  1. "#TyphoonGaemi, a powerful Pacific storm, is blasting #Taiwan after tracing a bizarre loop-de-loop. Taiwan’s east coast was hammered by the storm’s intense inner core twice.

Gaemi rapidly intensified from a Category 1 to a Category 4 storm overnight Tuesday into Wednesday local time, peaking with winds around 150 mph."

  2. From the ballad of #RapidIntensification

"#HurricaneLidia, a Category 4 storm, roared ashore Tuesday night about 35 miles south-southwest of #PuertoVallarta on #Mexico’s west coast. The major hurricane was expected to unleash flooding rains, destructive winds and a dangerous ocean surge.

Lidia intensified with remarkable haste, growing from a tropical storm with 70 mph winds on Monday evening to a Category 4 hurricane with 140 mph winds 24 hours later."

  3. To spell it out for the #US east coast: Heat lingers more south of Florida where #hurricanes can pick up more power and more moisture, faster, so #RapidIntensification.

As they travel north, that moisture comes down as #ExtremePrecipitation, meaning record #rain.

Meanwhile #StormSurge is whipped up by stronger winds in the hurricane. And gets amplified by the #SeaLevelRise from the slowed ocean current.

Batten down the hatches, East Coast.
