For my sins of the past year:
Wife is on her way to Kol Nidre services (fortunately not too far from home) where she will be playing the #KolNidre of #Bruch on the cello.
Car is on the freeway, but she manages to at least get it to the bottom of the offramp and pulled over to the side. She then calls me, and I have to run out of the house and give her my car and sit in this car waiting for AAA. So, no Kol Nidre for me, but maybe this is a mitzvah anyway. 🤣

Tonight Yom Kippur begins, the most sombre moment of the Jewish calendar. It’s a time of atonement - a time to grieve those who have been lost, a time to acknowledge and take responsibility for harms we have caused, individually and collectively. For Jewish people, the personal has always been political and the political always personal. This year I'm reflecting on the fact that we failed to do our part to stop an ongoing genocide committed in our name. There are many other fronts where I have to do the work of repair. But nothing on this scale.
