@Island_Martha @statsguy @jon Fully agree.
For my #CrossBorderRail tour around Baltic Sea next week, #DB, #DSB, #SJ and #Elron did their best to sabotage my travel plans:
- no night trains Hamburg-Stockholm
- no direct trains Hamburg-København
- Tallinn-Valga-Rīga on weekends broken: Elron arrives 3 mins after Vivi has left Valga
- Baltic station closed 15.-21. july
- EC Warszawa-Berlin ends at Frankfurt(Oder)
Mostly due to trackworks.
I‘ll find my way, though -

I'd guess anyone who can google knows why Conservative MP #AndrewRosindell has been asked not to attend Parliament by his own party for an exceptionally long time since May 2022, which also means he is excluded from the whole Parliamentary Estate and can't attend the committees he's supposedly working on.

Well. With all this pointless faffing around that Streeting and Rayner seem to be set on, it looks like Burnham may get the chance to challenge for the leadership after all.

In the 10 years since the Brexit referendum, we've had 6 Prime Ministers (and looks like we could be up to 7 any day now).
Before the Brexit referendum, it took us 40 years to get through 6 PMs.
I'm now wondering if #Brexit has made the UK largely ungovernable?
That would, I think, be considered a great success from Brexit's main backers.

Polanski has been foolish here. Maybe it was a completely inadvertent error. Maybe the situation was a bit confusing.
But he must surely know that if there's even the slightest hint of impropriety, the media will be absolutely all over it in a way that would never happen for a more billionaire-friendly politician.
He really needs to up his game and be way more careful about his personal tax affairs.

Gotta admit, when I first saw this sign online I did wonder if it had been photoshopped. But this evening I saw it with my own eyes and I can confirm that it is real.

I see #Starmer is having a summit to discuss how Jews are one minority we're not supposed to hate.
I suppose it's good that he's tackling #antisemitism, which is absolutely a hideous thing, but maybe he should look more widely and change some of his policies to make it clear we're not supposed to hate ANY minorities?
Or would that be too radical and woke for him?

So today's little #DigitalExclusion story is about #Eurostar. I'm taking a Eurostar to Paris tomorrow, and because of all the extra faffing about at passport control thanks to Brexit, I thought I'd better take seriously any recommended time to arrive before my train is due to leave.
Their website says to arrive at the time recommended on your ticket, except that there is no recommended arrival time on the PDF ticket. You can only see that in their app.

This is really not a good look for any backbench Labour MPs who vote not to investigate #Starmer over whether he misled Parliament over #Mandelson.
If they truly believe he did nothing wrong, then surely an investigation is the best way for him to clear his name?
And if they don't believe that, then they are voting for a cover-up, and transparently so. Voters will notice.

We ordered some new sofas from John Lewis last month. A few days ago they told us they were ready and will be delivered today. Had a text last night saying they would be delivered between 0846 and 1046 this morning.
And now we've had a phone call saying they won't be. We are assured they have been manufactured, but they don't seem to know where they are. Not even if they were in the UK or waiting to be shipped from China.
I wonder if John Lewis use #AI in their logistics?

#Starmer's government is obviously not as chaotic and incompetent as Johnson's government, but honestly I think it's getting to within an order of magnitude of it now.

Your periodic reminder that the UK Parliament has very strict rules about lying. They take these rules very seriously, and you can be kicked out of Parliament and have your pay docked if you break them.
Oh, but just to be clear, it's not lying itself that's forbidden. Oh no. You can lie to your heart's content. No problem at all
It's only calling out lying that's not allowed.

It's certainly true that the initial #Covid19 vaccine roll-out was phenomenally successful.
But I find it troubling that the government has largely given up on covid vaccines in more recent years.
The vaccines have undoubtedly saved lives, but they don't have a brilliant duration of immunity. Regular boosters are essential to maintain protection.
And regular boosters are no longer available on the NHS for the vast majority of us.

@sean @PoliceStateUK The trouble with #GreenPartyUK is that there isn't one: we have 3 administratively separate green parties in the UK: #GreenPartyEnglandAndWales, #ScottishGreens, and #GreenPartyNI.
Though that still doesn't help, because while I think #ScottishGreens is hashtag with at least some use, I kind of made the other 2 up and I don't think either is particularly common.

@MacNaBracha I love the subtle differences in the way English is spoken north and south of the border. Down here in England, we refer to him as the #FrogFacedGrifter, but actually I think the Scottish version of that has a great ring to it.

CW: UK Politics, Brexit
This seems like a step in the right direction.
Long term, we need to be back in the EU, but with the best will in the world, that's several parliaments away.
In the short term, closer alignment with the EU single market to reduce some of the costs and bureaucracy of #Brexit is probably a good start.

I went to see Guys & Dolls at the theatre yesterday.
I had forgotten what an absolutely brilliant show it is. I haven't felt so thoroughly entertained for a very long time.
Highly recommended if it ever appears at a theatre near you.

A few years ago my default assumption would have been "oh, someone thought they could save money on their IT budget by firing all their experienced IT folk and contracting out to a company that uses cheap fresh graduates in India"
Now I may have to modify that assumption and allow for the possibility that they thought they could save money on their IT budget by firing all their experienced IT folk and using AI to write their code.

I don't think the UK media have made nearly enough noise about the US Navy sinking an *unarmed* Iranian warship and then, in clear violation of the Geneva Conventions, leaving them to drown.
This is a heinous war crime which the media would be rightly up in arms about if any country that wasn't nominally an "ally" had done it.

OMG, now it turns out that the IRIS Dena, the frigate torpedoed by the US Navy with the loss of most of its crew, may have been *unarmed* at the time.
If true, that must surely make it a war crime. Especially as the US Navy made no attempt to rescue the drowning sailors.
(And why are we having to read about this in the Indian press? Where are the UK media on this one?)
