note, so facts survive. For summarization, we will use a low-cost LLM. The prompt used for summarization tells what to keep: names, numbers, decisions, and preferences.

Choose the actions from the cheapest fix first, which means first try to clear the old tool outputs. If that is not sufficient, then move to trimming and then summarization, and store the whole history in long-term memory.#ai #agents #llm #software #coding #development #engineering #inclusive #community

  7. New characters and more new characters

So many new characters in my story world

I haven’t had even time coming up with the names for all of them. As I have gotten new ideas to add already existing stories. And the plot twist that has been bring so many great new layers into the stories. Can’t wait to get add everything on their rightful places on the stories. Seeing it all coming alive more.

I was so happy that for once having new characters didn’t mean that I need to start new stories. LOL Because that is how it has been for awhile now. But for once I manage to add 3 new bands with all the members plus one wife of a drummer. Without adding any new stories or books. None of that. I was so happy. And honestly just relieved about more than anything.

But that did last until Saturday evening. Being handed piece of information. That could be used as the inspiration of not only a new story but probably even new book series. I’m not revealing what the piece of information was. Because If I would end up using that I’m not giving that big of a spoiler.

The thing that find most annoying about it this new possible inspiration for story. Is that I know it can be used as a base for really good story. And something even more darker than the other stories so far. It’s a temptation see what this idea could grow into. Not sure will I take it or not. Kinda need do more research about information to see. Is there actually story I would write down.

So I’m not still sure will I give in and look how to turn this idea into story. That is my writing update this time.

I've been curious how many WiFi networks I pass through on a day to day basis, and I now have some sort of answer: In one year and four months of walking around with my phone collecting data for @beacondb, I have now passed one million unique WiFi networks. That's an average of more than 2000 new networks per day!

Almost 55 000 cellular networks come in addition, fueled by a lot of cross border rail.

    #BeaconDB is a degoogled location service, and I contribute using #NeoStumbler. #opendata

  9. I find this guidance from Apple shocking in light of their inability to roll this root bundle, it seems ~impossible to categorically assert that most users are not affected by them not having fixed this. particularly in light of a nontrivial percent of their installation base being developers.

on the other hand, I guess it's good that a future update will fix this. hopefully the next one.

  10. Just found a new series, A Course Called Ireland with Bill Murray going around the country playing golf with his friend, Tom Coyne, who wrote a book about doing just that back in 2009. I loved my travels there back in 2015 and greatly missed the place.

They pulled up to a woman who said to Bill, "Bill Cosby!" And he laughed. Then he said he had been called Eddie Murphy once and so when someone was trying to remember his name whom he had just met, he would offer, "Eddie Murphy," and they would go, "Yeah!" But now he said he may switch to Bill Cosby, because that's apparently who he is now.

He also said that when he first joined a golf club, he was playing with an older member of the club who, at one point, told him, because Murray is 97% Irish, that "it wasn't that long ago that we wouldn't have admitted someone like you," Being Irish.

It’s been a fun and exciting hobby to collect 45 RPMs in my lifetime. Like so many songs of that era, I enjoyed listening to this song on AM 650 KYAK 4+ decades ago.

  13. Yesterday, I watched the Mexican film Flies (Moscas), which deals with cancer. I found it particularly sad and moving, perhaps because I watched it just one day before the Brazilian presidential election.

I couldn't help seeing an analogy between cancer and the erosion of democracy.

Cancer can develop in different parts of the body. Our bodies are made up of trillions of cells, and some can become cancerous, spreading and eventually threatening the entire organism.

I kept thinking about how something similar can happen to democracy. Undemocratic forces can emerge in different parts of society and its institutions, gradually weakening the very system that allows them to exist.

Watching a film about such a devastating disease, while fearing for the future of democracy in my country, was an unexpectedly emotional experience.

  14. #WritersCoffeeClub 10/25: Tell us about inspiration from an unlikely source.

So my most recently published novel, Neon Citadel, started out as an image and I wrote the entire book towards that final image.

    The real life inspiration was:
During Covid lockdown I was picking up Thai food for dinner for my wife and I, and when I left the Thai place and turned back onto the main road, there were tens of thousands of birds (starlings is my best guess, it was dusk... they became corvids in the book), gathered on the power lines and trees and anywhere they could sit, as if they were watching the road or watching me drive down the road.

It felt like the most birds I'd even seen in one place and it was beautiful and ominous in the dusk light, and probably felt all the more ominous because of that lingering lockdown feeling. As many holes as there are in my poor ADD brain, I've never forgotten that moment/image.

  15. #25 Rabid (1977)

I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of Cronenberg, especially the later era, but The Brood and Videodrome are two of my favorites. Even by those standards, this one is weird: an experimental skin graft causes a woman to develop a vampire armpit stinger that infects victims with super-rabies. I can't find anything that says Cronenberg was inspired by Typhoid Mary, but there's a lot of her story in Marilyn Chambers' unsettling performance, as she alternates between instinctive predation and blank innocence.

