It is the weights for Gemini Nano, Google's on-device LLM. Chrome did not ask. Chrome does not surface it. If the user deletes it, Chrome re-downloads it."

  2. LA Times insisting on "both sides"-ing of the climate crisis in its editorial pages, as they do everything since they decided to kiss up to the oligarchy. Billionaire-owned media apparently all capitulated.

  6. Paywall, but maybe I don't want to read the inspiring story of "sports" and "summer" (ie really, extreme climate driven temperatures and heatwaves).

Under blistering summer temperatures, sports power through (paywall and headline only unless you pay... )

  8. CBC: This atmospheric trend is devastating crops (and no one’s talking about it)

Scientists have coined a new term: thirstwaves. The phenomenon occurs during extended periods of unusually high evaporation — caused not from a lack of rain, but because the air is extra thirsty. Johanna Wagstaffe breaks down how thirstwaves could seriously affect farming and water supplies.

  10. @wdlindsy We must be willing to force our local political leaders and law enforcement to pick sides. Will they be willing to protect and serve or do #trumpliesmatter? #massdeportation is an expensive distraction. It siphons off resources that could be used to addressing real world, immediate needs like crime, #climatemergency response, community health, etc.

  11. Per Jeff Berardelli: "Everything is stuck! That partly explains the 20” of rain along the Carolina Coast and extreme rains and snows in Central Europe. Take a look at the jet stream in the US and Europe. Rex blocks (high over top of low) abound with an extremely wavy jet stream!" #jetstream #ExtremeWeather #disasters #ClimatEmergency

  13. "In numerous interviews with shelter residents, directors and volunteers, Truthout found that class differences underlined the realities at many shelters. Most of the shelter directors and volunteers are middle to upper class. Most of the residents are working class and poor, and now have lost everything to the floods.

“We’re poor, but we don’t need to be treated like we’re in a prison,” Dejanira Ferreira da Cunha, told Truthout in a large shelter in a nearby town. “You don’t have to yell at us to tell us that our food is ready. Just put it on the table and we can pick it up.”"

  14. Climate disasters all over the globe... Meanwhile, in Australia.

*- Australia’s subsidies to fossil fuel producers and major users from all governments totalled $14.5 billion in 2023-24, the equivalent of $27,581 for every minute of every day, or $540 for every person in Australia.*
*- ****2023-24 saw a 31% increase in fossil fuel subsidies**** to $14.5 billion, from the $11.1 billion recorded in 2022-23, driven by large increases to diesel and aviation fuel tax breaks.*
*- Total fossil fuel subsidies over the forward estimates from all governments has reached $65 billion, or 16 times the balance of Australia’s Disaster Ready Fund (as of December 2023).*

  15. We definetly need to move away from starting a common climate change conversation or presentation with

„There’s no doubt anymore that it’s man made because…“

    and move more towards

    „We’re in a climate emergency because…“

Really, most people have understood it’s us. What many don’t know or fail to admit is that it’s indeed a crisis and we need to go into emergency mode.

    Fight climate crisis denial.
