I hate this timeline.
As a long time #climate campaigner... I almost feel like I should be hoping that the Iran/US war continues as long as possible so the price of oil and gasoline can go as high as possible and force economies to electrify and shift at emergency-speed to renewables.

For the fifth day in a row, we're starting the day with the official air quality measurement (AQHI) for my area of Toronto saying "5 or Moderate Risk"
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, moderate risk means:
"No need to modify your usual outdoor activities unless you experience symptoms such as coughing and throat irritation."
But according to my personal air quality device, particulate matter levels are dangerously high.
"Air is Polluted. Air quality is poor, and you may experience symptoms such as coughing and throat irritation. The pollution may cause breathing discomfort on prolonged exposure, and discomfort to people with heart disease or asthma. Try not to stay in the environment for a long period of time."
"Try not to stay in the environment for a long period of time.." Vs. "No need to modify your usual outdoor activities..."
I guess what they *really* mean is: "no need to disrupt your contribution to capitalism" while we slowly choke the life out of you.

i am a student criminology and psychology at the #ou. i am hereby complaining about the fact that the ou spends student's tuition fees on contracts and so called partnerships with companies that are actively involved in the mass murder of fellow human beings for profit.
the university has a legal duty to uphold domestic and international law, including by cutting ties with companies linked to ongoing #warcrimes.

"I don’t know about you, but personally, the whole festive holiday thing seems to be falling a bit flat this year. Don’t get me wrong, like every other year, I do plan to really go to town on a pumpkin pie or two. But this year, the annual deluge of Black Friday ads egging us on to higher levels of consumption–with corresponding carbon emissions and solid and liquid waste–seemed particularly hollow, morbid–predatory, even–falling as Black Friday did this year on November 29, the date the U.N. first recognized in 1977 as International Day of #Solidarity with the #PalestinianPeople. This year all the excess, forced pageantry, and planned obsolescence of Black Friday seems in such stark and ironic contrast to the poverty in #Gaza.

But, if Jewish-led protests at the Thanksgiving Parade in New York City, and more recently in the Canadian Parliament, are anything to go by, solidarity actions against the unfolding genocide to Gaza are likely to continue to build in the run up to Hanukkah and the January inauguration.
"But in the lead up to Christmas, Joe Biden seems as willing as ever to continue the seemingly limitless supply of U.S. weapons to help annihilate Gaza. I’m just speculating here, (so, please, sir, do not to put me to the dunking stool!) but Jesus himself might be the first to observe that giving birth in a manger sounds pretty idyllic right now to women in Gaza weakened by hunger, giving birth in the rubble of buildings that used to be apartments, universities and hospitals. A monster is needed, and as I have argued in my co-authored book Monsters of Modernity: Global Icons for Our Critical Condition, Godzilla is the perfect monster to make us think about the #consequences of our actions.
"From the first Japanese Godzilla film in 1954, all the way through to Godzilla’s latest outing in this year’s aptly named Hollywood blockbuster Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla has been understood as a response to humanity’s mistreatment of the #earth.
"The first case of mistreatment to provoke Godzilla in 1954 was the use of #nuclear weapons. While developing a premise for the first film, Tanaka Tomoyuki, a young producer at Toho Studios in Japan asked himself: “What if a dinosaur sleeping in the Southern Hemisphere had been awakened and transformed into a giant by the Bomb? What if it attacked Tokyo?”