The mindless drifting of a failing brain, the loss of moments as they pass by, the pain of a body eroding as the seconds tick on by, the exhaustion that grows and never goes away, for the draining anxiety of it all slipping away with nothing to grasp onto, makes each passing day feel as a battle with eternity, for the cloak of isolation and desperation are like a velvet abyss that wraps it's self around your disintegrating skin, the constant need for support where there is no floor to stand upon, the endless pleas that echo out into the voids of time to never be heard, as the seasons change and they claim humanity remains, it is your sanity that battles to maintain, for within this deepening well your soul has long since offered it's last breath of hope, drifting deeper into the winter of existence, only for not one to ever even care nor remember;

  20. Early Days

My programming journey began in late 2015.

Like many teenagers my age back then, I wanted to build my own video games. That was when I stumbled upon something called C++, which turned out to be a programming language. This strange-sounding term referred to a way of telling computers what to do.

Curious to learn more, I started digging deeper to figure out how to speak this language. And that was the beginning of an incredible journey.

From installing Code::Blocks, one of the most popular IDEs at the time, to encountering the infamous segmentation fault (core dumped) error and wrestling with countless compilation errors, every challenge became part of the adventure.

One thing led to another, and I began discovering the countless fields where programming could be applied: web development, systems programming, mobile development, IoT, automation, data analysis, and so on. Even artificial intelligence, that thing we used to see in movies, turned out to be an application of programming principles.

Back then, and even until recently, being a programmer felt like being both a superhero and a complete newbie. You had the power to build amazing, useful things, yet you could spend hours staring at a wall of errors simply because you forgot a semicolon or failed to break out of a loop.

    Welcome to the Shin Sekai

With the rise of new LLMs and their incredible capabilities, everything changed.

Projects that once took a week to plan and three months to build can now, in some cases, be prototyped by an AI agent in just a few hours. And sometimes, the result is surprisingly good, perhaps even better than what you could have built yourself. If you had enough money, computing power, and memory, you could even spawn an army of agents to build your own rocket launcher (though it might blow up on the first try).

A skill that was once reserved for a select few is now accessible to anyone willing to build something. This is what we call equality. But as we all know:

With great power comes great responsibility.

    But that's another debate...

    Searching for the One Piece

In this new era, priorities and many other things are being reshaped.

With everyone able to build at almost supersonic speed (just calm down...), the definition of a successful product has changed, and so has the role of a programmer.

There are still people who enjoy the process of writing their own code and the satisfaction of making it work. Whether you call it ego or being a prehistoric man, that feeling is still very much alive, and the sense of accomplishment is indescribable.

Then there are those who delegate everything to AI. Their sole purpose is to ship. They would even delegate their lives to AI if they could (spoiler: they can't, at least not yet...).

Whichever group you belong to, you can't deny that writing software in the AI era is a whole different story, and that working without AI means missing out on a lot.

    My Take

Now, let's get back to me. Which of these groups do I belong to?

I'm somewhere in the gray zone. I use AI for boring tasks and to help me build complex things. I still review everything it writes, not only because it can make mistakes, but also because I want to learn from the new approaches it might suggest.

For some tasks, I still write the code myself. I love coding, and the satisfaction of successfully wiring everything together is second to none.

Another goal is to keep growing my skills, and that only comes with practice. There will be days when AI tools are down, and relying on them entirely could backfire. There will also be times when an expert's knowledge is needed, and failing to develop your own skills could prevent you from reaching that level.

    Outro

Use AI to build faster, not to stop learning. Let it handle the boring stuff, help you tackle the complex stuff, and challenge you to become better. Because at the end of the day, the goal isn't just to ship more software. It's to become someone who understands what they're shipping.

  22. This isnt Trump being stubborn.

This is Trump telling you the timeline he is currently stuck in.

As his dementia worsens, there were be specific parameters around his "beliefs" and those parameters will not change or be augmented with things that happen after Trump freezes things on HIS dementia timeline. His brain is making a SAFE WORLD FOR HIM TO EXIST IN. His brain will force him to live in that place. And once his brain totally sequesters him in that timeline, his OWN BRAIN will shrink that timeline down day by day until there is only ONE subject left that the brain allows the body to experience. And the the brain turns OFF the body......for good.

No one with dementia escapes this fate. Not even the god like perfection of Trump.

  23. This week gave me Heartbleed vibes again, a vulnerability that haunted everyone for years. PHP powers 70% to 80% of the internet's websites, including widely popular CMS platforms like WordPress and Drupal. Critical PHP RCE (Remote Code Execution) vulnerabilities, registered under CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 and dubbed "PHP2Shell", were leaked online before the official announcement for security patches took place. In fact, some threat actors attempted to exploit them up to four days before the PHP Foundation officially released patches for PHP versions 5.4 to 8.5.

