"Ice shelves provide a key source of stability to the Antarctic Ice Sheet by buttressing the flow of grounded ice. As ice shelves weaken and collapse due to rising temperatures, the glaciers buttressed by them speed up, increasing Antarctica’s contribution to sea level rise. Pine Island Glacier is the fastest flowing glacier in Antarctica and the ice shelf that buttresses it has undergone significant change in the last decade, resulting in a 20% increase in ice velocity. We compare observations to models to better understand the processes contributing to buttressing loss and conclude the Pine Island Ice Shelf has lost significant buttressing as the margins have deteriorated, destabilizing the grounding line and accelerating mass loss from West Antarctica."

I went to the #Korean minimart for junk food yesterday...

Few reasons.

a) I rarely eat junkfood these days, so when I do, I like surprises. Is it going to be sweet or sour? Crunchy or wiggly? Is it even food, or am I munching on dishwashing pods that look like turtles?

b) The mainstream supermarkets in #australia (Colesworth) decided to stripmine the survivors of #climatecollapse #apocalypse
A pack of chips (crisps?) costs as much as 2.5-3 Liters of gasoline.
Its actually cheaper to buy garbage from across the equator than from down the road.

c) The K-pop supermarket has a vaguely #cyberpunk feel to it. I feel like Decard loading up on rations between retiring skinjobs.

Accidentally I found a pack of tasty peanuts that actually look and taste like peanuts used to back in the 1980s. Its covered in some unidentified powder that might be an accelerant that tastes like chicken.

@jfaulken Hahaha, yes, totally. What I find incredible is that the Japanese Meteorological Agency mentions nothing about climate change.
Our agency here in Spain don’t go a day without mentioning that a lot of what we’re seeing is due to (or worsened by) climate change.
People need to understand that these “unprecedented” catastrophes are related to climate change and fossil fuels.

I've seen supposedly well educated people post on LinkedIn today about what the demographic transition from falling birth rates in Europe is going to mean for stock market performance in 2050.

If we carry on accelerating the pace of #ClimateChange as we are doing, why would anybody seriously think that stock markets would still be a thing in 2050?

Nvidia are going to spend $500 billion on increasing their carbon footprint.

For context, the UN have estimated that it would cost $93 billion per year to end world hunger.

The air pollution caused by all the current wildfires is bad for people. But we can mitigate it somewhat by either staying indoors or wearing an N95 mask outdoors.

However, think of all the wildlife that is affected by the particulates. They have no recourse but to just breath it 24 hours a day. It causes the same damage to their lungs as it does to us. The Earth’s biodiversity is already plummeting. This is just one more nail in their cofffins.
