When I grew up the wave of Italian migrants were becoming integrated into Perth life, and their kids and grandkids continued to integrate, losing some cultural distinctions, keeping others.
But the local pizza place is filled with new Italian migrants as far as I can tell, not hearing hardly any Straylyan.
It's exciting. And I wonder if hotted up cars are still cool in Italy.

Building site just down the street. Builder is advising labourers to "be careful" handling steel frames as they are extremely heavy and have "very sharp edges".
On a 30c extreme (max) UV day the young labourers (backpackers?) have:
- No hats
- No shirts
- No sunnies
- No gloves
- and I'll bet $50 they had no boots, either.On a day like today, they're risking 3rd degree burns. This is the state of #PPE on a building site, #Australia, 2023.
(I felt like saying something, but didn't want to come across as a busybody; but perhaps I should have.)

Last night, at the invitation of Jaeyeon Choe O' Regan, PhD I presented to some tourism smart cookies at Glasgow Caledonian University on the whole backpackers vs quality tourists thang. Was lots of fun and great to speak to a class who were actually in a lecture wall rather than on their lounges! My apologies to Butler for butchering his chart—I’m a writer not a chartist!