What will make this situation worse in the coming months and years is the sheer number of legacy systems that cannot be updated. This happens for several reasons: the operating system or dependencies has reached its end of life, the software solution was discontinued and left unmanaged, or the sole person managing a fragile system left the company. Often, because a system still generates high profits, no one has dared to update it in years, leaving it hanging as low-hanging fruit for an easy compromise. Many organisations face a combination of these exact issues and many more.

Furthermore, typical patching cycles require a week or two of piloting to monitor for instabilities or system crashes. Companies are naturally reluctant to skip this testing phase, but the severity of this PHP vulnerability means standard patching cycles must be expedited immediately.

As AI makes waves across every IT and Cyber Security sector, the threat landscape is shifting massively. We are now seeing threat actors use AI to reverse engineer solutions and compromise systems before security patches are even available. Years ago, before AI became a mainstream trend, this level of speed would have been unimaginable. Yet, as with every technological advancement and revolution, here we are.

  25. Epstein Files
    I filed another FOIA

DOJ says they have released all the Epstein files except for ones that are duplicative, exempt from disclosure or protected by privilege. OK, let’s test that assertion with a FOIA request.

Here is the list of non-testifying witnesses from Ghislaine Maxwell’s criminal trial.
    justice.gov/epstein/files/Data 0095751.pdf

Starting on the second page each blue line is a different person. Under each blue line are documents for that person. A number of those documents are FD-302 interviews. These are documents prepared by the FBI after interviewing someone.

It is *easy* for anyone to determine if a document has been released. Simply search DOJ’s Epstein website on the 3-part document identifier in the first column of the Maxwell list. I did that. For each FD-302 on the Maxwell list I searched DOJ’s website. By doing that I determined which people were victims or likely victims and which FD-302s have been released.

Keep in mind that only about 100 of the 1,000+ victims were involved in any way in Maxwell’s trial.

    Now about that FOIA...

My recent FOIA request listed the 3-part document identifiers from the Maxwell list that were FD-302s for victims or likely victims and which I have not been able to find on DOJ’s website. I specifically asked for copies that **include the EFTA number** stamped in the lower right corner of each page.

If those FD-302 victim interviews have actually been released as claimed by DOJ, then it would be a simple matter for DOJ to produce copies in response to my FOIA, right? On the other hand, if those 302s have not been released then the FOIA statutes require DOJ to tell me there are no responsive documents - which would be an admission that they never released the 302s listed in my FOIA.

In reply to my FOIA I received the exact same goofy letter that I have received several times in reply to earlier FOIAs. Here is one of those earlier letters that I put on Google drive:
    drive.google.com/uc?export=dow

Bottomline: DOJ refuses to provide any proof that these FD-302 victim interviews have been released and also refuses to admit that they have not been released. That is not a defensible position.

For anyone interested in my analysis of the Maxwell list of non-testifying witnesses it is a PDF on Google drive.
    drive.google.com/uc?export=dow

    But wait, there’s more...

I also filed a different FOIA that is also based on the Maxwell list of non-testifying witnesses. This time DOJ replied and basically asked for clarification which I provided. Now I am waiting for DOJ to reply again.

If you look at my report (see link above) then you will see multiple examples of where DOJ released some FD-302 interviews but not all interviews for the **same victim**. Obviously DOJ was using some criteria to decide which interviews to release and which interviews to not release. This FOIA asked for a copy of those criteria. I will report back when I get a reply.

BTW, victim 045 in the Maxwell list was interviewed four times. Initially DOJ only released the first FD-302 interview report. That report does not mention Trump. Later, after widespread coverage in the media, DOJ released the other three FD-302 interviews for this same victim. Each of those interviews includes the word Trump.

Sure would like to see the criteria DOJ used to hide many FD-302 victim interviews from the public. Stay tuned...

  26. Welcome colleague! I hope you like it here. If I may make a suggestion, you should subscribe to some hashtags. That's the main mechanism of building up your feed, in addition to following people. You can search for hashtags using the search function, and then you can click "follow" if you like what you see. Also, I recommend adding a profile pic (people are hesitant about interacting with people without one), and writing an intro post and asking for boosts.

And anyone else who sees this post: give @m3ll0w0ll3m a warm welcome 😊

  28. Yay, finally moved everything off Azure!

(My free subscriptions actually ended, so I was properly incentivised. One of my small VMs on Azure cost more per month if I'm actually paying for it than the dedicated server that's now running the same VM and other things)

  29. So a while back I talked about what an actor model would look like for ActivityPub, starting from the basic step that an AP "actor" would require a minimum of two actors and a profile to model successfully.

Let's talk for a minute about how replies could work.

What if for every post there was an adjacent actor. The post _isn't_ an actor—it is just created with a ref pointing toward an actor that is created somewhere in space. That can be the creator, but if we were doing this with a real actor system and framework it would be arbitrary (as in it doesn't matter if it is the creator) and more standard to do a unique one.

Now if you reply to that address you will always have your post considered as a reply to the post in question.

You can do that today with a lot of metadata, but what if you didn't need all of that metadata and it was embedded directly into the post itself? There were a repliesActor specified on the post itself?
