Anyone know how to get rid of this grey box when screensharing a video on zoom?

I'm hosting in webinar mode and it's not visible on my host machine but is there on the feed I'm receiving on another machine.

Kennt wer eine gute Möglichkeit seinen Bildschirm an Freunde zu übertragen wie z.b. bei Discord ganz normal?

TS hat sowas immer noch nicht und ich suche nun nach einer Alternative dafür.

Vielleicht ja sogar self-hosted Varianten. Ich würde gerne auch Freunden die Möglichkeit bieten ihren Screen zu übertragen an mich oder andere, auch wenn ich nicht dabei bin.

Also kein klassisches Teamviewer Ding. Hoffentlich versteht man was ich meine.

@CollaboraOffice #LightMode not neccessarily based on full white, but #OffWhite or #CreamWhite with high contrast colours works well enough. There is way too low contrast with #DarkMode colours especially in #OnlineMeeting #ScreenSharing setting or with projection low resolution or weak light intensity or sligt misalignment, or just very light room environents in general.

Also übrigens, mein Thema von letztens ist jetzt soweit erörtert, dass ich vermutlich für Screensharing* und Videocalls auf Discord ausweichen werde. Gestern mich mit Sohnemann besprochen und wir haben überlegt, dann für Text- und Sprachnachrichten noch bei Matrix zu bleiben. Eventuell werden wir uns da auch auf die Suche nach nem anderen Server machen, auch weil Matrix.org zu groß ist und vermutlich dann unter die Chatkontrolle fallen wird.
Etwas traurig bin ich zwar schon, weil ich Element wirklich sehr gerne als All-in-One Lösung auf dem Laptop benutzt habe, aber so lange die sich weigern, die App auf was anderem als Electron aufzubauen, so lange wird man es nicht für Screensharing nutzen können.
Mit dem Schedule von KDE, in der Plasma 6.6 Version einen neuen Login-Manager bereitzustellen, was vermutlich Mitte kommenden Jahres passieren wird, kann stark vermutet werden, dass dann auch die Möglichkeit wegfällt, eine X11 Session auszuwählen. Tja, und dann möchte ich mein System so weit angepasst haben, dass ich ohne Probleme mit Wayland weitermachen kann. 🤷‍♀️
Also, sorry Element, aber X11 hat einfach keine Zukunft. 🧐

*Screensharing meint hier, den ganzen Bildschirm teilen zu können, was unter Wayland in der Element App zur Zeit nicht möglich ist.

Joa, also, ich hab jetzt zwei alternative Apps ausprobiert, einmal Neochat und einmal Fluffy Chat. Ersterer ist mist, weil der ausser Schreiben und Bilder schicken nix kann. Zweiterer kann zwar experimentell Videocalls und Voicecalls, aber keine Sprachnachrichten.
Mmmpf...
Und, ich hab mich grade bisschen durch die Issues auf github gelesen...das Problem, dass Screensharing in Element unter Wayland nicht geht, ist ja schon JAHREALT. Soll wohl heißen, dass die sich nen feuchten Dreck drum scheren, ob das unter Wayland funktioniert oder nicht? Oder wie muss ich mir das dann denken? Bin grade bissel angepisst...vor allem, weil ich Element auf dem Desktop echt gerne benutzt hab. Aber so kann das nicht bleiben.
Bin kurz davor, zu Discord zu wechseln weil da wenigstens alles funktioniert. 🙄😒😒🙄🫤

Nachdem ich ja demnächst eine weitere Distro mit anderem Desktop testen will, und jetzt 4 Wochen lang Fedora mit Gnome hatte, fiel mir bei den Überlegungen für die neue Distro was auf:
Alle Distros, die mich interessieren, mit den anderen Desktops bevorzugen schon Wayland. Was natürlich irgendwann für die Mehrzahl der Distros so sein wird.
Also brauche ich dann Ersatz für manche Apps, die aktuell nur unter X11 gut laufen. Eine davon ist Element mit Matrix. Hauptsächlich nutze ich das am Laptop für Videocalls mit Sohnemann, und unter anderem da relativ oft Screensharing.
Nun ist die Frage die, ob es für Matrix ne andere App gibt, bei der Videocalls und wichtig, die Screensharing-Funktion unter Wayland funktionieren? Wenn ja, welche App ist das?
Falls das jemand weiß, würd ich mich über ne Empfehlung freuen! 🙏☺️

I've been in situations of giving a lecture or a workshop where there was no screen or projector available, or... No cable. The usual workaround that I've seen friends and colleagues use is to have everyone join jitsi/zoom/bbb/etc and do the screen sharing there. This works but feels like a grotesque variation of the "a multinational corporation's service as the easiest way of copying files between two nearby devices" entry from the crappy everyday tech bingo.

So here is a response with television, a simple binary that takes screenshots of your desktop at regular intervals and serves the result over http on an amazingly well formatted html page that can be accessed by everyone over LAN/WLAN with their browser. It's *not* a video stream, it's really a 1fps style screensharing web thing which is plenty enough for slides, GUI/TUI/CLI action, etc.

When I #teach #musicproduction online, I use #jitsi meet for #screensharing and #video and #sonobus for #highresaudio. How do you teach on #linux? #linuxaudio

@nixCraft it works, but its dependent on the apps who actual implement solutions to allow #screensharing to work properly, such as the official #discord app's screensharing just doesn't work on #Wayland, and you would need to use an alternative client to even start get something functional, but otherwise, it has been working. Your mileage may vary depending on the tool you use

Ideas? I know it prob has something to do w/the screen sharing app's display not being ID 0, but I don't know how to fix it.

Das hat neulich der @rannug entdeckt. Spannend ist, dass mehrere gleichzeitig ihren Bildschirm teilen können und man selber zwischen ihnen switchen kann.
Evtl. auch nützlich bei Schulungen, um bequem Ergebnisse in der Gruppe zu teilen & zu besprechen.
