I have just turned off notifications from the #BOM because I have been wasting my time checking them when so often they are irrelevant to the location they say they are. 🤷🏼♂️

Oh no, the Australian BOM weather website is still trash.
Looking at Detailed Forecast for Spearwood.
Want to look at Detailed for South Perth.
I type in new location in search box on that "Detailed" page.
Go to results. Click correct location found. And voila - no Detailed Forecast for South Perth.
Millions well spent?

On that subject, aren’t we well served by the multi-million dollar upgrades suffered by the #BOM ? [Sarc.] -

Guess what… skies are darkening, like 5 hors late… maybe there is some raim to be had as well, sure is no thunder/lighting about. Blue skies on the horizon but…
Damned weather forecasts. Is it just me or have they been less reliable of late? -
Bonkus, just bonkus… I have looked at three weather apps (including BOM) and all of them say it’s raining here, yet a cursory look out my windows reveals blue skies for miles around. Not one tiny shadow of a cloud. Save for thos on the horizon (what 40 kms away? More? I’m on a hill).
Absolutely crap weather forecasting. Some apps show my area surrounded by lightning and dense cloud cover. Heaven help me the sattelite ovelay is also showing the whole countryside under thick cloud cover. WTF?
Anytime now, I’ll come awake and see the garden drenched under thundering rain…

Sources say that a song that starts “Ding dong” has been popular in BoM since Friday.

The author's prescient.
On #BOM infrastructure
" ... an excuse to give four times their budget to an external consultancy who’ll do it properly like:IBM with the 2016 Census,
#Accenture with the Department Of Health And Aged Care’s GPMS,
IBM with Queensland Health’s payroll system,
Deloitte with Defence’s myClearance system,
KPMG with the One Defence Data project,
Deloitte with DWER’s report on automated welfare compliance systems.

The #BOM is looking for a hydrologist - position sounds pretty applied, but interesting (and ongoing!!). Aussie citizens only, unfortunately.

There is a high probability of there being between 5 and 9 songs in this analysis of Melbourne's weather.
How many seasons does Melbourne really have?
https://seasons.lotlsoft.com/
The rweal question is :
Why does the mean of all them "appear" to happen every day ? ? ?Nice though and way better than the Northern Hemisphere 4 thing ..
Though it needs a bigger longer data set ?
Hey BOM throw some "UX" Interface petty cash at this for every region in OCEANIA !

#BOM right now is an ugly example of retrogressive Australian Government policies on #science and applied science.
Both major parties seem quite happy to fund private consulting companies to do public work but with inadequate oversight or accountability.
And the fact that Accenture has been given more work after their website fiasco indicates corruption in high places

The BOM data services do definitely need am overhaul, but I hear that this money is coming from the pot which would have paid researchers' salaries. Not much point having a data service if theres no one collecting the data for it... also a massive WTF at getting Accenture to do it again after the last time.
I learned recently that while a lot of BOM staff are in ongoing roles (yay!) this is not true of the researchers, who are largely on fixed contracts (boooo!). Just thinking about how many staff could be funded with $16 mill...

Thank you everyone for tolerating my coding whinging over the past few months. To reward your patience, I present this humble offering.
If you genuinely like using this, I'd appreciate a 5★ on the App Store too.
Weather data costs money, so Sunshine does too. It's about 1/2 a coffee in Darling Harbour per month, or 2 pints of beer in Melbourne's inner north per year.

<rant class="livid">
What a disaster the BOM website continues to be.
Simple things like daily weather observations, easily accessed on the old functional site. Resorting to use search for basic data demonstrates a lazily designed website. Laziness is one of Accenture's core competencies.
Finally searched for Redcliffe. The data is not available for months. September 2025 has the latest sensible data. October 2025 data and later is b0rken
https://www.bom.gov.au/climate/dwo/202510/html/IDCJDW4099.202510.shtml
It is easy to declare an "efficiency dividend" if you never maintain and develop anything 😖 Degrade the service then flog it off. :guillotinedrop:
What is even worse, using the same search string but substituting "Redcliffe" with "Brisbane" gives no result at all, for a set of data that should be intact.
Did BOM overpay Accenture for a useless website so they can monetise OUR DATA by flogging it off to the myriad of "Weather" apps? Those apps belong in the same bin as Private Health Insurance, Accenture, and Private Schools.
Successive Federal governments over the twenty first century have underfunded our precious public institutions and infrastructure, all so a class of citizens can infested with gas guzzling status symbols and another class can more effciently siphon off OUR wealth.
