“Estimating ground level winds during a #TropicalCyclone landfall is a time sensitive exercise. The ability to quickly identify areas of highest risk provides critical insight to first responders and for event mitigation activities.

While national agencies around the world are trusted to provide good estimates of location and intensity at landfall, other key drivers of wind risk, such as the location of maximum wind intensity or the size and shape of the wind field, remain uncertain.”

Got a few minutes, so let me post what I do every summer:
• #TropicalStorm #Wutip is the first Western North Pacific #TropicalCyclone this year. As of Wed 8pm China Time it is centered at 16.8°N 111.4°E, about 258km/160mi SE of Sanya, China.
• It has maximum sustained wind speed of 35kts/40mph/65kph – barely reaching TS strength.
• It is expected to intensify to Severe Tropical Storm before making landfall in Hainan, China, late Thu night to early Fri morning; it won't reach #Typhoon strength.

Ernesto is passed over #PuertoRico, still punishing it and the #VIPR area, as Cat1 storm. It will develop into a stronger storm, expected to turn into a Major Tropical Cyclone within 30hrs, right before hitting #Bermudas, when it's expected to weaken to a low Cat2, by Friday afternoon.

The storm will potentially reach all the way into #Canada, #NovaScotia, as a Tropical Storm, by Sunday morning.
